benhoug 0
I'm in LA for a couple days and was thinking about playing at either the commerce or the bike, but I'm not sure how the area is. I've only been to LA a few times, and don't know how much I want to drive around those places. They seem like I'd have to drive through or near the ghetto to get there. Anyone w/ insight??? MikeJohnson724 0
The area around bike and commerce is REAL ghetto bro. i don't recommend walking from bike to a liquor store late at night. They have security guards in the parking lot though.I think they even have mase on them, j/k
cwik 0
Both are pretty "ghetto", but if your that worried about it, you can just valet your car. However the insides are nice, with seas of tables.

I don't think I'll venture out tonight, but maybe tomorrow when it's daylight out. The casinos near me in Chicago are way ghetto too, but at least that's my ghetto, this is an entirely different ghetto.

rwood 0
you just have to know where to go...sunset is like 10 minutes away from commerce. hit that up.
FourFlusher 0
I think the Bike and the Commerce are right off the freeway...valet your car you'll be fine.
benhoug 0
OK, so it's fine to drive to the commerce, but I was VERY unimpressed once I got there. Admitedly I was early on a Sunday morning, but there was hardly anything going on. The play was horrendous, but what was even worse than that was the structure of the games ($40 MAX buy-in for a NL game w/ $1/$2 blinds. This might be a California thing, not strictly a Commerce thing, but it made the game absolutely stupid. I played for a couple hours w/out much interesting poker going on. When the table finally broke they couldn't even cash my chips in the poker room - I had to go to the casino floor. The whole thing was a waste of time. I don't see any reason why I'd ever go back to the Commerce. Maybe I'll try the Bike next time I'm in LA.

This is from the SF area all the way down the coast to LA.

I don't really see any benefit to them to make the buy-in only 20 big blinds versus 50, or even unlimited. I just don't get it. Someone please enlighten me.

navybuttons 15
i can't belive people are saying either place is in the ghetto.they might be somewhat "ghetto" but neither is in the ghetto.for chissakes there's not a house within 5 miles of the commerce casino. the city of commerce is called so because it is primarily businesses. the bike is a little more 'in the ghetto' but if you valet your car out of fear there you have lived a pretty privalaged life. but the parking lot is not as outstreched as other l.a. casinos so there is no long dark walk to the car like there is at other casinos.hollywood park is probably in the worst area, but that's just because there are homeless zombies walking around.i didn't realize there were so many pre-pubest boys at this forum. benhoug 0
On a completely unrelated point, today I saw the worst slowroll I've ever seen at a poker table. 2 players are involved in pot, EP is the worst player at the table, LP is very new to the table, but he's already re-bought twice. They got it all-in on the turn. The final board was QJ853 - no possible flush. EP says, "you got 2 pair?" LP turns over 85 off. EP says, "man, you're not right." He holds his cards out for probably 15 or 20 seconds and finally tables QJ. It was brutal. I wasn't involved in the hand at all, but I wanted wanted to kick EP's ***. rgold79 0
I lived in LA for a summer and played probably 20-30 times at Hollywood Park. The neighborhood around it isn't great, but you can valet park for like $1 on weeknights, and most of the time people in the parking lot just leave you alone. Actually the only interesting experience I had in the parking lot there was walking in and walking right past Norman Chad with a woman I'm pretty sure was a hooker.
