Expect alot, i mean alootttt of limping. Many people who are below average players of omaha hi/lo play very tight live and in tourneys like this. Expect alot of people to chase any sort of low draw, make sure you get value out of your huge hands and lose the minimum on mediocre hands. I usually start raising alot mroe at the higher blind levels, but every tourney is different

30 min levels is pretty awesome for a live tourney. not much different from regular O8 play, except that as the blinds get higher you have to see who's blinds you can steal. also hands like A3 and 23 (with help) going up in value to isolate, steal the button, and steal the blinds. (assuming a standard tight table at that point)and you'll have to be VERY careful not to bleed chips if someone calls one of your steals.

Actually 30 minute levels is at the short end for a live tourney - the playability will depend a lot on the blind structure.Just start off playing solid but aggressive and you will probably be in the top 10% by the end of level 4-5 (Remember that there are not many hands without an ace that are worth playing. After that you will need to pick your spots and go for the big hands. When you find yourself with 10 Big Bets (20 Big Blinds) you basically have enough chips to play 3 hands to the river, and picking up the blinds will add 7.5% to your stack, so you should always open with a raise - and you should not be afraid to raise or re-raise to isolate in position if you have a hand worth playing.....but be very selective about which hands they are. (I once won a SNG on Party by playing only 5 hands!)Don't panic if your stack doesn't grow very quickly initially, but in the mid stages you may need to switch to the "go big or go home" strategy.Have Fun.

some other notes:3betting hands that play well both ways (doublesuited 3 wheel hands, three broadway with an a2/a3 and a soot or two, etc.) will help you accumulate chips early if you are able to get hands HU.don't be afraid to get extremely aggressive if your table shows a lot of weakness. if you have good feel postflop sometimes you can conceivably raise every hand profitably late in a LO8 tourney (i do this often) to accumulate chips and really get paid off on your monsters if they adapt.but yeah, play pretty tight early until you figure out how things are going to go, generally. then open up as it seems you should.good luck!

Don't let TV fool you, dude. 15-20 minute levels are standard, save for the pricy tournaments.

roflYou mean there is poker on TV??I guess my live experience has been in what you would call the pricey events, so you may well be right for this buy-in.

I think, and correct me if I'm wrong, most people who answered have played in live LO8 events and I don't know what TV TwoFourOffsuit is watching, but I personally never have seen any LO8, tourney or otherwise, on TV.I've played from $250 up to $1000 entries and none had 30 minute levels. Is that pricey? lol

Are you saying that in the tourneys you played they were longer or shorter. I definately wish that they were longer.. 30 minutes was just too short for my liking.I finished 19th out of 121. Thanks for the advice everyone.

They were longer levels in the live tourney I have played - but the buy-in was more than this one.Congrats on a good result for your first one - top 15%, so you must have just missed the money.

Man, I've never played LO8 live, but I can just imagine you probably get like 10 hands in, maximum, in a 30 minute level.
15, if you're lucky :club:
