2 Great Stories Of "poker Karma"

Recommended Posts

My wife and I played in both of the Sahara tourneys last night... getting a little tired of cash games so thought we'd throw around some chips in the smaller $62 buyin (it has a great structure and horrible players).Story 1:"Angry guy" was at another table and wasn't paying attention, he called the big blind after someone had raised. Floorperson ruled he had to leave the BB call in the pot and could fold or call the raise. He bintched and whined for like 5 minutes. So I made a mental note to get under his skin if possible. 15 minutes later he was moved to my table. He had a relatively big stack but someone called him down with AJ to his A10 and put him on MORE tilt. "What the Fuccck are you doing calling me to the river with AJ, no pair??!?"I told him, "Sir, there are 2 ladies on this table could you please be careful with your choice of words?". To which he replied, "F off, it's none of your business". Next hand, one of the girls pushes her medium stack all-in, he instantly called, all folded and she flips up AJ (she was the TIGHTEST player on the table), he flips up 1010 and says, "how can you f-ing put me all in with Ace f-ing jack?" (LOL didn't HE CALL!?!). She wins the pot, he goes on and on towards her, "Dude, what a horrible way to play AJ", etc. etc. To which I said, "SIR, have some respect for the ladies, please watch your language and how you treat others at the table!".He again told me to "f-off" and I sad, "Sir, you CALLED the tightest player on the table when she went all in and YOU are complaining that you lost a coinflip?!?".He says, "She's my girlfriend" etc. etc.I said, "OH so, you calle her HOPING to TAKE HER OUT of the tourney, now you are MAD that she won!?!? Nice, dude, you are a REAL man".He told me to "f-off" again so I called floor, he got a warning. :)Now I'm on the BB about 5 hands later, he's in MP. Before anyone could ask he says, "How much does that guy have?" (asking about me, intending on putting me all in). Before his action, someone else raised, he huffed and puffed, and folded. NEXT hand, I'm SB... he says again, "how much does he have?" I tell him "8500" (blinds were 1000-2000). He pushes all-in. All fold, I look down to 99. Figure I'm probably a coinflip to his KQ or something... I call.. and the BB also calls!! Angry guy proudly flips up... AJ! I show my pair, he huffs and puffs... and BB flips up AK. Of course they both hit an A on the river BUT the funny thing is the BB took the dude out when he was trying to get ME out. :club: Gotta love karma!---Story 2.My wife made it to the final 12 players, and in this tourney the players usually agree to give 11 and 12th place their money back, and take $60 each from 1st and 2nd place payout (1st was around $3500). Nobody ever complains, it's nice to do, etc. My wife had just suffered a bad beat and was down to like 3x the BB. She was happy figuring she'd bubble. Well some donk on her table said that he didn't agree, that the payouts are the payouts, etc. He had a lot of chips. So there was discussion/arguement for like 5 minutes. A couple hands later, the tightest guy on the table raises, arguing guy pushes all in, all fold except original raiser who makes him count out his chips.. then says, "I guess you shouldn't have argued about 12th place getting their money back"... And flips up AA. Takes the donk out of the tourney. Donk bolts out. All are cheering at the great outcome. Final 10 agree to give 11th the money back. That turns out to be my wife. Oh, and the donk left $3 in casino chips at the table in his haste to leave. Everyone was joking that it should go to 11th place finisher. Of course they all agreed to give it to the dealers. Was a fun night. Gotta love karma!

I love the Sahara & the tournaments there. I stayed for 6 days last year and played a lot. I managed to chop 1 of the 7:00 pm tourneys. Great room. Some good dealers!!! Tell Natty hi if you go back.

Jeremy, your first story was funny. There are a lot of jerks, especially at the Sahara tourney, it reminds me how much I hate people and poker players (but not you fine folk, you all are awesome).Your second story though, I think is wrong of you to call out the guy who didn't want to give the bubble their money back. You see, he may have been being a "jerk" as you may have saw it and you may have thought it was karma he ended up bubbling, but a tourney player who is looking to WIN the tourney would never accept a deal to give the bubble their money back even if they were short-ish. In that tourney, I've won it 3 times and chopped a few times and it's a great cheapie experimental tourney, the money is small potatoes. But it might mean something to Joe Schmo or some tight old lady who wants to make sure she walks out with some money for her time. So I want to put myself in the best position to win and I'm not being a jerk by refusing to give in to table pressure. I'm being smart, I'm trying to exploit the tight tendencies of my opponents on a bubble and get their chips so I can win the tourney. To give in to their pressure just because it's "nice" would be to hurt my chances of winning and this is poker after all, no crying, no whining, no friends. So if some guy or lady is mad at me for not giving her the $60 bubble prize, so be it. But don't misinterpret that as being a jerk and don't say it's karma when that guy bubbles. To be honest, I'd rather bubble 3 tourneys taking advantage of the bubble to win one tourney, and often that's what it takes sometimes. Who cares about money back? Obviously, some people, so exploit it, don't knock it.
