First High Limit Win

Recommended Posts

The two things that struck me were:1 - playing over your comfort level with a friend's $ is -ev. 2- And sitting in a Private game, scooping a couple of pots and then splitting in less than 2 hours is sorta rude... that is likely why they invited him back. He can just as easily lose his entire stack in the next 2 hour session.

This is the best part of the story, for obvious reasons, well... obvious to myself.
that is funny.i don't care if the story is true or not. good for the OP either way. if he's lying, i've done worse and more pathetic things. if he's telling the truth, congratulations on the cash, but he didn't really explain any great plays that that he made that would lead me to believe he could be a long term winner.the flames in this thread were mild by my account, but they definately could have stood to be funnier.

I think everyone is a little gunshy due to Governator basically locking up a ton of threads earlier. Honestly Im not trying to flame the guy just posted what I thought, sounded a little embelished and braggy.

No wonder people are getting tired of this place. People flame on him because they've never come close to experiencing something like that.
When I first started posting here I thought that some of the regulars responses were mean spirited, but I'm starting to come around. This long *** story is beyond dumb. Even if it's true, none of the hands that he describes are remarkable, they are pretty much no brainers. Nobody could have lost with the cards he was dealt. This talk of playing his best game is bull****. The whole things smells a little fishy to me, just like your sister.

"I had a friend help me out even more and he staked me for half my action, or when I doubled my money I could give him his half back."-Sounds like a pretty crappy deal for your friend, he risks $250 in the hopes of getting his $250 back? Can you forward his email address to me?"I think should I slow play here. I push my chips ALL in"-Are you the George Castanza of poker (playing opposite of how you think you should play)? "I pick up KK on the button. Crazy guy makes it 50$. I make it 200$ to play he calls. Flop comes Ks As 4c. He bets 200$ at me, I think I'm good dbut He could have a flush draw, or he may have called with AA. He smooth call. Turn comes a 4s. Great card for me, great card for him possibly. He moves all in for almost 700$. I think and think. I stutter and say I really think you have j10 of spades, if you had aces you would slow play me from the turn out. I call. I was correct, called the exact hand out."-I'd have put him on quads and laid it down (sw)."What I learned...I think that honestly I had been playing lower limit to long, and that was hindering my game as I was getting a lil bored, and the players at the higher limit seem to me more crisp."-post again when you most likely go broke playing out of your bankroll (had to say it). I hate the uncrisp players at the lower limits.

"What I learned...
If I flop the nuts three different hands against players with the second nuts I will be ahead for the session. Seriously, you flopped a straight with KJ; top and middle set with no flush draw in omaha; middle set in holdem. How could you possibly have not made a huge amount at these limits? OP, these guys are not your friends--they are congratulating you because they know if you keep coming back they will get their $$$ back + your bass boat + your truck. if you are smart you will chalk this up to luck rather than skill and stick with low limits.

Two hands later I pick up 10 10 9 9 all black on Omaha. No raisers pre flop. I call. Flop comes 10h 9c 2d. One guy makes it 40, everyone calls, back to me. I make it 160$. Half the pot. Everyone folds except one guy he raises me the pot. So I re raise him back and I'm all in. Huge pot almost 2k. He shows 2c2h 10d 9d. Hes drawing dead to a flush.
So what happens if another 2 comes out? He mucks in deference to your flop prowess?

To start off with OP, if you going to "FABRICATE" a story like this DO IT RIGHT. I have bolded the "oopsies" you missed. How many 9c are in the deck? If you had 10 10 9 9 all black then the flop could not have had the 9c could it.Other than that, if it were true, you just got lucky. They want you to come back for obvious reasons.
This hand gave me a flashback to a home game hand 2 years where I got it all-in with 99 on a A99A board and my opponent had AA. The river was the miracle 5th 9. We dealt from the blue Kem deck and flopped from the green Kem deck. :club:

Any hand containing a suited pair is automatically the nuts. Did you let the action astand, or did you re-flop from the red deck?

