SBriand 4
Anytime there's a doubleheader on VS it's going to be Eastern Conference for the early game, Western Conference for the late game (for obvious reasons). There's usually one doubleheader per week during the regular season, and it's been every night for the first round of the playoffs, seems like. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if ESPN got back into the hockey game for 3-4 HD games per week, but I just don't see it happening. Have to embrace the alternatives or cheat and watch the games online whenever possible.I was not getting a vs doubleheader once a week. I can only think of 3 maybe 4 doubleheaders all season.Playoffs are fine. Like I can watch Pens/Ott and then the last half of Chi/Nash/ and the last third of Col/SJ.Do u sense any sarcasm? lol I am grateful for that but I remember the good ol days laying in my room flipping all night between CBC/ESPN/ESPN2 during the playoffs. Might just feel that way because I'd watch the Sabres game and then a late Western Conference game on VS...I have no idea. I dunno, I have Center Ice and like I said, I barely use it. I have a feeling being a married dude that it would be the same for you. You want the ability to watch all those games you're not getting, but if you had it, you'd be off doing laundry or dishes or watching Grey's Anatomy with the wife instead of flipping channels endlessly between hockey games just like the rest of us married saps, because we're not 25 anymore like we were in the days of hockey on ESPN. Zach6668 513
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_th...ates_televisionSo from 92-94, ESPN had Sunday, Wednesday, Friday hockey coverage (doesn't state one game or double header, but I'd guess just one), and then ABC had 6 games all season on Sunday's in March. In 1995, Fox joined and added 5-11 games per year.Looks like 2000-2004 was probably the best time for the US viewer, with ABC, ESPN, and ESPN2 doing games. NHL2Night was running, and I guess ESPN2 showed a bunch of games, but it doesn't say.Looks like there was a 4-5 year period where coverage was noticeably better than it is now in the USA.Other than that, coverage has been pretty consistent since the 80s (disregarding that VS isn't available to all homes yet). SBriand 4
Beginning in 1993–94, up to five games per week were also shown on ESPN2.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESPN_National_Hockey_Night

I guess I have control of my TV whenever I want, I usually just ask Andrea and she lets me watch hockey, lol. But if she didn't, I can watch it in the office.I hope that doesn't change when I actually get married!!!

Up to 5 could mean 0 from 1992-2000, lol.I'll trust you though, I obviously never had American TV in those days.I remember watching NHL on Fox, and I remember some sort of ESPN2 NHL, but that could have just been video game graphics. In the interest of basic fairness, if she's home and there are shows she wants to watch, I give up the remote and make her happy. If there's a Sabres game on, whatever Casey wants to watch gets back-burnered to the DVR until the game is over...I'm fairly certain I made that part of our wedding vows. It's the tradeoff for me not spending the weekends watching football, which she hates. I keep meaning to have cable hooked up in my den so I can watch games there when her shows that I hate are on (90210, Private Practice, One Tree Hill) but I'm too lazy to call the cable company to come out and do a proper install. Being able to watch games on my laptop while she watches TV makes that laziness that much easier.*Edit* Oh, and trust me...lots of things will change that you never expected when you put the ring on. Trust me and every other married guy you know.

