Harder To Win On Weekends?

Recommended Posts

I swear the last two weekends have been brutal for me...but moday-friday I have been running great. My bankroll reached an all-time high on Friday and I was all set to play poker all weekend and bring it to even higher levels. Now after about 20 hours of poker this weekend I have lost everything I gained in my great week last week and then some. I'm feeling like **** right now.I'm noticing a trend...my BR goes up monady-friday and goes down again over the weekend. Is it just me? Has anybody else experienced this? And if its just me...what am I doing differently on the weekends?Of course I didnt help myself last night when after losing $300 in tourney buyins over the weekend, when I was tired and on tilt, I went to 2/4 NL (I have never played NL at this level) to get my money back, and I tilted away $300 more. Yeah I suck at life...all the idiots have made this mistake and I knew it, and did it anyway, and that makes me an even bigger idiot.

I have actually noticed the opposite.. I usually trend up on weekends and down durring the weekI figure on the weekends everyone plays, but durring the week it is only the more serious playersI would imagine it would depend on the stakes... I play low stakes.. usually $5-$25 on tourneys, occassionally up to $100 and usually .25/.50 in ring games

I laughed when I saw this topic, because my wife says that i lose only on the weekends and do real good thru the week....except for i have been on a rush the past two weeks taking 500 to 2300, so maybe I just have a horseshoe stuck up my a$$I seem to get sucked out on more on the weekends, but that could always be because there are three times as many donks and I play for twice as long

So does that mean you lose 6 times as much? (refer to signature line)I also notice that the daytime during the week has tougher players. But you are right, the more donks there are on the evenings and weekends, the more suckouts there will be.

I do better on the weekends as well. The only reason I can think of for you doing worse on the weekends is that you probably play less during the week and therefore care and concentrate more then when you play for 8 hours straight on the weekends.

Playing live I make almost all my money on the weekends compared to weekdays. In general the games during the weekdays a t the casinos are a little tighter and generally better/nittier players. On the weekends the recreational gamblers play more and are drinking and having a good time and gambling, this is the best time to crush games. These games should be easier to beat but you have to adjust, its usually abc poker that does the best as in general they are weaker players. Also think about it like this if you love poker and only get to play on the weekends you are going to probably gamble more and try to cram more action with whatever time you got. Whereas if you play all the time you may not be doing this. Also if bad players played every day they would tend more to be broke, whereas if they just played on the weekend they would be able to keep playing while just losing on the weekends.

instead of going up levels on the weekends you should go down. There's where more donks, and you need a solid bankroll to stand off the suck outs. I crush weekends and I stay under my normal weekday stakes.
I agree. A typical 1/2 nl game online seems to play a lot more like a 2/4 game on saturday night. Maybe stand down a level, and play your normal game.

So run away from the donks that are playing your normal game?
I dunno, they're the ones who said that. Personally, I actually do worse on weekends usually too. I think it's a matter of style. If you don't change it up for the donks, you'll be in trouble.

But it's higher when people play like maniacs.
That's completely true using the actual definition of variance, which is something like "deviation from the expected mean." However, the expected mean (our win rate) goes up as our opponents get worse. If a +/-2bb swing against average opponents is analagous to a +/-3bb against worse than average opponents this does not necessarily mean that there will be more negative yields. In this example, if our mean winrate against the average opponents is 2bb/100 and our mean winrate against the worse than average opponents is 4bb/100 these analogous swings will result in a net break even against the average opponents, but still a net win (1bb/100) against the worse than average opponents.I did not explain that well, but I hope it makes sense.lol.
