Etiquette/rule Question: Showing Cards Proir To Making A Decision

Recommended Posts

MY .02100% depends where you playNormally cash games you can expose you cards and they remain live, butwhere i play your hand is dead in a cash game if you expose your cards, even if by accedent. (casino)tournement = penalty (casino)home games = whatever the hell the 'house' says

I think its a nice addition to a cash game. I understand fully why not in a tournament. But in a cash game I think it makes the game even more fun and challenging. In my home game I allow people to show their hands in a heads up pot. I recently was in a hand against a guy that was playing very loose aggressive... basically my game. He was sitting to my immediate left. So the fact that he had position on me was not good for my game!Anyway.. we're in a hand where I'm the SB, he's the BB. Its folded to me, and I decide to raise no matter what my hand. I look down at 2 6 offsuit. I think my raise was about 5 times the BB. He calls almost instantly. The flop comes down 3 4 6. I lead out trying to knock him off his defending hand. He comes over the top of me, but I call with top pair, not putting him on much of a hand. Turn comes a blank, something higher like a ten or a 9. It went check check. River a 5, putting a 4 straight on the board giving me the bottom end of the straight. Now I lead in strong, betting about 3/4 the pot. He comes over the top for about 3 times my bet. I think and think and think. Start talking it through, working out if he was bluffing (like he had been all night) or if he had the straight. I was talking to him as I did this and eventually showed him that I had the straight by turning over my deuce. He said, well I have one of those too.He turned over the deuce and I thought for a second that the only way I was beat if he played deuce seven to a raise and then came over the top of me on the flop with a gut shot straight draw. I decided he couldn't and called. HE turned over the seven and took down the pot.In hindsight I should have realised that he would only turn over the deuce if he had me beat... but hindsight is always 20-20 :PI just think it makes the psychology of the game even more fun!

Monday, 18th of December 2006 04:50 PMOver on table 40, Brian Stahl raised to 8K under the gun. Joe Pecoraro moved his last 28K all in, then Drew Gliem moved all in over the top.
Apparently there was some conversation between Joe and Drew...something like...Drew: "Bad timing...I got a hand that can't be beat."Joe: "you got Aces?"Drew: "yeah"Back to Brian, who calls for the floor. Jack Effel rules that Drew's hand is still live, but when he rolls it over if it is Aces, he will get a 10 minute penalty.
Brian folds (duh) and Joe shows pocket Queens and of course, Drew rolls over pocket Aces. Board was 8 5 3 7 7 and Joe was eliminated on the bubble in 28th place.Clock was paused as the final 27 players redraw seats at the final 3 tables and move to their new seats. Drew's penalty will begin when the clock is resumed.

I can't recall who wrote but i read an article in bluff mag about a year ago about gettin maximum value outta a nut flush. The article talked about if you get a tell from a player who is strong in the hand (ala trips maybe top 2 depending on opp.) and you flop or turn the nut flush(being the nuts at the moment), showing the ace hole card only and making massive overbet. Every home cash game i have ever played we have played that headsup you can show ur cards. The situation has arisen for me twice in the past year and have stacked each player using said method. One guy with KK on jack high board and one guy with top trips.
