Montana 0
I keep reading about and meeting so many so called young poker professionals in brick and mortar places in todays new poker world that are under 26 years old.I am wondering how many of you out there in the 18-26 age group have "emptied out" playing poker? How do you youngsters "replenish" your bank rolls when empty? How much time do you spend playing poker? What limit/level of poker do you play? Cash games or tournaments?Does the pressure of the possibility of internet poker closing down in the US make you go to a brick and mortar house to play?Would appreciate some honest answers...no flamers...just concerned about the future. I would not call myself a professional yet, but I am a very solid player and my results at the high stakes B&M cash games prove that. I have never gone broke completely, but when I was 19 or so, going around to local home games and grinding it out, I did take some pretty big (1k-4k) bankroll hits. Those hits took place mainly because I wasn't nearly as experienced or well rounded as I am now. I have a bankroll now of around 30k thats liquid. I don't play online nearly as much anymore simply because I like live play so much more as I believe it is the "essence" of poker. I go to school full time and am in my 2nd to last semester. When i'm not studying or sleeping, im playing poker at the local casino in Milwaukee and the limits I play are 3-5 NL or if they are spreading either the 10-20 or the 30-60 limit game at my casino i'll play in those too as they can be very juicy with plenty of fish to profit from.Hope that somehow answers your questions. checkymcfold 0
i went nearly broke twice, but sucked it up and came back from a <1k roll both times. the first time, i won a few tourneys to come back. the second time i just ground myself back to a reasonable roll with rakeback, bonuses, etc. it ain't fun, but you do what you gotta do.fyi, most of the "young pros" you see in the b&ms are either not really pros or severely underrolled. i knew of 10-15 20-somethings who were playing 10/20 LHE or 20/40 on a <5k roll and considered themselves professional. Abbaddabba 0
If i was to guess what percentage of people who consider themselves to be "pro" have gone broke at some point, i would probably have guessed close to 100% if it wasnt for the fact that i havent.

THE_ANDYAA 0
I've busted a few times. To recover, unfortunately I just go back to working at a regular job until I feel like I have enough money to play again comfortably. I feel lucky enough at this stage of my life to be able to go broke and bounce back a few months later because as it stands now, I don't have anyone to take care of other than myself. kkcountry 0
i don't have another source of income, so i'll never go busto. i can't afford it. i've got no shame and i'll go down as far as i have to in order to build back up.
a__thekevlar__2 0
the only times ive ever been broke were when i wasnt a winning player and I didn't know anything about bankroll management. using proper br management i think its very hard for a profitable player to go bust. If i ever went bust now I would not redeposit cuz it would mean there was something wrong with my game and I was no longer a profitable player. If I did have to empty my roll for some sort of emergency or something, im sure lots of people that I've met through poker would be willing to back me to get me back on my feet. litlebullet 0
A year and a half ago put in my birthday money at party poker. That was 40 dollars, and then cashed it and transfered to prima to try a campaign of bonus whoring. I busted out of that one trying to clear a 50.00 bonus with $80. I ended up clearing the bonus, but then lost that 50. So I dropped back down to freerolls and play chips for another couple of months, just practicing, you know, nursing the 1.00 I won at AP, winning some clothes from their freerolls, and stuff like that. Only once I got to college did I start getting some real allowance from the parents, so I ended up playing with that. At first, I cashed 200 when I ran well at Omaha hilo, but that didn't last, lol. So I think I ended up spending that 200 dollars and took a break and went back to freerolling. Only now do I have the ability to crush low limit holdem and pretty much any low limit game and cash a little something something in freerolls. 3 months ago I won 4 dollars in a freeroll, and built that up by winning a tourney for 400 dollars. Built it to around 1k, cashed out half of that and during the winter break, when I was bored out of my mind, and pannicking about the state of internet poker, I took a huge shot up, lost 250 playing 1/2 PLO, and then took the rest of that and learned an expensive little blackjack lesson So..... with no neteller, I have no way to deposit any more money and my parents have flat out told me NO CREDIT CARD!!!!!!!!!!!!. But... I just won .80 cents on the freeroll at this site, and now it sits at 56.60 3 days later and that's why you guys will hear from me haha. And that's my meager poker career as of yet, I hope it can only get better. Nice topic btw.
TB17 0
If you roll is 5K .........your not a PRO!first off nice spellingsecond off, what does having a certain BR have to do with being pro? If he pays the bills and poker is his income, then he's a pro. Although I'm pretty sure checky whores himself out to pay the bills, so maybe you are right. thirdly, im not a pro, but i haven't gone broke. I don't ask people for money/stakes. jmkiser 0
I started playing the game when I was 18. I didn't ever dream of serious play or providing a living at that point. Went to college and played on the side... mostly losing poker, but it was ok because it was fun, cheap, and I had a minimum wage job while I was at college.Since then, I've tried 4 different degrees and dropped out 2 years later because of the failing interest/failing grades curve. Since I was 16 years old, I've been through 12 different jobs of all hourly ranges from 5.50 to 14.25.Out of college, I'm currently attending a career counselor to look into possible future opportunities so I can go back to college and I've been studying the game of poker which is the only thing that has actually stuck with me over these tested times. According to my records, as of the beginning of last summer is when I started to play winning poker. Due to my age and lack of responsibility (which is nice), I've made one real attempt at poker as a job and went broke due to starting without a large enough bankroll. Since then, I've continued to study the game and are back to building a roll to make a second attempt. Personally, I'm scared at what is going on in the poker world today and what kind of effects it's going to have, but my ignorance, confidence, intelligence, and determination are just high enough to keep plugging away at my dream ;-)I guess I have the findings of a career counselor to fall back on? :: shrugs :: we'll see
