why not go after a Morrison, Recchi, Guerin..For essentially nothing..
Guerin: overpaid, too much cap, really not useful to themRecchi: not my idea of a great depth player. He needs prime time minutes to be successfulMorrison: ummmmmmm. sucks! have you seen Morrison the last 2 years? Terrible player, absolutely terrible. the first 2 you could make a case for, but neither is a great need for Mtl. A first line C was their need, good luck finding THAT today.

The bolded part is evidently now public. I was not aware. An excerpt from the press conference during the donation pledge....   At Wednesday’s announcement, P.K. was filled with emotion as he talked

This is not the Leafs thread...we don't celebrate every little accomplishment.

Doesn't really matter though. If he creates 5 goals and costs his team 4 goals, he is still more valuable than a super shut down defenseman who never gives up a goal but who never creates a goal for e

Because you don't get them for nothing. You have to make room both within your salary cap and roster. Wow, I'm starting to see why the Mustangs are in last.

If you look at the rosters of team for next year, the Montreal Canadiens are slated to finish last in the league...No free agents will go there in the summer...Have fun with the AHL roster.

Name your odds and I'll bet you $100 minimum that the Canadiens don't finish last in the league. Come on...put your money where your huge mouth is. You're just trolling now because your team is tanking and has resorted to picking up scraps from the Ottawa Senators. The Leafs will be lucky to finish higher than third in their division within the next 5 years.

Obviously with the Lang injury and Price forgetting how to play, Montreal isnt going anywhere this season. Gaineys focus must be on the offseason which I assume is why he did nothing today but it just doesnt make sense. You saw with guys like Moore and Antropov the Leafs made a decision on wether or not they would keep them and then got something for them. It seems like Montreal missed a big opportunity to reduce the summer work load and possibly get something for players that wont be kept past this year.

Montreal is 5th in the Eastern Conference with 75 points. There are only 4 teams in the Western Conference with more points. Halak has been playing great and Price really hasn't been missed yet. Tanguay and Latendresse will be coming back in the near future. You should try to watch a hockey game that the Leafs aren't involved in.

Thats my whole argument..Most GMs traded their UFAs that they believed they wont keep, or extended them..Gainey did NOTHING....Its impossible for him to keep most of those players...They are in trouble.

I was just about to ask you to explain why it's impossible and then I realized it was you and you probably have no idea. You just like to spew shit from your mouth because it probably makes you feel better.

He didn't do nothing any more than Lou Lamiorello did nothing, he just did his something before everyone else.

Lou has a much better team first of all...Also 80% of his roster is set for next year

50%, they only have 12 players signed for next year. Montreal has 11, in case you were wondering. It was a good try though.

I really don't think Buffalo improved at all, for the present or future. At very best we're exactly where we were yesterday, minus the best shootout specialist in the league.

This, I'll grant you. It's definitely going to be a new-look Montreal team next season. Only Higgins, Chipchura, Latendresse and Plekanec are RFA.

The whole argument I am trying to convey that the Habs fan ridicule..You have Kovalev,Koivu, Tanguay , Lang, Bouillon, Dandenault,Komisarek and Brisebois ALL of them UFA...Why not try and extend some of them or move some of them....Its such a wildcard situation in Montreal for next year...With all the rumours off the ice, I would be surprised if any of those players resign.

Every team made improvements? Please enlighten me how the Panthers, Sabres or even the Rangers improved. You and your sidekick Serge are so blinded by the big lights of T.O. that you don't even consider trades as improvements unless they are made on trade deadline deal. You don't think Schneider improved Montreal's powerplay?

Wether or not those teams improved is debatable but atleast they tried. Gainey didnt become a top nhl GM by being a dumbass so im sure he has something planned. Itl be interesting to see how he handles the free agent situation.

Yeah, they're no Dainius Zubrus, David Clarkson or Jay Pandolfo.Serge, you really have no idea what you're talking about. What teams were in the market to take any of Montreal's UFAs? Teams were trading UFAs for picks and/or prospects. The Habs are not on the same path as a rebuilding team. They are in 5th place right now and trying to lock up a playoff spot. Why would they trade a UFA like Kovalev for a pick? Not even the Florida Panthers traded their UFA. Montreal had one real need this deadline and a big #1 centre wasn't available (I don't consider Ollie Jokinen a #1 centre). And as for all the players Montreal needs to sign...that just means they will have plenty of cap room and will have a lot of flexibility. There will be plenty of teams who will be tight against the cap and I think GMs will be much more reluctant to throw around big money multi-year contracts. It's just too much of a risk (unless it's a A+ player). I think there will be plenty of bargains to be had by the teams who have cap room in the next few seasons.I'd much rather have Alexei Kovalev and Saku Koivu becoming UFAs next season than having $11+ million locked up in Patrick Elias and Brian Rolston for each of the next 3 seasons (Elias is also signed for a 4th season at $6 million). You honestly don't think there will be better players on which to spend $11 million in the coming years?

Time will tell....I think when you HAVE to sign a whole bunch of players there always seems to be trouble...There isnt that many quality free agents out there, there are a few but Montreal will need a lot of them if they dont resign their existing UFAs

So if Montreal doesn't sign their UFAs doesn't that mean that other teams will be signing them and leaving other free agents available for Montreal? Also, you have to consider the teams that will be looking to shed salary by trading a player (like Tanguay) for a pick (like a 2nd) or a prospect.

The first quote is Serge criticizing Bob Gainey and the Montreal Canadiens for trading UFA Christobal Huet for a 2nd round draft pick last year. The second quote is Serge criticizing Bob Gainey and the Montreal Canadiens for not trading any of their UFAs.Conclusion...Serge is not interested in intelligent discussion about hockey. He is only interested in bashing the Montreal Canadiens and a few other teams. /conversations with Serge
