Where Did Your Bankroll Start?

Recommended Posts

so very soon I am going to be depositing some money online to make an attempt at starting my first serious bankroll. I am going to try to deposit about two to three hundred and grind out the micro stakes tables till I build an adequate bankroll for 1-2 and 2-4 nl games. I was curious as to how much most people deposited before they made a significant bankroll? and also how many people here are winning players? I have not played much online. only deposited and lost 100 when I first learned how to play the game. so hopefully I can start with only a small first time deposit.

It started with $50 on FT, then another $50 ... then $50 on stars ... then free $100 on PP ... then numerous freerolls sngs my friend gave me where I kept half of what I made in the sngs. The last one was $150 after I won $350 in a freeroll sng. I've not looked back since although there have been a couple of close calls.

I'm currently playing 3/6 and 5/10nl, but I'm rolled for 10/20, possibly 25/50nl. My roll is the product of 50 dollars that my freshman college roommate transferred me 2 years ago. The point is, play withing your roll, whatever you deposit, and you can turn your measly deposit into 6 figs in not that long a time. Good luck and godspeed.erac

multiple $200 deposits adding up to about 2600 before i had a score. havent deposited since last febuary. I recomend putting time into researching and reading while you are playing and not just when your broke and waiting to get another deposit together.

Played play money games for a while, then started off with $10 free on Royal Vegas Poker. Ran it up to $26, but forgot my account number and had to start over. Logged on to my brother's account and played a $1 tournament. Won that for $154, then transferred it to pokerstars. Was a very slightly winning micro limit player for a few months and always played within my bankroll. Over these months I ran my roll up to about $280. Then FCP launched its poker room. I cashed 2nd in the FCP booya tournament for $1500. I was unprepared for any meaningful sort of bankroll and played way above my limits. Unfortunately, I hit a hot streak and got up to $2500. I was overconfident and thought I would continue to win. One night I lost more than I was comfortable with and tried to win it back. I moved up to 2/4nl and lost some more. By midnight I had $658 and change left. I realized that I would probably lose the rest if I continued. I withdrew $600, and decided I would rebuild from $58. About 6 months later I'm back to around $1000, and playing a lot more poker than before. I am also becoming a much more controlled, less impulsive player, and it has resulted in me finally feeling assured that I am a winning player and can be at higher limits once I get the roll. I don't plan on taking any more shots because I know I can increase the bankroll quickly without them. Overall I'm up about $1600 online plus $100 to $200 against friends. That's over about two years, so its not anything to brag about, but I think it will be a lot higher in the next few months. I am playing a lot more, I have improved a lot, and I am purchasing a dual monitor setup so I can play 8+ tables.I think some of my success can be attributed to the fact that I am underage. I am not able to deposit my own money into poker accounts so I CANNOT go broke. This is why I was able to build my remaining $58 back up, and iit is why I have almost always played within my bankroll. I also attribute a lot of my success to Smasharoo. I read his $50 to $1000 posts right as I was becoming interested in poker, and learned the importance of bankroll management from him.

Multiple small deposits here and there a few years ago. Haven't been busto for about a year now. Lifetime I'm up about 1.5k as a low limit guy...so my spreadsheet tells me.

1000 x 50 = $50 000 bankroll at least? Good job.

Lets see.Bankroll started with 20 bucks on pokerroom from a friend who owed me money. After that, endless small deposits to random sites. I suck at poker.Saving up to make one big deposit, and make one last hur-rah at trying to make some money playing

$50. learn to beat the lower levels and move up in levels as your SKILL warrants, don't just keep throwing $500 on at a time trying to beat the $50 sngs or whatever, just start low and work your way up. it shouldn't take very long to build a significant bankroll at micro limits if you are fundamentally sound enough to beat the low/mid limits.

This should end well. Please report back.

A couple different $50 deposits on Pacific a few years ago. Eventually built it up to about $400 which I cashed out and moved to Party. Which I then moved to FCP. Which I then moved to Full Tilt. I had it up to about $1500 after a really good 3 or 4 months. I then withdrew all but $100 of it to put towards my engagement ring I just got for my girl (and yes, the ring was more than $1400). Now I'm starting all over again at the beginning.

Make sure to take advantage of deposit bonuses and get rakeback ! Good luck !
What he said. I started out with $50 or $100 on Party Poker. Then deposited $100 or $200 at Pacific to get a free poker chipset. Spent a lot of time playing the various Prima skins, playing mostly breakeven poker and adding the deposit bonuses to my roll so I could eventually max out the deposit bonuses at the larger sites. Was able to cash out the $250 or so of deposits and get the wife off my back and tell her I'm playing on profits now, as well as the occasional withdrawal to pay the odd bill.

It's actually what she said, but yeah. Finz is right, bonuses and rakeback are important.

Started cash tables by selling play money chips. Sold 1 million play money chips for $12.50 almost 1 year ago. Just recently reached my goal of crossing the $1k mark. I grinded out the micro tables, 6-max, and moved up to higher stakes as my BR allowed. Now I tend to play $25nl and $50nl, fullring, but have recently been testing the waters at 1/2 limit and $100nl ($100nl is way outside my BR, but I've been very successful there, I wouldn't suggest this with $1k BR).I would argue I'm a winning player, not just because I've managed to build a workable BR from $12.50, but also because I can win (have won) playing outside my BR.

Initial $50 on Party about 3 years ago. Built it to $700 or so in 6 months and cashed it all out thinking I was pretty smart, no idea what 'bankroll' meant. Played live exclusively until 1.5 years ago when I realized how much money I was missing out on online. Deposited $200, went to various sites getting deposit bonuses (total $800+ in bonuses in 3 months). Played full ring LHE, started at .50/1.00 worked my way all the way to 5/10 and higher, took shots as high as 40/80, also plenty of tourneys. Now play exclusively 6-max NL and tourneys. Finally have a legitimate roll after cashing out 20k+ last year.

I deposited 25€ on a rather obscure sports betting/poker site, ran that up to 600€ without any understanding of the game by playing way out of my bankroll (had no idea about that at the time), cashed out, when I got down to 100€ again. Then I got 5$ for free on Pokerstars, grinded super-micro LHE and the lowest buy-in sit&gos, moving up continually as my as my bankroll got bigger. It's much more fun for me to play within my bankroll - even if the money is ridiculous - not having to worry about going broke, and I can really see my improvements in the game as I slowly move towards amounts of money that are somewhat meaningful.
