dtblizz 0
As opposed to the people that voted against him simply because of his color? I think its funny that in a country where a pretty decent % of the population is racist that you think someone was elected because he was black. Nice logic. Especially since most black people weren't already Democrats before this election right?black people didnt vote before this election...the statistical increase in the number of black voters coupled with the percentage of black voters that voted for obama definitely shows a racial bias there. do i blame them? no. i think this was pretty much a perfect storm. he is extremely liberal and he is black...the first doesn't seem to fit with a predominately moderately conservative america. the second doesnt seem to fit with the racist america you described. could a person like this ever be elected president without the amazing series of events that have unfolded recently?....current president, economic downturn, oil crisis, credit crisis...does this say more about how far our country has come since segregation or more about how insanely we react to things? terradawg 0
On the contrary, I think it's sad to think about all the people who voted for him simply because of the color of his skin and not the merits of his platform. Ceteris paribas, a white obama would never have been elected, and I think that's an extremely poor reflection on our country.I wholeheartedly disagree with this statement. I think his platform of change was the single most important factor in his candidacy. He had a clear message and stayed the course throughout the primaries and general election. McCain had a muddled message and focused on negative connections (true or not, mostly not) from Obama's past. What would electing him have said about our country? Maybe the true beauty of it all is that we voted for someone based on his platform and not for the person who focused not on his own policies but on a series of accusations that were mostly ridiculous and untrue... I think you are way off that he will be pushing a completely liberal agenda. I think given his historical significance he is going to do everything he can to make sure he creates a lasting legacy. Making his Presidency partisan is a sure way to make sure that doesn't happen. He has moved much more to the middle since all this started. I highly doubt he is moving back. Deftones150 0
Not to mention that a Republican president edit: hasn't done what they are suppose to do in 20 years which is decrease spending. I find it odd that the last time we had a surplus was with a democratic president. The fact is Obama rallied people of all demographics the way no candidate has in decades and he did it without trying to induce fear but hope instead speaks volumes about him as a leader. Ceteris paribas, a white obama would never have been elected, and I think that's an extremely poor reflection on our country. It's well known that young people have an inherent bias towards black people. I think it had something to do with that trashy hip hop culture that everyone talks about. Seriously, what a dumb statement.

dtblizz 0
So which states would McCain have won against a white Obama that would have put him over 270?You currently need 114.honestly for the democrats to lose this election they would have had to try really, really hard...and they did. in terms of record their ticket is the most liberal of all time and their top two presidential candidates were a woman and a black man. they really went for it. they said "hey, we can do anything we want. this president is considered one of the worst ever and the economy is tanking...let's really go for it. what do we have to lose?"
