A Donkey For Betting The Low?

Recommended Posts

At pokerstars I had a good starting hand in a cash game. there was a raise preflop. 4 others called. I flopped the nut low, and led out and bet it. I generally don't do it everytime as i mix it up, but there was alot of action in the pot. mind you it was only 50 cent blinds, but I wound up taking a big pot by splitting with only one person. One of the guys that lost told me I'm a donkey for betting the low. He said you should "never" bet the low. Am I right in this? Or am I a donkey? I tend to have a consistant win streak by playing my way, but I'd like to know what some others think of this.

he is a moron. im trying to think of some good general advice about this and im coming up short. one thing is that there are five players in the pot, so you actually profit if they all call. if there are four you break even. so consider that. i will also say that if you should be betting the nut low just about anytime everybody has checked to you.if youre unsure about a hand post it, best way to get advice.

The way the tables have been On-Line since the Ban I Never Bet with the Lo if I am 1st in on the Flop. Now a days you have so many players that will Raise and re-raise their whole stacks with Lo or a Lo draw, So being 1st in it leaves you scratching your head what your up against. I will CK Call 90% of the time and then see what the turn brings. You will get a 50-50 view on this and I know that most of the old timers will say they Never Bet on the Lo at any time.with the Raise pre-flop you have to be thinking AA, A2 so with the Lo flop I would have checked to See what the orig Raiser does, He cks also I would then Bet on the T. You are Definetly not A Donk for this Move, you know that is the 1st words out of peoples mouths now when they lose. even More when the Hand they raised on never should have seen the flop to begin with. It is also amazing how O/8 never was a pre-Flop Raise Game it was always Post Flop,Now with all the hold-em players turning to O/8 it has turned to a Pre flop Raise Fest :club:

Richard:in the future please use paragraphs as it makes it much more easy it read. i read the above as crazy :D rambling w/ very little effort directed to help the original question. perhaps the use of space and directed thought could clear this up.OP:i think the easiest way to help you would be to refer you to the LO8 guides at the top of the O8 section. no poker game has hard and set rules and omaha is no different. there are no set times when you should bet w/ the low or not, only situations in which you feel it is correct or not. those guides will help you to get a better feel for when it is correct. for further reading, i recommend ray zee's book.i would say in most low limit O8 cash games it is nearly almost always correct. after thousands of hands you'll feel when you can bet with second or even third low and when it would be crazy to bet with just the low.also, don't be intimidated by the other players at the table. 80-90% of players are long term losers, yet 90% feel like giving advice at the table. what does that tell you? i find that patronizing the people who berate you is the funnest way to deal with it.ex: villian: you suckhero: i know, i just had a feeling that timevillian: you really suckhero: can you teach me? raise 2489 UTG like you?villian: f youhero: but i like you. why can't we hold hands?goodluck
