I do think it was and is rude, even if accompanied with a ...which brings up an interesting question......if you accompany even the most rude comment with a is it then considered OK?link? And you all have WAY more fun flaming than you do writing about poker anyway. Isan't that right? Its really just disrespect. You've decided that this is your forum to screw with people and you're gonna do just that. And its gonna be that way until/unless they really do crack down.And I'm sure this will get me flamed, but I doubt anyone will actually prove it to be incorrect.not true in the slightest. Its a catch-22 really and I know that more often then not, I'm the one on the firing line. If I don't do something, then I'm not doing my job right, and when I do something that some people may not like, I'm a friggin nazi. Things aren't nearly as bad right now as they were over the summer and were in late spring last year, but I am still very annoyed that crap like last night happens in threads like that. Its the same way I felt about the Blair Rodman fiasco. You see though, its a no-win situation and the problem is, is that this place is way undermodded. I know that Doug is never around because he's still dealing with his hacking that happened over the summer and everyone else does what they can. Its hard when only three of us are ever around 70% of the time combined and with teh size of the place now I find that we are more under moderated then when DN created more mods back in nov of 05. I've modded this site now for two years come july(weber made me a hidden mod when he went to the WSOP) and personally I'm probably more overwhelmed then I have been at any point. Its a whole bunch of things that also has to do with personal situations on several fronts and trying to moderate this site in a unbiased and fair manner in the way that I see fit, and some of the time it doesn't come close to what certain people think this site should be, but I will say outside of two decisions that I have made in my 19 months of modding, I feel that I have been correct on every single one. C'est la Vie. I'm off my highhorse right now, but I want people to know where I'm coming from. If they choose to believe me or not, that's up to them Link to post Share on other sites

checkymcfold 0 Posted January 25, 2007 Share Posted January 25, 2007 i'm not sure about what happened the other day so i'm hardly qualified to say anything about that and won't.in general, though, i think the line between "funny" flames and "mean" flames isn't as fine as some people have made it out to be in this thread, and i think that lumping the two together and banning them in a similar fashion would be a detriment to the forum as a whole. while i don't flame people myself, it's mostly due to the fact that i'm just not especially funny when i try that sort of stuff, and i think the forum would be better off if a few people were able to make the same judgment about their ability to make people laugh in a flamewar. but when i read others' flames, they honestly make me laugh a lot of the time and i'd hate to have that stop entirely. do i think that sometimes people go over the edge? yes, of course. but i also think that isn't the case all the time, and it's part of the job of a moderator to decide on a case by case basis whether a post has crossed that invisible line.simply, that's a tough ****ing job and i'm not envious of those who have to do it. the moderators here do a great job imho, and i don't think that anyone who has ever moderated a forum in the past (i have a couple times) would be able to say otherwise. if it's decided that the forum needs more moderators, then fine, get some more, but i'd be the first person to come to the defense of the job done by the ones we have right now.as for the strat forums, to be honest, i wouldn't like to see them changed at all. there's been talk of merging various forums so that more people see them, but i think that most of what that would accomplish would just lead people who know little about a game to put their two cents in and lead people astray. most of my strat posts are in o8 (and a bit of 2-7 now), and i don't think very many people realize what great poker minds we actually have on this forum. again, i'm only speaking for the o8 forum here, but i can say pretty confidently that the level of discussion in our o8 forum beats 2+2 in a LOT of threads. i lurk over there, and while there is certainly a greater number of accomplished o8 players on 2+2, there is also a greater number of people who think they know what they're talking about when they don't. imho, that does more harm to a strategy section than having too many specialized forums for different games, limits, whatever. i've mentioned a couple times that i actually think that the ways one should think about LO8, SHLO8, and PLO8 are different enough to warrant different forums, even. i'm not a specialist in very many other games, so i'm not sure if that sort of idea would apply to other forums as well. in any case, all i mean to say is that having a forum that requires a couple more clicks to navigate isn't such a bad thing.i also don't want to see the general forum go anywhere. it's a good balance between off topic and really specialized poker discussion, and it's also a good place for newcomers to become acquainted with the fcp atmosphere. yes, that includes genuine poker discussion, flames, and idiocy alike. i REALLY like that some people have started occasionally posting strat hands in general in order to let it be more known that real poker discussion does happen here, and i will probably start doing the same (though i rarely make new strat topics, either--i prefer to just respond). some of the best strat discussions i've ever seen, on fcp or otherwise, have actually happened in general. moreover, general is a good place for people that are new to poker to ask pretty basic questions. and that's fine--we all used to be green with respect to poker, and it behooves the more seasoned among us to respond genuinely to those "easy" questions in a straightforward and honest manner.the bottom line is that, for me at least, fcp is a pretty good balance of personality and content, and that's why i make my posts here and not over at 2+2. i, for one, don't want to see that change, and the idea that any flamepost=instaban might make that disappear. moderators are around to make specific judgments about specific cases, and i fully trust them to do that. of course i won't agree with all of their decisions with regard to specific cases, but i shouldn't expect to. i think too many people think that they should be able to agree with what moderators do sometimes and disagree with them at other times and that thereby the moderators are doing a bad job. they aren't. they're people that have to make judgment calls, and i appreciate the fact that they're around.this is all, of course, just one opinion, but i thought i'd say my piece. Dogpatch 2 Posted January 25, 2007 Share Posted January 25, 2007 I'm not begging for a job, but why doesn't the staff look at appointing more mods?Every other forum I've been a part of has Admins, Super Mods and Mods. Admins have free reign, Super Mods usually have large sections of the forum and Mods usually just have a very small section to maintain. The guys who are very active in Strat should be considered for those Strat sections. The guys who are active in General (OT and Gen Poker) should be considered for those areas. And so forth. Not always, but mostly. Most probably wouldn't admit it, but I'd bet it's the same for others as well.I think poker forums, especially ones like this that are smaller communities, are different than most forums in that sometimes the very thing we come here to talk about is a freakin sore subject.FCP is a great place for many reasons and I thank everyone who makes it great.
