I just don't enjoy watching basketball except for actually being there or watching the NCAA tourney. But I do believe they have talent. Just not a sport I could ever get into and I have been around for 3 Championships and I don't think I watched much of it. I paid attention to it but not like I do with hockey.Now I will get huffy about people who think soccer is a sport that lacks ability or talent. But I have played since I was 5 so I have some bias. It's not an easy sport. I love people who think it is then you put a ball at their foot and they have no idea what to do with it or go around kicking with their toe.

I have the same argument with a group of buddies who insist that Soccer takes a lot of skill and talent as opposed to the other majors..Any 3 year old can play soccer...Anyone can kick a ball and run..Yes its some skill but its not like hitting a 100 mph fastball, hitting a round disc with a stick while balancing on tiny blades etc...

But not any kid can head a ball from a corner kick. When I played when I was about 8, our coach promised is us pizza if we ever scored a goal by heading the ball in and we never did. Soccer is probably he most difficult sport because, except for goalies, you can grab the ball with your hands. It's not human nature to do something with your feet and not your hands.

Yes its not the easiest thing, but the sheer skill it takes to skate and play hockey is something most of the population cant even come close too..Hitting a baseball is impossible for most of the population..However any able bodied person can play soccer.And the whole wining thing when they get a boo boo is a bit over the top..

Any able bodied person can play any sport, although maybe not play it WELL. Anybody can hit a baseball, just not if it's coming at 95 mph. Anybody can run and kick a ball, just not if they have a member of the Brazilian national team controlling it at the time. Anybody can skate and hold a hockey stick, just not if they have Kronwall trying to take their head off. You can't compare being able to handle the basic mechanics of soccer to being able to hit a major league pitch. Now if you want to compare the level of skill it takes to play on the top end of both sports, well then that's a way more valid debate.And I totally agree with the whole boo boo thing. I play and coach soccer, and it aggravates me to see that crap.

You are correct..BTW my son just started playing..Its so fun to watch these kids..5 year olds playing soccer is the bomb.

OK this is a poker/hockey post for you all.I was down at the casino on Friday night playing a little 1/2 No Limit with two friends from work at the table with me. A guy arrives at our table wearing his Flyers shirt. My buddy comments on the jersey and buddy turns out to be a real dickhead. Asking my buddy to step out side when he commented on the finals saying that the Flyers should be happy just making it that far. A couple hands later I'm on the button and look down at AA. Flyer fan is in early position and raised then the guy beside him pushes all in for about $120. I instantly call his all in as I have him well covered. Flyers fan starts thinking about calling so after a few minutes of waiting for him I comment loudly to my buddy across the table that I think the Flyers will get swept or if they are lucky win one game. Flyers fan immediately goes all in and I call for another $50. My aces won for a nice near tripple up.

Coaching first soccer game tonight. The girlfriend/commonlawwife and I volunteered to coach two team this year. A U-6 team with my son and one of her sons and a U-4 team with her daughter and one of my daughters. Should be fun!

My strategy is to use the first few games to weed out the weaker players. Then I'll play the stronger players for the majority of the time and alternate a weaker player in there every now and then. We're allowed one coach on the playing field so I'm gonna run around and keep them hustling whether they like it or not. First one who cries or complains about anything will be used as an example and prohibited from partaking in the Mr. Freezie halftime ceremonies.Seriously though...we have two goals.1. Have fun. I want the kids to have a good time and enjoy coming to soccer and socializing with other kids.^^^^^^^^^2. I'd like to introduce them to kicking with the inside of their feet or their instep.

My son's team is U-5....The kids have a blast..I have been trying to show my son how to kick with the inside of his feet, he doesnt like it yet..The main thing to teach them is spread out and not 6 guys on the ball....But it cant be avoided..Its really fun thing to watch..Cant wait till tomorrow..We play Italy next...First game we lost 5-3...We were up 3-2 until we changed our goalie and he gave up 3 soft ones...

My daughter's U-5 team is brutal. Coach just stands around and smiles. Also my daughter took a ball off the face when she was in net.My son's U-12 team played an all girl's team (they let them in the league). These girls are a select team and they got smoked (my son's team). They put my son in net and 1 Dad said "tell my son I am in car, I can't take this anymore". It was quite funny.
