I think the playoffs should be determined by a voting system like in skating...The teams that are outside looking in are playing much better than teams like the Penguins and Rangers...Leafs, Devils and Sabres deserve to get in the playoffs...Who cares who won games in October and November...It should be based on who is the best team now..***preceding post was semi tongue in cheek.

Taking Jin to his first NHL game Sunday. Seats close to the glass and I get to see McDavid. Probably the last game I see at The Joe.

Lucky he'll be back for the Islanders playoff push. They'd be lost without him..
Someone made the joke on Twitter that instead of suspending him, they should make him play 15 minutes a game. That'd hurt the Isles the most. LOL.

Such a joke. Good work NHL. 9 games didn't get the message across, let's try 10.
As much as I think he shouldn't be in the leauge 2 years ago he doesn't get suspended at all for his latest hit.Not that I think the Islanders are anything but a horrible organization but if the Islanders play him in an NHL game after his suspension they will drop down even lower in my books.

You're probably right, but with everything we're learning about concussions now, and the NHL already pretending to take a stand against head hits, they SHOULD be doing it with this kind of crap.

Totally agree. He's just a total meathead who has no business in the game.

Here is my take on the suspension:The first hit was much worse and the following taunting was just stupid..He got 9 games. The second hit was bad, but not as bad as the first................................He got 10 games.Did he get 10 games for the hit, or the fact that it was so soon after his other suspension?

If the average NHL player who doesn't have a history of being a meathead does the 2nd hit he might not have even been suspended and if he was it would only be for a couple games. The 10 games are totally because it was Gillies and how soon after his first suspension.

The first 6 views I had on the Gilles hit really did not look so bad. Only when I just saw a real closeup on it could you see him going for the head. The angle and arm motion is the exact same as on the Tangradi hit. If he just makes that hit in a normal situation, that's one game. I'm actually just glad he hit someone so soon, and a concrete wall like Clutterbuck so no one would get hurt, and it had to be patently obvious he needs a real lesson. I think if he even waits a game before doing that, they can't suspend him more than 5 or so.

Really? Even if it was shoulder on shoulder, he took a run at someone who was nowhere near the puck.

How could the Florida Panthers possibly waive Grabner?
Because they are the Florida Panthers.

My point was that wouldn't usually be 10 games. Most players do the same thing, don't injure someone, don't get anywhere close to 10 games. I think Bob's guess of 3-4 is maybe even generous, more like 2-3.

You say most players do the same thing, but can you think of an instance of a player taking a run at someone who never touched the puck? It doesn't happen that often, and when it does it is a pretty big deal.

I agree it happens rarely, which is why it is hard to cite precedent.God, the way Gillies stands for a second after the hit is really sick. I don't know if he's shocked at his own actions or just a violent person. Given his comments after, you have to assume it is the second. The fact that the NHL does not have a program in place to mandate counselling for situations like this is bad. There should be some determination of 'intent to injure'. Any player guilty of it gets suspended at least, say, 5 games. More importantly though, anyone who is suspended under that heading has to follow a program. Maybe the first time it is recommended counselling, but after the second or third times it escalates, and perhaps the player has to complete some type of counselling before they're allowed back on the ice.Seems like the NHLPA wouldn't raise too much of a fuss if they were given some control over the counselling process.

What does being a good guy have to do with anything?
