Brag post time. Lots of people saw pictures of Malkin practicing and Fleury in his new pads but I just saw them in person during a closed practice.     I was down at the arena to get my security

Yes I agree that Crosby kids gotta go. Can I interest you in a phaneuf?

JapersRink ‏@JapersRink · 20m Really looking forward to Dan Bylsma being either an idiot who can't win with Sid or a genius who can win without a bottom-6 after tonight.

Ya, if you go 4 blocks east you hit the National Arts Center. You can either go ~5 blocks south and there's Elgin or go 5 block north - north/east to the market. Market is more fun / by far better dinning, but clubs are somewhat young. If that's too far, you can go 1/2 block north and head right a few blocks (on Sparks). It's a pedestrian mall that has a few interesting places to eat (but a bit quiet at night)Casino Lac-Leamy (note the frenchified name) is prob 5-10? minutes by car

Right downtown. If you head up to Wellington (the street Parliament is on), and go East, you'll run into the Market, which is where I live, and where all the good stuff is.Give me a call or text, if you still have my number, and we'll go for a beer or something with fewer calories. :club:

Mellon Arena Memories:I've been lucky enough to watch 5 games at the Igloo in my life, on 3 different trips to Pittsburgh. My first trip was in March of 1999, when I was 14 years old. My Dad decided to take me there as my Christmas present. The first game was a 2-2 tie with the Oilers. Robert Lang scored to tie it midway through the 3rd, and OT solved nothing. German Titov had 2 assists. Jagr and Kovalev each chipped in an assist. Petr Skudra got the start, as Barrasso was injured. Darius Kasparaitis blew out his knee in this game, as well. If I recall correctly, this was Paul Stewart's return to the NHL as a referee after battling cancer. The second game was a 3-1 loss to the Avalanche. The most memorable play in that game was a Jaromir Jagr breakaway clear from center. The entire rink stood in anticipation. Jagr went backhand on Craig Billington and had an open net, but the Avs goalie recovered and made one of the best saves of the 98/99 season as he reached back with his glove. Martin Straka scored the only Pens goal, with assists from Titov and Kovalev. The Pens held the 1-0 lead going into the 3rd, but Joe Sakic and Milan Hejduk scored to give the Avs the lead, then Claude Lemieux scored into an empty net to seal it up.My second trip occurred in Sidney Crosby's rookie season. After the draft, my Dad once again decided to take me to Pittsburgh, this time to see Sid and Mario together. Unfortunately, Mario was forced to retire midway through the season, so I never got to see him play. We did, however, see two amazing games. Despite having a dreadful year, the Penguins managed to win both games that we saw.My 3rd game at Mellon arena was a thorough beat down of the Devils. 6-3 final with Sid the Kid earning first star honors with 2 goals and an assist. Ryan Malone, Michel Ouellet, Andy Hilbert, and Colby Armstrong had the other goals. MAF got the win. Here's what made it even more memorable, though. Possibly the best goalie of all time, Martin Brodeur gave up 6 goals on 16 shots and was pulled early in the second. The 4th game was against the hated Flyers, an afternoon tilt the next day. Colby Armstrong opened the scoring in the 1st, and the Penguins took the 1-0 lead into the 3rd, where Army notched his second of the game. The third period was intense though. Andre Roy decided to lose his mind and attacked Denis Gauthier about halfway through the 3rd. This resulted in 27 PIMs for Roy, and a 7 minute PP for the Flyers. The Pens killed the whole thing off and held on for the 2-0 win. MAF took the win, and Sid got 2 assists. My final trip to the Igloo was during the 2009 playoffs, with my girlfriend. Game 1 of the conference finals against the Carolina Hurricanes. A nice 3-2 win with goals by Satan, Geno, and Boucher. Fleury made a ton of sick saves right in front of us, and they held off a late push by the Canes to win.Unless I make another spontaneous trip this spring, this will be the legacy that Mellon Arena has left for me. Will definitely miss the old barn. Such an amazing place to watch a game. So many awesome memories.

Nice writeup Zach, that was a cool read. I'm glad I got to see a game at the Igloo during my lifetime, but I regret not coming with you last year for the semi's.ps- Having read your stories, I realize I miss ties. Id love to see them go back to ties and get rid of these shootouts.
