ajs510 122
No backup goalie for Phoenix tonight, Jason Labarbera was injured during warmups and was taken to the hospital. They just announced that in the event of an injury to Bryzgalov the emergency goalie would be Paul Bissonnette. Not sure how they would do that since he's not in the lineup, I would think they could only go with guys who were in the starting lineup.

There's a strange twist that says anyone who has NEVER played in the NHL can be signed to an emergency amateur contract, but any player with NHL experience must go through a 24 hour waiver period. So basically any bum from the street can fill in if one or both goalies get injured, but not a real player... .LOL
Fenxis 99
"Chris Phillips has agreed to a 3 year extension with the club. Will pay him $3.1 mil a season. (Includes no move clause.)"Ridiculous use of a NMC on an overpaid player.

Fenxis 99
3.1 seems really fair, or has he sucked the last few years and I haven't noticed? If he has the puck while under pressure he invariably either a. makes a first pass to the opposition or b. holds the puck along the boards until he gets wiped out. He's savvy enough to not make epic blunders (like Karlsson does) and while the team does a core during the rebuild (to avoid falling into a pit like the Islanders), the combination of money, term, and NMC is surprising. Team is totally handcuffed he doesn't re-find his motivation and now BM will be forced to make a bad trade on Kuba/Lee/Campoli.

And if Phillips does keep on sucking the only thing that can be done is buy him out (since the NMC prevents him from being Reddened/Sourayed/Commodored).In the Tweet-osphere opinion ranges from "lets see in 18-months" to "huh"?@tsnscottcullen: I don't get Phillips signing. Possible he'd get more $$ as FA, but what team would give him no-trade after a season in which he's -26?@SensReporter: Can't say I understand the Phillips signing on any level.@SensTown: Love Love Love getting tweets and emails from fans waking up now to news of Phillips deal and no one getting why we gave him that deal + nmc@SensTown: God it's balls knowing someone your grandpa's age is deciding your teams next few years - I don't even let mine microwave
ajs510 122
Weren't they planning on moving Kuba anyway? The only part I really hate about the Phillips signing is the NMC...the money is good for a veteran defenseman with size and let's face facts, he's a big minus on the season because he plays a lot of minutes and the Senators are perfectly horrible this year...Ryan Shannon is the only regular on the entire team who has a plus rating and among defensemen Kuba and Karlsson have even worse ratings than Phillips does. That gets his salary off the books.

If they get paid, it's a PTO, and there are lots more rules involved. If i remember correctly, I think the league actually wrote in a sub-clause saying they can keep their jerseys as compensation.....

If i remember correctly, I think the league actually wrote in a sub-clause saying they can keep their jerseys as compensation.....I don't know how it works in the Canadian college ranks, but NCAA players aren't even allowed to attend formal rookie or training camps unless they pay their own way, in order to keep their amateur status. I can't imagine an NCAA goalie would be able to participate in any fashion in an NHL game unless he was donating his time/efforts...I'm pretty sure even accepting a free jersey would be a violation.
