Vtlaxer09 4
OK I wanna see what some of you guys who play live every once in a while think of this. I sit in a 2/5 game at the Taj and we're playing 4 handed. 3 seat is an Asian Guy with about 2500 in front. Im in the 5 seat with about 650. 6 seat is a passiveish kid with about 600. and the 8 seat is a super nit with 250.Asian Kid has the button.. 1 fold and he makes it 25. I call from the sb with Kd9d.. BB comes along as well. Flop is Ad8d3c. I check, BB checks, asian kid checks behind. Turn Jd. I fire 40$.. BB makes it 80.. Asian Kid folds. Gets back to me and I think for a minute and put another 120 on top. BB looks sick and says something about this being the same hand he 3 bet the last orbit (which he claimed was AK). Im almost positive that he's gonna tank a little longer and fold... so I say (almost exactly) "Hey I dont know what you have but I dont mind checking down the river if you put the 120 in." I dont think I really say anything else and he flicks it in drawing dead with AK. Obviously the reason for me to say that was either way im not going to get a river bet off him and it seemed like he was almost certainly folding turn. My question is... How much of an angle shoot is this? Unethical? Totally fine? When I said it I didnt really think about it and was just trying to get the call... but right after I felt like it was a little out of line.....Your thoughts are appreciated. Jordan 1
did he flick in the cards or his chips? lol.i'm not really sure...it seems a bit unethical considering what you have and why you want him to call. if you had like AJ or something, I don't think it would be as much of an angle shoot. It's def. pulling an angle...ppl do it all the time, just a question of if it's over the line...i'm not 100% sure.also, fold k9dd pre to 5x raise oop...- Jordan

Suited_Up 2
I see things like this a lot, but usually it's more like 2 people sitting next to each other for some strange reason want to check it down the entire way. Which is just stupid. In your case, you at least had to make a read on his hand before you did it. He didn't specifically tell you what he had. (Might as well have, but not the point.) So I think it makes it less borderline based on that. Plus you still gave him the choice. It's an angle, but I don't think it's really over the line.
Jordan 1
if he really is opening every pot then meh, i'd prob rather 3bet it than anything. i know live players are diff, but flatting there just isn't going to work out if he is worth his salt post flop.feel free to flat more in pos, i just think u get owned a lot trying to play k9 oop. - Jordan

I kinda took the principle and got a call out of a Good hand but one that I knew was drawing dead. Obviously im not worried about playing a big pot here... I was just 100% positive I wasnt getting paid unless I said something like I did. Personally, I think its kinda genius.. but then again.. I think its a little cheap... but then again it is poker. Naismith 0
Wow, I wouldn't have considered that an angle shoot at all. I would've just felt dumb for calling with AK. On the other hand, if you would've said that and fired the river...well, then you deserve a punch to the groin.

chgocubs99 0
I sort of see why someone would have a problem with that...sort of. I don't think it's a big deal at all, he should have just said "no", used the extra information you gave him, and played the hand out. That's what I do anytime someone asks if I want to "check it down" at any point.

We do all kinds of things to influence players to call. I think this is pretty genius imo. If you then bet the river, I would think it was a dick move because then you've violated the gentleman's agreement you made with the guy to check it down.Mark
