I've found @ 25NL its popular for people to open for 4X - same questions?
FWIW 4x is the "standard" raise taught by most cardrunners players for use at that level and most levels beyond. 4x+1x for every limper.

Cheers - I wondered if it was possibly a CR or 2+2 thing

can we just stop converting our hands? i assume we can read raw hand histories
Way easier to read converted hands.I was all set to go to bed last night, then GrinderMJ texts me at 145 and I end up staying up til 5 degenning in the pit. Yay blackjack, screw Texas Holdem Bonus.

Played another sesh, took another 6 buyins at $50. Now for something that may help me with my game. I'd say I play a pretty aggressive style, which I've been noticing has been starting my sessions off very poorly. It seems like every session I've played I start off down a buyin or 2, then end up winning it back and then some. Have any of you noticed something similar with your sessions? Is it really a leak if it gives you action later in the match? I'm pretty much referring to HU, as I don't play 6max at all really. Anyways, I guess I'm just looking for some other players perspectives on the tempo they shoot for at the start of a match.
As long as you get good info at the beginning of the match and aren't just randomly spewing just to spew then its no big deal. With most of the ppl you are going to be playing at lower limits (especially if you are game selecting well) you shouldn't have to play crazy to set up action later. Most of them are going to play bad and pay you off regardless so there is no sense trying to create action. Also, with the amount of hit and runs at HU it sucks to fire 3 barrells as a bluff in like the 3rd hand only to see them leave after the 5th hand.

Like everything else in poker, you just have to work out what the hell they're doing then at accordingly. If someone is opening 4x every time then basically play the same as you normally would if they were potting it. If a tight player mixes between the too, then raises 4x UTG, i'm inclined to think he's got a stronger range than usual, but again it's all about your reads on certain people and what their actions mean. One thing I would add is that as you're new to $25, don't be scared of 3-betting someone who opens to 4x because you're a bit uncomfortable with the money involved(Not saying you are, just that it happened to me a bit when I was playing under rolled)

This is exactly why I asked my question. I guess I've been fortunate that I've been playing very long sessions vs my opponents. To be honest, nobody I've played so far at $50 has been very good. Even the multi tablers and full stacks are still slightly above average at best, and I actually find I've made the most money off these opponents because I can tell they probably do win against the short stackers and terrible players, and tilt easily when they aren't winning. But you're right, I really shouldn't need to play crazy to start the match as my opponents will probably become POW's anyway. Also, I've been anonymous railing most of the HU players in this thread, and I envy you all when you're playing 1/2 to 3/6 and people sit with their entire BR. It just seems like 2/4 and 3/6 is where people love to just spew the last of their BR.

I've not really had much cards to 3bet any of them yet, but I know what you mean - i'm used to the money change now, but still not venturing to a deep table yet, need to see if the shot can stick first

Did I play this hand horribly? The reason I checked the flop was because I knew he'd fire out on the turn. I probably should have raised the turn. Villain is pretty fishy, but I have yet to see him get out of line.Edit: I should include that his PF range is quite wide. Easy fold on the river? Or am I giving him too much credit for a straight or set?Poker StarsNo Limit Holdem Ring gameBlinds: $0.25/$0.502 playersConverterPre-flop: (2 players) Hero is SB with :club::DHero raises to $1.5, BB calls.Flop: :ts:D:5c ($3, 2 players)BB checks, Hero checks.Turn: :D ($3, 2 players)BB bets $2.5, Hero calls.River: :4h ($8, 2 players)BB bets $3.5, Hero raises to $9, BB raises all-in $35.7

Meh it's HU so it's going to be 'it depends' Against someone decent you should you probably bet that flop most of the time because it's a great board to C-bet on and he should know that if you check the flop you're rarely folding to a turn bet. Against a fish I don't think its horribly played, but it's not something you should be doing a lot I think, especialy if there's any inclination he's prepared to make moves on dry flops like this one.Actualy I think you should raise the turn as well and hope he spazzes out with a draw or pair+gutter

I have no idea how you could fold that, did I read wrong or did you have the nut flush draw aswell?

Thats a gross spot because I'm sure you were expecting him to call and show his A6 or something. I mean, he definately doesnt seem concerned about anything on that board, which means he most likely has a very strong hand. He has no idea what range to put you on, nor does he care. He seems to be valuebetting that river very thin expecting a call and 67 is definately part of his range to call OOP. That said, I don't think I'm good enough to fold that hand in that spot, and would most likely look him up, and ponder this hand for hours.
