andy beal accepts challenge

Recommended Posts

In the new cardplayer issue Beal accepts the 40 million freezout challange. There was one part of the conditions that I do not understand."10. Player bets will not be pulled into the pot and will be left in front of each player until the hand is complete and the dealer has selected the winning hand."Any ideas why he would make this a condition?Atricle is at http://www.cardplayer.com/poker_magazine/a...4637&m_id=65559

Maybe it's because it's easier for him to count or use psychological tactics. But, I'm guessing it's easier to manage the chips. He won't have to restack them continuously etc. It is a heads-up battle... a lot of chips will be changing hands.lol. They should have a 2nd dealer to help with the chip stacks.

If I had to guess I would say it's a psychological thing -- I'm sure he'll have some sort of technical reason for doing it, but I wouldnt' be surprised if he's thinking to himself "They are going to be looking at exactly how much they have invested in the pot, rather than pushing it in and thinking it isnt' theirs anymore." Get what I mean? The pros will have to stare at the huge amount of cash they have in the pot every time, rather than it just going into the middle and becoming 'the pot'.

The pros won't accept Louisiana...They want to play in Vegas because, well, what are they gonna do the rest of the day? Andy says he needs to be near his home because he has a job...well, so do they.

Man it would be awesome if this thing really happened! I know Andy said the tapes would be for simple documentation of the match to prevent more fishermans tales, but man would that ever made a great DVD box set. Most people may find watching hours and hours of HU play extremely boring, but I think it would be an absoultely excellent teaching tool to watch the best of the best play their game. It wouldnt be AS good without the hole cams, but still would be very entertaining.

The thing that doesn't seem right is his owning the video of the game. If he loses the match, no one will ever see it, but if he wins he can market it and make a bundle. In fact, he could market it even if he loses since the networks would probably pay huge money for the tape of the largest poker game ever played. If he were to get demolished, he can also burn the tape. I wonder if this will become a sticking point? The 8 million rule is kinda funky, but it goes both ways. If Jenny is spanking him and has good reads he can boot her after she goes up 8 mil on him and get someone new. On the other hand if he is putting it to Doyle or someone they can pass the torch if they go down 8 mil, so fair is fair. How about the timing of the event? Most of the pro's don't see daylight till noon, so starting at 10am is different, since you would expect it to be played at night, but it's a casino so it probably doesn't matter.I think the other rules seem fair as well, and he has given to the rest of their requests so other than the taping, let the games begin!

In case he decides he wants to grab his chips and make a run for it.
quite the opposite. In a full ring game maybe, but HU limitHE is Andy's specialty. He isn't at as much of a disadvantage as you'd think

I wouldn't think they'll worry about what to do with the rest of their day with 40 mil staring them in the face.

If it is Louisiana, our boy DN might have problems...read his journals from the Jack Binoins World Poker Open.
i don't think dn's on the list to play
He said he would like to play, and he did not play last time because he was out of town.

meh, with $5000 chips it wont look like that much. 6 chips. i sling more than that in my 10-20 games. hell, its 12 chips to make it 60$ on the turn.

Yeah, so do they. Theirs is playing poker. To that end, they play in tourneys all over the world for WAY less thatn 40 mil. What possible objection could they have to going to Louisiana to play in the largest documented cash game in history? Sheesh.

Anyone know how short term interest works in a bank?80,000,000 even at a very conservative 1% is $800,000 right (annual)? I know there are probably a bazillion different types of interest programs, money markets, etc etcI wonder how much interest this game would actually bring and add to the winners purse?

"He said he would like to play, and he did not play last time because he was out of town."ok i can understand that but if i were him i would be fighting to play in the most exciting poker game ever!that same excuse would be real weak to miss this game.I too would love to see this match, i think they should split the rights to the tape of the match though.

For one, beal gets to choose the casino, which he apparently already has done. Hes a very rich man and bribery doesnt stike me as something that is above many people. That clause for the multiple decks sounds fishy to me too.two.Winning players are limited to winning 8 mil from him, out of 16 players, this seems like it would be a tough task to accomplish.three.hes got so much to gain from this is disgustingVideo deals, sponsorship deals from the casino in return for his publicity, book deals, you name it, hes got it.At worst I see andy as breaking even here where as the pros run the risk of losing alot. Granted, if they think they have an edge, I suppose they should take it. Its a nice free-roll for andy however.
