What Should I Do?

Recommended Posts

Poker has not been going my way lately. Since it is diffucult to deposit and withdraw money on Internet poker sites, I have gone to live poker. There is a local poker club that I have been going to. I usually take a buddy there. too. They play 1/2 Nl. They are very loose there and I feel I am one of the better players there. Anyway I have found myself dropping about 400 dollars there totally over the last month. Which may not seem a lot to you guys but it is a lot to me being a college student and only working 15 hours a week. I really feel in the long run things will go my way, than again maybe they will not and I am just being stubborn and think I am better than most of them. After tonight I am thinking about quitting poker altoghether. Most of me wants to get back in there and make my money back but I can not afford to get deep in the hole. I always have that feeling wanting to get my money back. Therefore having that feeling I feel like I have a gambling problem. So I feel like I have some options and have a buddy loan me money to play there, so I can continue playing and hopefully get my money back and more, or possibly I feel I need professional help because I have a gambling problem. Even though I feel like the best player I just hate losing money playing poker. If I am going to lose money it should be on something I enjoy. Not that I dont enjoy poker but I hate the game so much when I lose. 1/2 is to high for me because I dont have the money and with no Internet I cant play .10/.25Nl-1/2NL and 10-50 dollar tournies like I use to because of the diffucltuies to make transacations on there. If I dont play there anymore I feel bad for my buddy because he has no way of getting there and home. So do you guys think I should seek professional help and try to get help or continue and try to grind it out or any other suggestions.

I would just say you are learning the pain of losing your hard earned money. Most go through it, some learn from it, some don't. I think that fact that you think you may have a problem and are cognizant of the impact that losing is having on the quality of your life tells me you are not really a true degenerate yet.As for your buddy, if he can afford to play there, then he can take a taxi. Don't let that be your excuse to continuing to go, especially if the losses are bugging you. Going to college and all, you may need to park this sideline until you get out and pay off any loans etc. It would be nice to hit a WPT payday and skip college, but the majority who try, fail, so I would say buckle down and get through college, get a good job, then you can look back in playing with some spare money, FOR FUN.Trust me, a college degree is +EV, in both the short and long term, much less subject to the random fate of a shuffled deck of cards.Good luck and hang in there. By the way, if you need to kill time, get a girlfriend if you don't have one. She should keep you preoccupied, if not ball and chained cuz you want to go to the casino instead of spending time with her. The occasional nook should be worth the hassle.

It's really not that hard to deposit and withdraw money from some of the online sites. It sounds like 1/2 NL is beyond your bankroll if you can't withstand the swing of being down $400 . You need to go back to online, if you play at all. Good Luck !

Here's the thing, if you can't spot the sucker in your first half hour at the table, you're the sucker. Also, watch out for people eating Oreos, it gives a lot away...

your problem is that you are clearly playing above your roll. even if you are better than the others you have no room for variance. and it's not that hard to deposit online and grind it up to where you are within your roll playing 1-2...

Be iron-fisted about your online bankroll. Play freerolls, win a teenie cash prize, then start building with $1 SNGs or something. You're in NO POSITION to be at a casino.

Thanks guys for all the replies. Its just the regulars at this club are so loose and its easy to get paid off but obviously Im on a downswing, but than again as mentioned I don't have the bankroll to play there. What do you guys think is the best way to get money onto and off of a poker site. I was using Neteller in the past.

I use Jedi-Mind tricks to deposit and withdrawl.I think on the 7th level using the meta-game strategy Ivey uses.If you work hard enough you may learn how to use this as well. :D:D:):D:club::D If $400 is a big lose for you, (over a month), you are not properly rolled to play the $1/$2 game.

Get a prepaid visa card. I used gift2go. Rumor has it you can buy them at pharmacies, Walmart, and convenience stores. I ordered mine online at www.gift2go.net and had it in a few days. It worked fine for me at Absolute. Many players on this forum have used this brand at many other sites too. Some of the other brands have not worked so well. Good luck !

I used a gift2go prepaid VISA card that I bought at Walgreens. It took about 5 minutes to get the money deposited onto Full Tilt. Then ... stay within your bankroll and your comfort limit. As many people have said. Never gamble with money you can't afford to lose.Good luck.
