This doesn't belong here but I am going to rant anyway. People are idiots. Especially when it comes to sports and their fav teams. All week on the local sports radio shows the main discussion is, getting rid of Matthew Stafford, or benching Stafford, or saying that Stafford is a poor QB or todays word of the day was, he is serviceable. I don't get it. Why do people seem to LOOK for things to whine about.Keep this in mind.Stafford is 6th in the league in Passer Rating. 4th in the NFC.Stafford is 7th in the league in Pass Percentage, 4th in the NFC.Stafford is 5th in Pass Yards in the league and again 4th in the NFC.He is 5th in yards per game int he league and 4th in the NFC.4th in the league in passing TD's and 3rd in the NFC.4145 pass yards, 62.7% 33TD 14INTAnd people are complaining that he sucks. He holds the record for most Passing TD's by a Detroit Lions QB. He is 193 yards away from taking over the top spot in Lions history on passing yards.Holds the record for most passing TD's in one game. He did it twice.16 completions away from the Lions completions in one season record. And if he continues to play no better from this point on he will most likely hold the best passer rating career for a Lion and could easily break the single season record this year.I think my point is that in most sports markets, the people who make the most noise would never ever be satisfied. I am not saying the Stafford is elite but people should be happy that we have a QB in this town that is better than "serviceable."/rant
It's all about filling up programming. They have to make stuff up solely for ratings. Talk radio and ESPN have become experts at it

Talk radio
I've noticed this more and more with talk radio...no matter how controversial or clear-cut an issue is, one of the hosts or personalities on the show will be on the opposite side of it to keep the discussion going.

Talk radio blows in general. I've started just listening to podcasts that I like. None of which are Pens-related. Hockeycentral @ Noon (M-F, Noon on Sportsnet, posts to iTunes almost immediately after it airs, sans commercials)Marek Vs Wyshynski (M-F, usually posts to iTunes around 4-5 pm, think it streams live at 2)Backhand Shelf Podcast (M, W, F, posts to iTunes mid afternoon)They're pretty mainstream, obviously, but talk about everything going on in hockey and other funny tangents. All of the hosts are great.

The trouble is, the show hosts, all 4 of them, don't agree with any of what I posted. It's the callers. Both main shows are open phone lines. You call in with anything you want. They bring up suggestions and try to get a conversation going but you maybe get 1 or 2 out of 5 callers that stick to that conversation and then 3 of them call to ask for Staffords head. Yesterday was supposed to be talk about the Pistons and people kept calling in to rag on Stafford.

Why would anyone listen to a radio show where random idiots call in and fill all the airtime?Surely there must be other options for you, Steve?
I listen to sports talk a lot of my day at work. Music gets old after a while. They don't just have random callers, they do sports news, recorded post game interveiws, have experts/writers/reporters call in, and have the athletes on too.

That's what I mean. Surely you can find a radio show or a podcast that you can listen to where you respect the people giving their opinions, agree with them or not.I mean, it's nearly 2012, you aren't stuck with whatever happens to be on the radio anymore. There's a hundred hockey podcasts to choose from that you can listen to at any time.

The problem with that is that I'm at work. If I play a podcast that I really want to listen to, I don't get work done. I like the radio in my office because I can tune it out for minutes or hours and get shit done. I hear random tidbits but mostly just don't listen to it when I'm real busy.

Well it's not crap everyday. And the Drive Home guys do a good job of letting each idiot know they are idiots so that can be entertaining. But I would say that out of my 7 hour commute a week, 3 of it is listening to them and the rest is music on my iPod. During basketball season it probably is 6 hours of iPod.

Pretty much every radio show in the country is also available as a podcast.1 You don't need to listen to the local crap, you can pick and choose the best shows. *cough*LeBatard*cough*1I just made that up, but it might be true.
