atari2600 0
From this morning's Indianapolis Star:Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi said the police bring few illegal gambling cases to his office. Laws are inconsistent, he said, allowing some forms of gambling while outlawing others, such as pea shakes and sports pools."Why is the lottery OK, and a card game is not OK?" he asked. "I think that ought to be changed. It's silly."Link to articleYay!
Muck, You Suckers! 0
I can see where a lot of prosecutors wouldn't want to have to deal with police rounding up card players and hauling them into court. The county courts across this country are already overloaded with misdemeanor cases. To get a trial here in some parts Texas on a misdemeanor case can take a long time. Prosecutors are willing to cut deals on plea very quickly to avoid trials. Still this has nothing to do with internet gaming. The U.S. government doesn't just want to control internet gaming, I believe it wants to eventually control and regulate all aspects of how the citizens of the U.S. use the internet. The government's attack on the financial aspect of internet gaming is already spilling over into other areas. A fellow charter captain that I know, recently tried to purchase a case of fishing reels from a wholesale outfit in Japan. He has purchased these reels in the past with no problems. This time he ran into problems with being able to pay for them using the same method he had in the past. They have totally scared the crap out of financial institutions here in the U.S. about transferring funds abroad. Now that's "silly". Here is the way they see it.Lotteries are moral and ethical, and just fine because they are owned and run by the government.Horse racing is moral and ethical, and just fine because they are owned and run by the super rich.Card players are not okay, because that is money you should have spent on the lottery, or on overpriced, overtaxed BS you buy from the super rich. And while they are at it, they can keep individuals and small busnesses from doing business abroad without their consent or paying to use the super rich as a middle man. It's all about control and has nothing to do with justice. Prosecutors know this.
