pauld22 0
Kronwall left his feet, but I'm ok with it considering who he hit.I never played, I was never taught how to make a check, so I could be way off here, but who in the hell turns their back to make a hit? Be a man*, lower your shoulder into his chest, and light up his world. *I know, easy for me to say.....

pauld22 0
Old school hip check (sort of). I don't think it has anything to do with toughness.Yeah, I guess I went a bit far with the "man up" thing. Big, fast, tough game....it just seems hitting the way he did was an "easier" way to hit him.I remember an old school hip check where the hitter sticks his big rump into the player...sometimes to a nice cartwheel effect. Looked like he was winding up this way then turned his back to absorb the hit with a larger part of his body.Kind of like a defensive back in football "rolling" down to a ball carriers legs rather than form tackling with the shoulder into the body/wrapping up the legs. serge 904
Something i was thinking about..Why does the 4th line of a hockey team HAVE to be "defensive minded" players..Why cant they be good players that play good defense??Does defensive minded mean you basically suck on offense so you have to play on the 4th line?I really think Phillip Dupuis is a useless player that doesnt have any value to the Leafs and should leave immediately.
Zach6668 513
It doesn't HAVE to be.It used to be like the 3rd line was the defensive shutdown line, with the 4th line being energy grinders that play 5 mins a game, and a bit of PK. It seems to be trending towards 3 balanced scoring lines (think healthy Pittsburgh, Philly, San Jose, even Toronto when healthy).I dunno, I like the way the Pens, for example, are built on the 4th line. It'll usually be guys like Adams (defensive/PK specialist), Asham (energy guy, can fight, but not a goon, can jump up to 2nd or 3rd line for a shift or two if they need some energy and/or toughness), and when healthy, a guy like Park or Vitale, who are defensive/pk guys, who can be energy guys (in the case of Vitale, anyways). The thing for me, is these guys are all valuable in more than one way. They can move up and down the lineup for a shift here, a shift there with the top lines, if need be. Bylsma mixes his lines a lot during games to keep the other team guessing, so it helps if these 4th liners are very versatile. It also does help to keep PK guys there, so guys like Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Kunitz, etc don't have to risk injury by blocking shots on the PK, and they get to spend a greater portion of their ice time in offensive/even strength/PP situations where they are better suited to help the team.I'd be happy to see Steve MacIntyre never play again. I hate wasting a 4th line spot on a guy like him.I don't know much about Ph. Dupuis, but I just assume he sucks (since I know nothing about him).
serge 904
Things tend to even out in hockey, life and poker...So having said that, look for the Florida Panthers to go into a pretty huge slump...BTW I honestly wanted to post this before the 8-0 white washing. Zach6668 513
On my ideal hockey team, the value of the 4th line is versatility and the ability to create energy for the other lines. A solid 45-second shift of cycling the puck down low for the 4th line is really good for a team. The Pens 4th line does it all the time, and then the Malkin line comes out against tired defenders and get a chance to go to town. Really shows how much of a team game hockey really is. serge 904
Sure that makes sense..But why cant they score a goal instead of creating energy? When your 4th line scores a goal there is nothing better than that energy...Im just looking at the Leafs example..4th line players are guys like Steckel, Dupuis, Orr, Rosehill(the two tough guys havent played much)..Steckel has SOME offensive pop..Why not bring up skilled young guys instead of losers like Dupuis and goons like Orr..Those guys are hungry, they want to play hard and with energy...Dupuis is garbage eating piece of crap. Zach6668 513
Who said they can't score? I mean, it's still the NHL, you're not going to be able to find 12 forwards who are snipers. When they score on that good shift they have, it's even better.I'd rather have my 4th line than young, inexperienced, "skilled" guys, who are only one-dimensional. You need guys like Craig Adams, Max Talbot, etc. I agree on Orr, I wish those idiots would never play again, huge waste of space. The Pens seem to only play MacIntyre when they need to due to injuries. Ie, he played in Ottawa, but not vs rival Philly.Steckel's a good example of a solid 4th liner that I'd like to have. dEv~ 19
Why not bring up skilled young guys instead of losers like Dupuis and goons like Orr..Wouldn't you rather see the young guys get 20 ahl minutes to develop instead of 5-10 nhl minutes? Just like in baseball. iIf you aren't going to be a regular starter is it worth having a promising prospect be a pinch hitter?
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
imo, a good 4th line brings energy, hitting and defensive awareness to the game, and is good in quick bursts. Ideally, a great cycle game would be even better.its not like your looking for guys who cant score, but like Zach said, I dont want a Kadri/Semin type on my 4th line, loafing thru the game just for the occasional, once every 3 games goal. Also, some veteran presence, guys good in the room if you need it, would be a good use of a 4th line.I always liked lines like Berg-Zezel-Osborne (4th that became a 3rd, that nearly became a 2nd) or Moen-Pahllson-Brown? (i cant recall the 3rd guy in the Anaheim line that year, loved that line)I also like the idea of your 4th line tiring out the opposition D.

Ottawa_Biatch 288
James is the best 4th line energy player. You missed it last game.*******We got a penalty. James has played with us 2 seasons now and you think he would know the rule that you can't change during the whistle when you are on the PK. James tries to come off during the whistle... James then decides to stay on the ice for 2 minutes after the puck drop even though he just tried to come off. We get another penalty like 6 minutes later and again James tries to get off during the whistle. He then stays on the ice for 5 minutes after the whistle goes, lol, even though he had multiple chances to come off. ********Conversation on the bench.Me: I shouldn't have ate that cheeseburger before the game, that was a bad idea.Jon: It was your idea to get McDonalds before the gameMe: You should know better. I'm probably going to throw up. James: Guys!!! We need to work on our interceptions!!!!!Me: Sound good man.(James goes on the ice)Me and Jon: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
