serge 904
I think the biggest travesty in all of sports is that the Detroit Red Wings are a western conference team..

Babying 613
I am not sure what it is this year. For some reason all the series has peaked my interest. I even stay up to watch the late games. Unfortunately it is making me drink more coffee than what I am use to.Also as a Leafs fan, I can watch the games with no bias (unless Ottawa/Montrea/Buffalo) are playing. JoeyJoJo 18
From Bill Simmons twitter:ESPN has wanted it back for 2 yrs. It's Bettman that won't do it. RT @mission1619: When you take over ESPN, make sure you get the NHL back. I don't know if this is inside information, common knowledge, or just guessing. If it's true, Bettman really needs to be fired. I mean, he needs to be fired anyway; maybe a class-action lawsuit against him on behalf of American hockey fans.Or is it just me? He has slowly killed the NHL but I don't see him leaving anytime soon.
Zach6668 513
It's not just about putting it on ESPN, it's getting it on ESPN and having it played in time slots and nights that will generate growth. I don't know the details, but I'm sure there's a lot more to this story than just getting on ESPN, yes or no. Obviously Bettman thinks he can grow the sport more on Versus/NBC than on ESPN, and since he's definitely more of an expert on the subject than I am, I choose to trust him with that one. SBriand 4
Personally I want it back on ESPN if not for the playoffs. I want to have the option to watch every game and when ESPN was around I could do that for the most part.I have yet to see any of the Wash/Mtl series. Why? Because I get two hockey channels, CBC and VS and they always show the same damn game. So fucking pointless. Before I had CBC, ESPN, and ESPN2 and you knew that ESPN would not be showing the same on both channels so last night instead of having the choice between Bruins/Sabres and Bruins/Sabres I would get to see Wash/Mtl. I think game one was the only one I was able to watch and I can say that the Philly/NJ series has not been show at all.I know it will get better as the rounds go due to less games but even next series I may miss out on an entire series. That annoys me to the point of almost not bothering. At least I have Detroit games to watch I guess but I do enjoy watching other series. No offense to Ray and Adam but I have had little interest in the series, mainly due to the fact that I find the Bruins hard to watch and enjoy for some reason, but at least when ESPN was around you had choices or you flipped between games all night long. bdc30 0
and since he's definitely more of an expert on the subject than I am, I choose to trust him with that one.Really? The same guy who keeps the league out of cities like Hamilton, yet keeps teams in Phoenix, Nashville, Atlanta, Carolina, etc etc etc??I hate what he's done to hockey. The same guy who keeps the league out of cities like Hamilton, yet keeps teams in Phoenix, Nashville, Atlanta, Carolina, etc etc etc??I hate what he's done to hockey.Eh, I think he gets a really bad rap, mostly undeserved. Some criticisms are deserved, of course, but overall, I think it's mostly just uninformed fans whining about how hockey doesn't belong in the sunbelt and shit like that.Look at what he's done with the game since the early 2000s. He fixed something that was really broken, the trap era, etc, and turned it into arguably the most exciting era we've ever had in hockey.

SBriand 4
And yet no casual fan will ever know about it because they can't find the games on TV.Well that was what I was trying to say just now but in my usual long windedness. I gave up and saw this.In Canada maybe everything is okeydokey but as an American fan of the game, it has only gotten worse here imo. I watched a lot more hockey in the ESPN days than I do now. A ton more. Now I am stuck watching whatever vs decides to show me which is usually Pitt or Wash three nights a week at 7pm. I remember watching many a double header on ESPN and you would get all sorts of a matchups.
Zach6668 513
I don't know why I'm supposed to care about the casual fan, though.
SBriand 4
NHL needs casual fans to up their ratings. The higher their ratings then the more NHL games I get to see as a die hard fan.Again I think if I lived in Canada and had access to whatever channels you all get, what Vs, TSN TSN2 TSN 8 etc I wouldn't see an issue. I am sort of lucky to be near Canada so I get CBC and always have even before cable. But other places only get their local games on their FSN channel and then whatever 3 games VS gives them each week. Can someone here confirm to me that lives in Canada whether or not last night you were able to watch any of the games?Again all I got was Bruins/Sabres.

Zach6668 513
Because that's how you grow the league, which is what you said he knows about. That's fair, but I have no problem with the status quo in terms of growth size.I agree with you guys, tbh, about how having it on ESPN seems like it would improve the situation, but I don't know enough to actually know how or why.If ESPN is offering the same distribution as VS/NBC, he'd have gone with them.
