SBriand 4
Fighting is stupid now. I don't even know the point of it anymore. I see more fights caused by good clean hockey hits than I do for retaliation for a cheap shot. The players coming into this league lack the respect the older players had. Seems to me players are less in control of their sticks because everyone has a visor now. Seems to me that as the protective equipment gets better the less in control the players play. I don't have any statistics to back that up, just a observational opinion I guess.
Zach6668 513
I'll NEVER understand how having Colton Orr dress in 5 games, and play 2:30 per game stops people from running guys. It's not like he jumps over the boards and attacks a guy who hits someone. It's by far the most flawed argument in hockey. It's completely moronic, and it defies logic in every way. Most of these "goons" can't even play competitively in the ECHL, they are the biggest waste of money and a roster spot ever.I think Serge's guess of 80% of fights being staged is probably high. I don't want to get rid of fighting, but these "goons" who play 2 minutes and just fight the other team's goon are completely pointless. Those fights will be gone soon because these guys are losing their jobs very quickly.I'm all for fighting in the NHL, just not the staged fighting. Give me a guy like Deryk Engelland who is a pretty good defenseman, but also a solid heavyweight who could fight anyone, if necessary. And he plays a very very competent 17 minutes per game!Get Steve MacIntyre out of the NHL. He has dressed in NINE of the 38 games, playing an average of 2:31 per game. That's 22:39 total. TOTAL. I think it's important to keep fighting in the NHL, and I could go either way on the instigator, I don't really understand that rule, or the impact of it.

Zach6668 513
Stamkos is on pace for 58.9 goals. Can we see him hit 60? Ovechkin was the last one with 65 4 or 5 years ago.
Dubey 1,035
If Stamkos can avoid another extended cold streak, he could very well hit 65.

If they can't agree on this relatively simple matter then...break out the Harrington on Hold 'Em books.I'm taking this as a really bad sign. I'm already seeing all the classic rhetoric and bs. Could they really be so stupid as to lose games so soon after 2004? Unfortunately, I think I know the answer to this.

MapleLeafpoker 1,462
I'm against fighting in hockey. Especially the obvious staged ones, or the fights with guys who only fight. And I think I saw on twitter earlier that jimmy devellano of red wings fame says it's time to consider eliminating fighting. All that said.....I was just watching Philly-Ottawa, and Danny Briere fought against Turris. I really didn't mind that at all.

If we can get rid of the fights that happen after a solid bodycheck then that will be great. I'm okay with two guys going at it if both are willing and there's a legitimate reason for it. MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Hate the fights after clean good hits too. Instead of staged, I should use the word premeditated. I dont like fights that are almost planned, or based on"code". I like to see fights if they happen naturally, through the course of hockey events. I don't know I that makes any sense.