Zach6668 513
Yeah, I guess it helps that Andrea doesn't watch a lot of tv as it is, so it's usually just sitting there turned off. There's maybe like once a month where I want to watch a game or a movie or something and I ask her to gtfo. Trust me and every other married guy you know.We have a small 19" upstairs with basic cable and if there is something she really wants to watch she volunteers to watch it up there. If not, then yes it gets DVR'ed and she sits on the couch and surfs the internet and watches the games. Luckily she likes football so she watches games with me on Sunday's. And luckily there really isn't any show we both don't watch. Zach6668 513
Yeah, we don't really have shows we watch together, except Jeopardy, and obv it doesn't need to be every day.She works shift work, so nobody knows when she'll actually be home, so without a DVR, it's impossible to watch a show every week or whatever. Now that we got a DVR, I'm sure she'll find some shows to record. I accidently stumbled upon the last half of the 'girls vs. suits' episode and nearly killed myself laughing at the full broadway-esque musical number about suits. It's been on my PVR ever since, plus I've got 5 seasons of back episodes to watch. I had always passed it off as a lame laugh-track sitcom and never actually watched an episode. Zach6668 513
I don't understand New Jersey.Every year they seem to surprise me twice. At the start of the regular season, I always think they're done, this is the year they fall down the standings. They surprise me for the first time by winning the division year after year. Then at the start of the playoffs I think, wow, NJ was awesome this year, they're one of the top teams to beat out of the East. Naturally, they get destroyed by a team that barely even backed into the playoffs. Surprise #2.

I actually thought they were due for an upset this year going into the playoffs, but once they matched up against Boucher, I thought Id be wrong.Classic example of playoff hockey showing anyone can beat anyone. MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Oh, and for those of you with tv issues, just buy another freakin tv!!! I always get the big screen, and wife takes the smaller set upstairs, just cause she doesnt really care if Americas Best Dance Crew is on HD.Plus, she doesnt watch a lot of tv, and many nights im out playing sports, which allows her to catch up on the DVR.ng My pet peeve? She doesnt watch her shows on HD! She'll just go to basic cable, not caring the picture is 100x better on HD. You would think I could care less, but I just dont understand, so it tilts me.And Adam's bang on about marriage, and the "change".

Babying 613
From one of the married guys. My wife does the same thing. She watches regular digital TV and not HD. I can't understand it myself.
ajs510 122
OMG my wife and I have had this conversation more times than I can count. We PAY for goddamn HD, it's a million times better than SD...PUT ON THE HD!Yeah, but HD takes up a ton more space on the DVR than regular signal...so I have no problem with her DVRing her shows on the regular channels. Especially since she tapes stuff and then doesn't watch it for months. I *do* however have a problem with her taping a cooking show on regular-def, and the same cooking show in the SAME TIME SLOT on the HD channel as well. <grin> As for the second TV, we have one in the bedroom and she tapes a bunch of her shows on that one as well, but prefers the 55" in the living room (which I can understand). Zach6668 513
Andrea used to watch non-HD stuff before too. Apparently it takes women months and months to figure out how to read a guide and to remember what channels we have in HD.I agree with Arp's situation on all counts, sounds like Andrea and I as well, except Andrea's out at night often, working or night classes, so I usually don't have to even make it a big deal for the TV.Also, our only other TV is in my office (cuz I'm a dick and stole it from the bedroom, although she never used it in there), so I do watch some TV in here, usually non-Penguins games and other TV while I'm pokering or doing other computer stuff.During Penguins games, she wants to watch them as much as me, so that works out. runthemover 39
I'm surprised Sduck is not a Damages guyI want my hockey for free (next year I'll probably get nhl online or at least half the season so I can see playoff games I want). I don't have to pay the NBA to watch all their playoff games. Get them all on Versus and USA or something. Yes I'd prefer ESPN but is it that hard to get every game on TV? I could be wrong about the NBA but I'm pretty sure they are all on TV.Also, Versus is way better than when it first started and I think most everyone has it now so it's not a horrid option. Just stop the freaking stacked games. I understand some games start at 730 and some at 830 and some at 1030. DON'T ****ING PUT THEM ALL ON THE SAME NIGHT RETARDS. I know my logic is horrible here since there's only one channel and the 830 game would mean that could be the only game on one night but what really peeves me is that every single Sharks game has only shown the third period (yes and OT). I can't remember but I think this might be the same for LA/Vancouver. Seriously? Some nights just do the two games. Shouldn't Saturday and Sunday NEVER have games on at the same time? 1230 330 630 930. On Sunday you could even do 1030 130 430 730. You could even do that on just the one hockey channel we've got.
