AmScray 355
Connor's wrestling may be his Achilles heel but his TDD is pretty damn good. Roy Nelson has made a respectable UFC career out of TDD and counter-punching and he's a fat middleweight fighting monsters. Does anyone know of McGregor has any jits whatsoever? . king_tanner 84
Ufc 178 Romero vs Kennedy Cruz vs Mizugaki McGregor vs Poirier Jones vs Gustafson Cat Zingano vs somebody Thompson vs Cote Id pay $500 for this ppv
Ron_Mexico 4,219
Funny. That is a solid card.

AmScray 355
Think Dominic ruins his knee again before or during the fight? First bout since October 1, 2011 If he opens cheap, I'll buy his ring-rusted ass. He's a man who knows how to win a decision which should play well against Mizugaki but yeah. Vexing question. Elite talent, effectively a career-ending injury that carved out three prime years, makes a comeback thanks to the miracles of modern medicine, how do you bet his first fight back against a non-can? You don't is the correct answer but if he opens cheap, I will.

I can understand why they run those ultra-thin PPVs since so much of their revenue comes from commercial sources (bars, etc) who will buy every one but too much garbage dilutes fan interest. Some of these cards, I just check the results on Wikipedia the next night which probably explains why I'm on the verge of my first losing year ever. I don't keep up with who's doing what, how they look in the ring, etc like I used to.
Ron_Mexico 4,219
Not so fast on the bar revenues. Fewer and fewer bars are showing them. Hello, the local Tilted Kilt even stopped carrying the fights. The UFC charges an arm and a leg to those places, plus an extra leg if they have a ton of seating. When I first moved up where I live just outside of Orlando, there was about 11 places that showed the fights. There 4 left, that I know of.
AmScray 355
That's very interesting. This sort of relentless revenue extraction everything-else-be-damned is what private companies usually do when the owners are preparing for an exit. They've already pawned off some percentage of the UFC to Sheikh Tahnoon (who reportedly took a dump on Arianny Celeste) and they (the Fertittas) were already prepared to sell it (the UFC) once some years ago but changed their mind at the last minute. I wonder if the reason for bulking up so many thin PPV cards is because they're in kamikaze revenue extraction mode and couldn't care less about striking the right balance with the fans because their plans are to be out of the UFC all together at some point in the future and that will be someone elses problem. . That's the sense I get with this. I will quote this post when "I Told You So" time comes.
Ron_Mexico 4,219
The Fertittas are businessmen first, so that wouldn't surprise me. Maybe their casinos are hurting and need the money? But a I bet Dana would keep his 10%, or if not keep it, make sure he stays in charge with a hefty salary, indefinitely. Unless he's burned out. But he seems to revel in the role. I need to google this sheik and pooping.
mrfritz 866
so now it's cormier/jones, sweet.
Theraflu 1,035
Hm. And Cormier hasn't even had the surgery he said he needed. Jonny will just beat the **** out of that leg. I think a healthy Cormier would be a great fight, but a knee injury doesn't bode well against someone who exploits the way Jones does.
AmScray 355
At least Cormier / Jones sets up Cormier / Teixeira.

I think a healthy Cormier would be a great fight, but a knee injury doesn't bode well against someone who exploits the way Jones does. His kicks will probably be very selective. Kicks are a huge liability against high level wrestlers because of they leave you vulnerable to certain takedowns, which is literally all Cormier has in this fight. Whatver 'other level' Joneses TDD may be, Cormiers wrestling is at that level and there is an absolute 0% chance Cormiers plan is to stand and bang with Jon Jones. Freak wrestlers have a very unique ability to use their wrestling skills to essentially prevent a 'fight' from happening and win on points (ala Ben Askren). Cormier will be trying to go that route with Jones. Whether it works or not is to be seen (and is unlikely) but that's how that fight will go. If Cormier by D opens really high, I might take a higher than usual taste of it as a flier bet because of anyone might have the ability to hold down Jon Jones and win a fight on ground squabbling, it's him. It would have to be higher than +800 though.

king_tanner 84
I'm watching ufc tonight and I started to think about what's next for Rory MacDonald. I know Condit has had a few losses lately, but it would be fun to finally get that rematch done. Lombard would also be a good option. Then Ariel Helwani comes on my tv and says it's going to be Tarec Saffedine. Zzzz. They must be trying to give him the easiest path to the winner of the Hendricks vs Lawler/Brown fight. I don't think Saffedine is necessarily a scrub but I don't think he is on Rory's level Edit... Just looked guys up and Condit and Lombard are both on the shelf so I guess Saffedine makes sense
Ron_Mexico 4,219
Lombard got hurt? So who is the 205 that just got training to be a fill in for when DC's knee gives out? I feel like Bones was gonna run over him anyway, but now DC can go the injury root and say he was 50%. Has DC beat anyone great yet? I don't think so
AmScray 355
My personal nickname for Rory Macdonald is Shitworth Baggington III.
AmScray 355
Has DC beat anyone great yet? I don't think so Beating Hendo and Roy and Mir and Barnett is no joke but none of it is in the universe of Jones. Cormier is still an Olympic level wrestler which does bring something new to the picture but Jones is a huge problem with subs. Bader was a pretty damn accomplished wrestler, that's how he dispatched with him. Don't see Cormier winning this.
Theraflu 1,035
I mean, DC's HW Grand Prix was impressive. But he's only had two LHW bouts.

Roy is solid, I'll give you that. Mir is essentially a can his last 3 fights. Barnett is very one dimensional. If he can't get you down, he's got nothing. Don't get me wrong, I was a Mir fanboy and love Barnett's ground work. But are any of Cormier's wins over a current top 10 fighter? I guess since the hw division is so weak, Roy and Silva might me. I mean, DC's HW Grand Prix was impressive. Because of low expectations.
Ron_Mexico 4,219
I would have rally liked to see him fight Rashad. That would have been a real test.
king_tanner 84
Lombard got hurt? I read he was getting surgery on something so I just assumed he was going to be out for awhile (Edit) he was supposed to fight Dong Hyun Kim on August 23 but pulled out due to an undisclosed injury. Whenever a guy like him pulls the "undisclosed" card it makes me think that he is trying to dance around some drug test
king_tanner 84
lol Nick Diaz just signed a 3 fight contract, I hope they drug tested him before letting him sign Yeah I think everyone is on drugs. Ufc is the new Tour de France
Ron_Mexico 4,219
I hope they didnt test him. You know he smoked before he came over. Hell, he has the medicinal card. Sports leagues really need to get over weed. I've never done it, but does being high on weed make you indestructable, like coke or pcp has been known to do? I dont think so. Dont let a dude smoke in the locker room before the fight, but otherwise, who cares. It should be no different than booze. Proceed at your own risk
