Is It Just Me Or Does Steve Zolotow Blow At Nlh

Recommended Posts

Is anyone else seeing this? He's got to be the weakest "pro" I've ever seen play NLH. Maybe he's better at other games.
Or maybe Steve had a long night at the Bunny Ranch and wasn't playing his best?!?!?!??!??!?!

Perhaps, but his stories were clearly the best this week ... that's why I watched the show, so I was sad to see him leave.

Agreed. In a winner-take-all format like they are playing, he was unbelievably weak-tight. It was kinda lame how he kept complaining about getting bad cards too.

and you've deduced this from ONE edited poker television show?

I could wipe the floor with that whole table, except maybe Gus because he is a badass. The only player who occasionally bluffed was Gus...By far the best player at the table. Everyone else was just like check, check. Well I check... fold. lol you got me, you hit your man. What horrible playing. The only reason I watch it is because it is the only poker I get on TV (Basic cable, no ESPN or travel channel)I mean there were so many hands that were poorly played that it makes me sick watching it. Something is off, because that is not how any of them normally would (or should) play. I cant believe some of the pots I watched. Sheikan and Seed I think were in a pot. Sheikan raises in position with weak/medium ace... seed calls with like 10,J off Flop comes like 9,9,3 and they both check, turn is a 9, seed checks, and this is shocking, Sheikan CHECKS. How the hell do you not bet? River card gives Seed hits a Jack on the river for a full house and bets it. Then Sheikan has a dumbfounded look on his face like he is getting bluffed, but folds. What bad playing. Astonishing.

Were you expecting more from Sheiky? Can't blame a donkey for being born a donkey. How bout we stick to criticizing the actual poker players on that show.

Yea i was disappointed with Steve Z's play. It was the classic rock in a tourny play. He folded a lot of somewhat quality hands in position because there was a raise in front of him at a six handed table and a very aggro guy. then eventually he get short because the blinds are raisiing up and up and is forced to put it in with a less than premium hand which happens to be crushed. that is the life of a solid tourny player.....I too was shocked to see so little bluffing going on. I can't help but think that the structure had something to do about it though. However, when i think about it it is winner takes all and the blinds did seem to raise pretty quick. I would imagine that ppl would make some pretty risky plays to try and accumulate chips. As it stands it seems like the cards chose who is HU now. I did see a lot of slowplaying of big pocket pairs though and thats about it.

the only two players at the table were gus and seed...annie, shiek, hellmuth and zolotow were just watching. i thought the show as a whole was horrible. way too much bs chitter chatter between shiek and hellmuth, they both suck. i also hated how the players would talk in the middle of a hand when they weren't involved and the other person was trying to make a decision. phil probably annoyed me more than any other person in the show, i hope he gets cancer.

Since there is little to no commentary on this show..I can only quess that NBC has asked the players to chit-chat during play..when Hellmouth went off to the producer about all that talk...the producer could have told everyone to keep it down...but he didn't, which leads me to think thats what NBC wants..

I call BS!I saw the way you played that NLO8 Flippament last night and know for a fact that you have no concept of how the game of poker is played. You should refrain from making these asinine posts without hard facts to back them up.

Steve Z consistently plays pretty weakly in these televised NLHE tournaments. This makes at least three I've seen where he's played weak-tight. I'm not saying that he always plays like this or that he's a bad poker player (he's obviously had good results) or that some of his stories aren't interesting, but he played weakly.

I just think he's an old-school player who never really adapted to the new aggressive era of poker. You don't see him much, so I assume he just plays now for fun, not really to win. I mean, he HAS to know he was being pushed around at the table. That said, I do like the show (even after I was concerned about the lack of commentary in the first ep). It works because it felt almost like a home game between the 6 players, and was fun to watch, even Hellmuth's obviously-staged antics. Even Huck was chatty, and he's always a rock on TV. As long as they keep it like this, and put on people who can make interesting conversation, I'll keep watching.

he played the same style when he was on the wpt.
and if you remember, that was a limit tourny with one guy(hinchcliffe) donklagging off his chips left and right. I'd play pretty weak tight there too and try to move up the money and hope I catch a heater

Annie duke is soooo annoying
So is Zolotow.Seed and Hansen pretty much ran the whole table with aggression, pot control and good decisions. No wonder why they're heads up now. Also my pick was Seed to win and watching them battle heads up later should be fun.
