Tournies Or Cash Games?

Recommended Posts

Been playing freeroll tounies for the last year and have just started consistently reaching the final tables. So I now want to start a BR and play for money, my BR will be starting at $50. So should I stay with tournies, or move to low level cash games??

I started by depositing $100. I lost $96 the first night playing 0.10/0.25. My first instinct was to redeposit and try again, but I decided I had things to learn at the lowest cash level. (5 million play chips doesn't prove anything.) I worked my current bankroll up from that $4 playing 0.01/0.02.If I had it to do over again, I would skip the losing $96 part and go straight to the penny game.I think that's a good route. Show yourself that you can beat the penny game first.

i think $0.05/$0.10 is the highest your looking at for now......
Im assuming you play NL, is so this is terrible advice. If I were you I'd wait and deposit $200, take advantage of a 100% sign up bonus and play 10NL. Add a table or two once you get comfortable and play a few thousand hands or so.edit- and if your final tabling freerolls on stars and fulltilt consistently then you may just be the second coming of christ. Seriously. Don't they have like 10,000 entrants every time?

I usually put in 25 to 50 bucks..each time.. In doing so I have lost a little more than 3k in the past year. But i went to the mgm and won 307.00 in about 10 hours at casino poker. I wish i could do that more. I feel more confident and less skeptical when playing in a real table game. I've won and took the top 3 in tons of cash evens unfortunately, they don't pay squat. I have yet to do well in a 20.00 tourney where top prize is a couple grand. I did get 3rd in a 36 dollar sit n go though for 90 bucks win lol I'm trying to give up online poker. I don't know how people who aren't affiliated with the sites do it. I watch this one guy on pokerstars constantly in the money in big money tournies. I think he was in the final table of the pokerstars sunday million 2 weeks ago. pisses me off to see this. All the advice I use from the pros and stuff never gets me to the final table in a big tourney. My best finish for over 1000 people other than 1st round satellites, is a 1202 person freeroll where I won an absolute poker hat for 5th place. Anyhow. Good luck.

Well, I've been playing $.05 / $.10 NL Hold'em cash games and have built my BR by 12%. I'm going to continue these stakes until March, to see whether I'm consistantly winning, then I'll step up.Cheers for the help.

  • 3 weeks later...

With $50 I wouldn't recommend you play any mtts other than a scattered $2 or $3 one. I would recommend you play a combination of $5 single table sngs and .05/.10 NL hold'em cash games. Moreso the $5 sngs though, they are more profitable and are ridiculously easy.
