11 to 1 0
A woman in California got pretty mad at her teenage son because he was never home on time and was always expecting her to taxi him around everyplace because he was only 14 and couldn't drive. Like most kids, he was pretty self-centered and inconsiderate of everyone's time and needs but his own. While that's normal, the mom decided to draw a line one day and told him he had to start being home when he was supposed to, she wasn't getting out of bed anymore to pick him up at 1 am from his friends' houses, he could just walk or take his bike. One Saturday, he called her from a house in the hills and asked her to pick him up because it was about ten miles to walk home. She stuck to her guns, he was young and strong and healthy and he could walk the ten miles and think about making better choices. I think it was about a week before they found his body, he'd been abducted, tortured, raped and killed. They got the bad guy, but it wasn't much help to his mom. That was a true story. THAT'S something people don't get over. So, Daniel, if you meant this seriously, it's time to grow the hell up and get some perspective. Your fanstasy hockey game doesn't even register on the list of what's important in life. If you think it does, I suggest serious therapy. Or just - go join the Peace Corps for a year or something. Your response is akin to people getting all bent when a sports figure says something like "it was a war today".... HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT WHAT YOU DO IS A WAR WHEN PEOPLE ARE DYING RIGHT NOW FOR YOUR FREEDOM TO PLAY A GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the fact that you lambast Daniel on this makes you a horrible hypocrite.. When someone is upset, even if it is a miniscule thing, we will say things that we don't mean.... It's just our way of expressing frustation.. We all know that we don't mean it, I'm sure Daniel wasn't serious, and for you to bring up this topic makes you a hyprocite..If you have never said a statement like Daniel's then I will turn cut my own nuts off,Or say I'm sorry... either one
Jam-Fly 8
That 14 yr old should have been at home playing internet poker so he could make enough money to hire a professional chauffeur.Btw, I kinda know how Daniel feels (altho I didn't take it quite as seriously as him). I used play a fantasy soccer league and I was rly into it. I took over a team fighting releagation. Got them from rock bottom to one above the relegation zone. Last game, lost 8-0 and went down to Division 2 on goal difference. All because there was a problem with the computer and my goalie was set to play as a left back. Nice... DanielNegreanu 141
LOL this is seriously funny! I read that post and felt so horrible for that mother, than I realized that you were trying to diss me! Seriously, when I say I'll never get over it, I mean in context of my fantasy league that's a mistake I'll never forget and never get over. Just like when Buffalo lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl when they should have won. I'll never get over that defeat, it will stick with me always. As for the fantasy error, if it costs me the game it'll drive me crazy because I know that it was my fault, not my team's fault. It's all on the manager, and if I could, I'd fire myself after that debacle!

Sharks fans are some of the most hard core, and if you've never been to a Sharks game...prepare to be blown away. Especially right now during playoff time...it's gonna be nuts. Anyway, welcome again...and I look forward to seeing you out a Bay 101 and maybe even the game...I'll be there.
MR_BIZKITZ 0
I was really into fantasy stock market for a while and was up millions in "play money". I started to take is so seriously that I would actually lose sleep thinking about my fantasy portfolio lol. The trading platform was almost the same as any E-brokerage and I started with a million dollars. After I started to get up a few million I really started taking it very serious because I could have made that with real money doing everything the same.I was 18 and starting to do like 20 hours a week in research for this fantasy market. Making millions in play chips ended up making me $0 but was one of the greatest feelings ever.I had to give it up though after I caught myself skipping a class to daytrade a few hot stocks with my fantasy dollars lolololol. Still hurts just thinking about that one as I'm sure it was a hit in the wallet to a lot of people. Not to further belabor the point, but I'm in agreement here. It's a figure of speech and to say that we don't all at one point or another define a day, month, or life by one bad moment. It's not meant to be taken dead seriously, but I think it's silly to critique based on that.
DanielNegreanu 141
IT"S HAPPENING!!!!! I"M GONNA LOSE IT!!!!! What would have been a sure win already is now a close game. YouLoveIt 0
It's pretty ironic then that an overly literal negative attention seeking poster such as yourself probably wouldn't have a single person thinks it was the worst thing ever if you were raped and mutilated. Keep up the good work though with providing others with a good sense of self worth for not being close to your level of repressed angst. BTW while I'm at it thanks for providing a safe harbor of ego to vent my own frustrations on. I know this post won't even register with some one that possesses an attitude like yours, or you could prove me wrong and post back. Either way you already made a bigger spectacle of yourself than I could bring myself to. Peace OxideNitrous Out.... <yeah yeah emoticons are a vice >

Livaso 0
I agree with the point of the OP.But I've been in petty entertainment addictions before. It makes me feel shallow but what can I say. I wish I still had the fire in the belly attitude that makes me hate myself for liking stupid things. I hate the fact that people are well off enough in the western world to turn blind eyes to suffering but I would refresh boxscores for hours when a game wasn't televised. At least I'm glad I left fantasy sports in college. It's the paramount of a time waster. Like Tetris. You have no idea why it's so fun. What's worse, that we need personal tragedies to awaken us from our apathy or that we know that and still let ourselves act that way until the tragedy takes place?Empty questions, really.Great Overtime Raptors win tonight. He started out saying himself it wasn't hyperbole, that we might think he is crazy for being so upset - well - he's right. And professional poker players who travel halfway around the world to get to a major event and give themselves no time to adjust to the time difference, show up without knowing the buy-in, and chronically arrive late without money to play, who have certain dietary desires and can't figure out how to take care of themselves at a place they ALREADY KNOW will not have food, this guy needs help. I'm not criticizing him, I am worried about him. Now, if he didn't want responses, he shouldn't post in a public place, if he doesn't like my responses, he can put me on Ignore and so can you and I suggest you do so immediatly. The truth is, if he wasn't kinda screwed up he wouldn't be a great poker player. And if he wasn't kinda screwed up, he wouldn't post that crap on a blog as if a lot of strangers online are actual friends. Daniel - sorry to talk about you in third person. Therapy. Now. What you feel isn't "wrong" - feelings never are - but it's so completely inappropriate to the situation even you must know you are getting to the end of some rope you've tied a knot in. Then later, when all this dies down, you take some time to think. Since you have tried to tell me what I need to do with my life in a very matter of fact way, I feel ok doing the same. You should relax a little bit and don't take yourself, or what I write about my fantasy hockey team so seriously. It's figure of speech and when you read things online, if you always take the literal meaning you'll be the one missing out on the joke. If you could SEE me say that I don't know if I could get over it, you'd see a big old grin on my face and me making fun of myself for being so obsessed with a freakin' fantasy hockey pool! I love this pool, and so does everyone involved with it. Only us sickos really understand how insane'y cool this league is. You seem to be one in a minority of people who often miss the humor in things. I would advise you to not get therapy, but learn to laugh a little. You are way too high strung and take these silly things I say way too seriously. Telling me I must need therapy because of a blog with a humorous intent, is just... well, kind of bizarre, don't you think?
DanielNegreanu 141
By the way people... I WON GAME FIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I won the game 0.5 to 0. Without that mistake it would have been 2.5-0, but the good news is that I'm ONE victory away from the conference final!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I lose the next two games I'm liable to jump...(11 to 1 that last part was a joke. I don't really plan on committing suicide if I don't win my hockey pool. Thought I'd add this disclaimer so that you don't get confused.)