Okay I just turned 21 here a few months ago, So I have been going to the local casinos fairly regularly until a month ago. I bought a new bass boat, and a new truck with my winnings over the last 5 months. I prob won upwards of 15k. I have a great job, steady, good benefits and secure, but after buying that stuff I haven't played as much. Well there has been a new game going on with some rich farmers, old doctors, and lawyers . I had been hearing about. I finally got the itch to play. I will admit I was worried about buying in for almost 500$ but I felt that I had enough skill I would succeed if I played my normal tight agressive style. I had a friend help me out even more and he staked me for half my action, or when I doubled my money I could give him his half back. I was a lil nervous because the lowest stack was about 1.3k. I folded the first 4 hand of hold em and picked up a KJ suited on the BB. First to act made it a flat 25$ to play 5 callers, came back to me I figured that I should call with the pot being 150$ I'm getting good odds to call. Flop comes down A Q 10 no flush draw. I flop The Nuts! Original raiser makes it 100$ one guy calls rest fold back to me....I think should I slow play here. I push my chips ALL in...raiser thinks for about 5 minutes calls, other guy folds. He shows A 10 two pair. Turn 9, River 4. I collect a huge pot. Around a thousand dollars. I pay my friend back his half and he is excited for me. So I have around 800 dollars in front of me. Turn 4, Rivers 4. I win another huge pot. I'm up to about 2400 at this point. I hang loose for about 30 minutes back to hold em. I pick up KK on the button. I call. I was correct, called the exact hand out. Rivers Qh. I have almost 4100$ infront of me now. I win a couple more small pots and I'm at 5k, in less than 2 hours. I finally call it quits and cash out. To my suprise everyone congratulated me shook my hand asked me to comeback, and told me I was a great player. I figured after busting 2 players out that may not be the case. What I learned...If I would played scared I may have lost $$ . Knowing I had the ability to hang with these guys was what kept my play at my best and heled me win. I also didn't let the $$ get to me and hang around to long. This is the most I have won so far, and was big boost to my bankroll. However, I made a Baloon payment on my truck so now I dont owe but a few thousand on it. I think that honestly I had been playing lower limit to long, and that was hindering my game as I was getting a lil bored, and the players at the higher limit seem to me more crisp. Thanks for reading, Thoughts comments are welcome.U won 15k, but worried about buying in for $500. :club:

Am i the only one who noticed that this "High Limit" game was only 2/5?
:club: I play it often and a good amount of money can swing around but it definitely isn't high limits. I doubt the story is fake, he seems genuinely happy with himself so congrats on your big win, have fun with the money yadda yadda. My fav part of the whole thing is the subtitle, "My Story...for you" For me?!?!?! I've been waiting for this story!

I mean you can go ahead and flame me all you want. I honestly don't care.I will be the first to admit that yeah It didn't take a whole lot of skill to play the nuts. I go to collegeand for a college student 500$ is a lot of money. That is a boat payment for me. I manage my moneywell so If I do take a big hit I'm covered ,but **** happens you can't control sometimes outside of poker. My friendwho provided me the buy in has always told me I can just pay him his back if I ever want to. If I get up big. He has a ton of money. So he doeson't care if I lose or win.5-10Pl omaha is a pretty high stakes for me. I usually just play 1-2nl or 2-5nl. The point wasn't to brag about my winningseven if I may have came off that way. You can take my word for what its worth. I have no reason to lie to someone behind a computer screens. My Fulltilt era was a dud. I have never played well on the internet. The last time I played on their I cashed out a lil over 600$ from a 100$ deposit, and that was my best run. I won a couple hundred bucks, but I prob came out near even or on the losing end. My point was really this, what was your first time moving up to a higher limit like? I have no ego, If I lost 1500, I'd let ya know about it.I'm not a great player, but I think I can handle my own.

I still want to know how the opponent with 22xx was drawing dead to a flush on a T92 flop. By your calculations, there are two large pots that I lost at Full Tilt with top set against bottom set that I would really like back.

The other two had been mucked by another player after the flop. What else do you want? My Social Security #
