Gold Stiffs Wsop Staff

Recommended Posts

I was doing interviews in Vegas and sat down to play some poker. We got to the topic of Gold and the World Series and how everything was in litigation etc. when somone brings up the rumor that Gold tipped "like a millon or sumfin'" after his win.The room mnager, stops, appologizes for interupting the game (it kept going btw) and says that not only was that false, but he COMPLETELY stiffed the whole staff. Wondered if I could get some collaboration here? One thing is reviewable, the WSOP dealer/staff payouts last year were the lowest that had been in a long time...but they had the biggest prize pool every.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they hold back his dough when he won??What do you expect the guy to do, roll off a spare million for the crew even though they weren't going to pay him? After waiting this long to get the money from the tourney he won, I don't blame him one iota for shafting anyone associated with the tourney.

I would be upset about it, but the dealers didn't hold his check. They did thier job and he made $12 million. He should tip.

As a person who's worked in the service industry for about 5 years now, I would be the first person to leave a good tip. That being said, if I won 12 million, I don't think I'd be leaving 1 million for a tip. Maybe 500K or so, but 1 million??? That's a BIG chunk of money, especially since you haven't factored in how much of the 12 is gone to taxes. Just sayin'....

I'd be closer to 100k . 500k is a bit excessive imo.

IMO, I would find out how many dealers there were and how many floorstaff to run this thing then depending on the amount throw and extra $100 - $500 per person. As a few others have said they were supposed to get tipped out of the prize pool, so an extra couple hundred would be good IMO.

I coulda won 100 million at the wsop and not tip a cent. They take so much from the prize for the dealers, floormen and whatever else that all 40+ events make probably 50mill to hand to staff. MORE THEN ENOUGH when you add the entry fees.

So the $600 that me and 8700 other people tipped wasn't good enough for the dealers and floorpeople? How much is the right amount then?

When Harrh's took over they did the right thing....they increased the juice to increase pay for dealers etc...now every year the staff says "The winner of the ME(current name here) stiffed the staff by not tipping"...HEY people you cannot have it both ways...I win the ME you will not be able to buy a large pizza with what I leave..

If the gratuity is added to the check, are you supposed to tip twice? No. If someone wants to great, but they certainly shouldn't be expected to.

Ive played 2 circuit events for the WSOP so far and I can honestly say that If/When I cash at a WSOP sponsored event I will most likely not be tipping extra. I am a very goot tipper but I'm not tipping them when I see them screw over a guy for 4 grand... also.. many of the dealers travel the circuit to deal and though I have developed a somewhat personal relationship with a few of them.. most of them seem to be imcompetent and are focused on other things going around in the room when they should be focused on dealing cards.FWIW I went out to dinner tonight and tipped 30 dollars on a 50 dollar bill.

FWIIWIf I collected 12 million for winning the WSOP ME, I would (honestly!!) leave 2 million for the tip. I would then correct every person that interviewed me or wrote an article about me and tell them I won 10 million, not 12 million.I would go home very happy winning 10 million dollars, thank you very much!

Most of my co-workers think I am crazy to be so generous. I am in no way "protecting my own".

Okay, I'll rephrase this then. 13CARDS is a dealer at a Casino and giving his opinion on what a fair tip is. Fair enough? And I again ask you-if the $600 I paid to enter the tournament (along with 8700 other people) isn't enough what should I expect to have to pay in order to play in an event like this?

Nope!! I am not a dealer nor do I receive tips in my position. I am salaried. Sorry.

here you are correct...partly...not really about a fair tip. I would be happy to win 10 million. Wouldn't you? So, I leave the slush and make a lot of other people very happy too.

If you paid $600 as vig, I guarantee that the dealers did not get all, or even most of this fee. Putting on the WSOP costs Harrahs a ton of cash.

Lets just do the math here.$600 * 8700 = $5,220,000Let's say 1/5 of that is used to tip out the dealers for the sake of argument. So we'll just round it off to $1,000,000.8700 / 9 people per table ~967 dealers for the week. Let's say 1,000 dealers to make it easy and include replacements.$1,000,000 / 1000 dealers is $1,000 for the week for a tip. And most of those dealers aren't working the whole week.Did I miss anything?Point being, if Allen Cunningham or whomever else wants to leave $40K, or anything else, that is great. But no one should be called a stiff for not forking over more. Like I said, the gratuity has been added to the check.Btw I'm a waiter. When I add the tip to a party of 8-12, it's over with. No one can or should be considered a stiff at that point.

Well, when I run SNGs or sats into WPT events, the dealers get 1 vig for the table so adjust your number to 1/10 and we'll round it off to $500 for the week. Maybe good money but ask around town (Las Vegas) and see how many dealers would be happy to get only $500 for the week.
