Online Legal Jurisdiction

Recommended Posts

i apologize for the additional solicitation for help, but i feel like bodog has just scammed me out of $1600. my account is now "permanently frozen," and it seems the reason is because i have been playing from cananda, where apparently bodog does not have legal jurisdiction. a message declares that "due to jurisdictional legalities, we are unable to permit residents of Canada to open an account at this time." this appears after attempting to sign up with canadien citizenship. yet i am american, maintain american residency, and registered with the site as such. i have however been gambling online from a canadien location. this is their justification for the cancelation of my account, and i was told the money therein "no longer exists." as if money just dissapears... the money that the other players lost to me was real, and i can only imagine that it now rests safely in a bodog offshore account somewhere. do i have any legal recourse here? has anyone else experienced anything like this? three years on party and i never had any problems depositing or withdrawing money. this is truly a bit of a nightmare...

Ugly story, yuck. They have a couple things in their favor:-Their signup T&Cs probably allow them to take your money for virtually any reason they want, and probably also make reference to Canada.-Legal jurisdiction is probably Costa Rica. Good luck.So...IMHO all you've got is the powers of persuasion and publicity. Make a well-documented post without threats or whining, but asking for help/advice at the 2+2 forums. Go to the INTERNET GAMBLING forum. Several industry people read there, so it can't hurt. Ignore trolls/flamers -- there are often "SITE XYZ stole my money!" posts that turn out to be from people "accidentally" colluding with buddies or having accounts temporarily frozen because of player-player money transfers. You may need to escalate and show your email exchanges with Bodog support. Have you tried CALLING Bodog support and explaining and asking for a supervisor? Good luck to you.
