I went looking in the team stats on Yahoo about a month ago for evidence that the Penguins never get called for anything...imagine my surprise when I learned that they were the most heavily penalized team in the league (at the time, I don't know if they still are or not). Granted...that was about a week after the Pens-Islanders fiasco...but still.

I see interference get called almost every game against the Wings. Yes, the Wings do get called for penalties.
Lies!I do think the Wings get favourable reffing, but that comes with the territory of being so good. With the canucks, I don't know if I am just being biased because I don't like them, but It seems like they dive, a LOT, and get away with it.

Even with all of the majors and misconducts in that game, they're actually 1st in the league in minor penalties. They're also 2nd in total PIMs, behind the Islanders, 2nd in total majors, behind St. Louis.

I agree they take the odd call, but shocked that it includes interference penalties! :ts
4 times in the last 3 games even! lol

I said it before in the Pens thread. When your team gets as awesome and great as we are then you to will get the calls to go your way. Till then, quit yer bitchin'!:club:

I think part of the flack Detroit gets regarding penalties is Datsyuk's fault. He is amazing defensively with his positioning and stickwork and knows just how much he can get away with. Because of this, I think he may get the benefit of the doubt more often.

Nice shutout. Do we think there's a chance the Oilers will try to move Khahbi this offseason? Would anyone take him? Hasnt DD proven he is worthy of being #1 next year?
Never thought of this before, but isn't it ironic that Khabibulin gets into a DUI problem and the Oilers go to a DD?

haha, nice.I think the Oilers would trade Khabbi if they could, just to unload a contract, but I doubt there is much of a market for him right now. They don't have any goaltending depth though, so if they traded him, they'd need to go sign another guy anyway.

By the book, yes. By the precedent set in recent years in the NHL, no. You see guys hitting each other all the time about 10 feet before they reach the puck, when it's loose, and they're kinda neck in neck both heading for it. It bugs me a bit (mostly because that's the reason the Pens lost Malkin for the season), but I think in the long run, it probably helps save more injuries than it causes, since it slows down guys forechecking on what would be prone defensemen. Since you're not allowed to hold a guy up once he chips the puck into the zone, I'm ok with allowing this a little bit to protect the d-men.
I was under the impression that as long as you hold your ice, it's fine to shoulder the opponent when racing for the puck. At least, that's what i assume when i saw Phaneuf push Plekanec down when he attempted to pass by him when they were both racing for the puck. It made sense to me.

The Pens are an US team that barely survived. The Nucks are a canadian team that doesnt need much success to shovel cash. This is the only conspiracy theory i am willing to get behind.

Ovechkin finally caught up with Crosby tonight in goals at 32. Friday Crosby will miss his 40th straight game Friday night.

Stamkos only has 6 goals since February 1st...where did he go? I'm wondering if we're going to find out he's been playing hurt for a while now when TB gets eliminated.

Torres got 4 games. I think that's pretty fair, and quite in line with the 5-6 I was hoping for, since 2 are playoff games, and historically have counted as 2x regular season games.

Seems fair to me.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I think that was excessive. It looks bad because he has his elbow out before the hit, but he pulls it in. It's definitely interference and dangerous, worthy of a game or two since he has a responsibility to not hit anyone defenseless, but I don't see any intent to go for the head, or otherwise do serious damage there.

It doesn't matter if he hit him with his elbow, his shoulder, or even his knee. It was a headshot, from the blind side, on a vulnerable player. This is what the NHL, and all of us want out of the game. We don't want guys like Eberle, Crosby, Green, etc getting their careers cut short because people took liberties with them and took their heads off. IMO, intent shouldn't matter either. I mean, people don't intend to high stick anyone, but they still get automatic penalties. Why should this be different? It's significantly more dangerous...

I agree with the 4 games here and if this is 4 games than Bertuzzi should have seen maybe 2 3 or even 4 for his hit.Consistency by the league is atrocious, imo.

I agree with all above. 4 games (really six games if you go by the 2-1 for a playoff game theory) is right for this hit. And I agree Bertuzzi should have gotten a couple...
