Poker Magazines

Recommended Posts

There are several paper poker magazines out there; Bluff, Card Player, Poker Pro etc. etc. I wonder which ones you would recommend and why - and likewise which ones to stay clear off. I realize that most if not all the material can be found on-line, but it can be hard to read on a business trip, in bed, waiting for the dentist etc. etc. so I was looking for a recommendation or two.If this has previously been discussed I would appreciate a pointer ...Thank YouErasa

I subscribe to Card Player. They could do many things much better but I don't think there's a good alternative out there.Bluff MagRag had super potential to take on Card Player but chose to focus on gossip. They are the People magazine of the poker world. The only good thing about Bluff is that they have Michael Craig writing for them each month.

I recommend American Poker Player Magazine, not because it's any good, only because I got mentioned in one issue. Other than that it's pretty average. It is free, though, so you can always try it.

Bluff has much more stuff about internet players and such. CP has a lot of older writers talking about how to play 7 card stud.

Cardplayer & Bluff are the only good poker mags out there IMO.
QFTThis month's Bluff though had a really bad picture of Jennifer on the cover, but some nice ones inside. Whomever picked the cover is blind.

I was mostly kidding. It's not a terrible magazine, but the price is right ($0). It has an occasional interesting article, but it's not a must-read.I got mentioned twice, the second time by name. I attended WPT Boot Camp, and got to know a reporter in the class from American Poker Player magazine, so she included me in her followup stories on the camp. Jul/Aug 2006, indirect mention, Sep/Oct 2006 by name (with a quote, yet!)

Such beautiful commentary on what Bluff Ragazine is all about. NH

i like bluff because of the articles by the pros. unlike cardplayer where the articles are about poker, the articles in bluff by tilly, esfandiari, and laak may be about poker, but not how to play the hand. they are funny and interesting stories
