Calling An Allin On The Bubble In Sng?

Recommended Posts

Ok. lets say its gotten down to four handed. You're in the BB. and the blinds are 200/400 on pokerstarsBB(Hero) - 2400SB - 2600Button - 8000CO - 900it gets folded to SB ( somehow button doesn't feel like pushing), and he shoves, which is standard. What should your calling range be considering that his pushing range is literally any 2.

really...i think my range is 10 10 +, since he's pushing any 2, so that means there's a chance he has two unders or only 1 overcard. What if you did fold...and the next hand u get is 10 5, and it gets folded to you.

Stars STT's are 9 handed.Starting chips are 1500 eachSo total chip count would be 13,500You are either fabricating the hand or Stars changed their structureps. Deliverance is on TV now. What a moviedueling banjos scene right now...

Call with AA or KK only. There's lots of math to back it up if you need to see it...
yeah, I do.Good luck ever convincing me tha we can't call with more than KK+I'd like to know how aggressive SB has been, too.But Shortie is not so short that we must fold any two with 200/400 blinds

This is the point. The CO here has barely 2 BBs. He's almost certainly all in on one of the next two hands with a random hand, against the strongest of 3 hands.Your goal in an SNG is to make the money first and foremost. My calling range is TINY when the sb shoves on me here.

I put these numbers into sng power tools and if the Sb is shoving 100% of hands here your calling range should be 66+,ATo+,A9s+,KJs+ (top 10%). If you increase the Sb's pushing requirements to the top 50% of hands. Your range drops to 99+,AQo+,AJs+ (top 5%)

You'd be surprised how often he gets a walk.Everyone knows if they call the BB, they may play for 900, a lot of the times. We are not ahead enough to fold everything to a thinking SB.

yes. the hand is hypothetical...and to the poster that used SNG power tools. That really surpirsed me, that even if his pushing range is 50%, it gives us a lot of hands that is +EV to call with, yet people say u should be calling with high pockets only.

If you put him loose = 22+,A2+,K2+,Q2s+,Q6o+,J7s+,J9o+,T8s+,98s your calling range is 99+,AKo,AQs+If you put him on any two your calling range is 77+,AJo+,ATs+,KQsIf you make him tight 66+,ATs+,AJo+ your range is QQ+(those stacks dont quite add up to 13500 but i used them anyway)The reason it isnt as tight as some think with a short stack on the bubble is because winning this hand puts you in the drivers seat for 2d, instead of waiting to back into 3rd and then fight for 2d.Using the "any two" (which is the correct range for him to push), you have a 70% chance of winning. If you fold you have 22% equity in the prize pool. If you win it jumps up to 35%. .7*35%=24.5% > 22%

Most people in the small blind in this situation shove with ATC. I call with a wide range of hands (say, 77's or better and any two face cards). Yes, sometimes you lose. But, when you win you have enough chips to make a strong push for first. If the SB is tight, then I fold all but premium pairs and AK. Also, if the chip leader is very good, I might fold a lot more hands figuring I have less chance of winning even if I double up.Everyone has their own strategy. I don't think folding (say 99 or KQs) is a horrible strategy, but I don't think it is the most profitable one either. Just play well within your bankroll, play many SNG's per day, and you'll be fine.

Our goal is to win, but I think you do so by playing solid poker here. My range? Depending on the SB's image to me (whether he has been moving in alot or if it's sparingly), I'd call with AA-JJ, AKs and AKo. If I was in a gambling mood and this player had been moving in ALOT on me, also include 88-10's, AQs, AQo, and mayyyyyybe AJs (but only if he's been relentless doing it); but that's only if I had a more concrete read and if I really wanted first.Since the cutoff is so low, I'd want to attack him when he's in the BB with ATC as supposed to this villian, who has us covered. That's the safest play to make the money, but not for 1st

welcome back! hope things are going well!
thank you!Actually, I've been posting more outside of Tourney Strategy again and less overall. (this post got transferred I see)You know how it gets so formulaic in there. Plus, as you know, I've started a new job and am now in Alabama. It's 200x better at this job. Once we sell the house, it'll be pretty awesome.
