Goin To Kansas Acity

Recommended Posts

I'll be out there Easter weekend for a friend's wedding. So I've found 4 casinos that have poker -- Ameristar; Argosy Riverside; Isle of Capris; and Harrah's North and I'm wondering if I"m missing any. Also, any recommendations or opinions of the different rooms? TIA!

No idea how any of the casino's are but I will tell you that a couple buddy's of mine went out to Kansas City a few years ago and came back saying it was the worst city they have ever been to.

Harrah's or Ameristar will be your best bets. Harrah's has 3/6 limit and up to 2/5 NL. Ameristar is the same except the limit is With a Kill. Ameristar sometimes gets an Omaha game going and also get a higher limit game (10/20 I think).I usually play at Harrah's (my Girlfriend is a slot junky and she get's the Frequent Player Points for the freebie's in Vegas). Argosy is a small cozy room that gets an omaha game going as well if that's what your looking for.And as far as KC being a bad city, I'd stack it up against most. I've lived in Texas, Oklahoma, traveled to Deleware and Minnesota for work. Deleware (Wilmington area) was the worst by far AINEC!

KC is OK. Go to the plaza, get some of the best BBQ in the world, catch a Royals game, and hit Harrah's.

Here's the secret to KC: it doesn't have any entertainment downtown area...yet. The REAL area is called The Plaza. This is where the upscale shopping, restaurants, bars. etc are all located. Its about 5 miles south of the downtown area....and the Plaza is next to an area called Westport, where the partying is. People from out of town think (naturally) that they should go downtown and are bitterly disappointment when they get there. KC's downtown area is going through a revival currently. The Sprint Arena will be finished in October and along with it, a whole entertainment district is being built. The football/baseball stadiums are not located downtown, so that has hurt development in the past.

I've never actually been there but I've heard that Isle of Capri is a real dump. I'm not sure of their games but they advertise $2/$4 if you're looking for stakes lower than $3/$6. Also, the four you mentioned are the only casinos in town. Also, as someone earlier said, get some barbeque while you're here, Arthur Bryant's actually has a location inside of Ameristar. Best of LuckEdit: Here are some links to local poker rooms with some tourny schedules if your interestedAmeristarHarrah'sArgosyIsle of Capri's had no useful information

Definitely avoid the Isle of Capri. Never much action there and not nearly as nice as the rooms at Ameristar, Harrah's and Argosy. Ameristar definitely will have the most traffic and has the largest room (by a couple of tables). If you go on a Friday or Saturday night after 8:00 pm, you're probably looking at a 15 to 45 minute wait to get a seat. The Argosy's room is nice, but just not as many fish generally as Ameristar and Harrah's (mostly local rocks). Another plus, Ameristar and Harrah's are only about four miles apart if you get to one and it doesn't suit you. 3/6 limit and 1/2 and 2/5 NL will be the games of choice. If you want to play something else, ask them to start an "interst" list. You never know when there might be ten or so other folks dying to play some 10/20 razz. :)Good luck, and have fun.

The Isle no longer has a poker room, and when they did it was a real dump and only had small "limit" games. Someone suggested the Argosy, yes it is the newest room in the city but it is VERY small and by far has the smallest amount of people going to it. Games break all the time because there are not enough players to keep it going. Harrah's and Ameristar are the only real options you have and your choice depends on what you like to play. Harrah's has 3/6 LHE and 2/5 NLHE. Ameristar has the same but the NLHE games are not near as good and they have more LHE games available. Ameristar will spread higher limit LHE games and sometimes 7-card stud. Be aware that Missouri has a "loss-limit" law which says you can only buy in for $500 every 2 hours. However if you are smart about you there are ways to get around it. The 2 hour thing rolls over at the even numbered hours NOT in 2 hour intervals for every individual players. So you could theoretically buy-in for $500 at 7:59 PM and then buy in for another $500 at 8 PM. To summerize I would say if you want to play limit try either Harrah's or Ameristar but if you want no limit I would suggest you go to Harrah's. The action at Harrah's is much better but the players are better too. If you want to try both they are about a 7 minute car ride away from each other. Good luck.
