I had trouble with this inperticular hand in a $10 heads up sit n go on PStars. This guy was kind of a week player, and I had been hammerin on him the whole time, when this hand happened:I am staley8521, for privacy i've changed my opponents name to "my opponent.PokerStars Game #7197791087: Tournament #36797089, $10.00+$0.50 Hold'em No Limit - Match Round II, Level I (20/40) - 2006/11/27 - 13:05:28 (ET)Table '36797089 1' 2-max Seat #1 is the buttonSeat 1: my opponent: (1720 in chips) Seat 2: staley8521 (4280 in chips) my opponent: posts small blind 20staley8521: posts big blind 40*** HOLE CARDS ***Dealt to staley8521 [8c Ts]my opponent: calls 20staley8521: raises 80 to 120my opponent: calls 80*** FLOP *** [9s 3h Kc]staley8521: checks my opponent: checks *** TURN *** [9s 3h Kc] [8d]staley8521: bets 240my opponent: raises 280 to 520staley8521 said, "i only have an 8"staley8521 said, "what do you have"staley8521: calls 280*** RIVER *** [9s 3h Kc 8d] [Ks]staley8521: bets 840my opponent: raises 240 to 1080 and is all-instaley8521: calls 240*** SHOW DOWN ***my opponent: shows [9c Qs] (two pair, Kings and Nines)staley8521: shows [8c Ts] (two pair, Kings and Eights)my opponent collected 3440 from pot*** SUMMARY ***Total pot 3440 | Rake 0 Board [9s 3h Kc 8d Ks]Seat 1: my opponent (button) (small blind) showed [9c Qs] and won (3440) with two pair, Kings and NinesSeat 2: staley8521 (big blind) showed [8c Ts] and lost with two pair, Kings and EightsI couldn't beleive he called me with the hand he had, let alone go all in for only two hundred more (at this point i had to call the final 2hundred)his raise on the turn was 280, into a 480 pot, I thought i should call and try to get lucky. When the king came out I thought I could bluff at it, then he raised me with his pair of niines?? How, he didn't bet the flop, then represented 3 8's on the turn. Was my bluff terrible, or was I playing the wrong way against a bad player? any thoughts?

You told him what you had so he reraised you for his last 240 on the end to get the maximum value out of his hand. In a heads up match in which the other guy has been "hammering on" you, you might be inclined to play less than stellar hands if you think the other player is over-the-top aggressive. Also, with 2 kings on the board in a heads up match its unlikely you have a king, thus his pair of nines looked pretty good to him, and if you do have the king then he loses and moves onto the next SNG. P.S. you told him you had a pair of 8's, so his 9's looked GREAT to him at that point, regardless of everything else.If you did not believe he had a king, why should he believe you did???

did you stop to think that your opponent was letting you hammer him so that when he got a marginal hand he was willing to go with you thought you could push him off and he could double up?the pf raise is uuuuuugoooolleeeee if you play like this.

exactly.why raise out of position with a hand like 10-8 off, especially if, as you say, you've been "hammering" on the guy to this point?part of playing good heads up is switching it up often enough that your opponent really never knows what you're doing. if you think you're better than they are after the flop and you have a nice chip lead, why play this hand as you did?

Quite frankly I don't like anything about this hand...I would never raise OOP with T8o, not my style. If for whatever reason I did raise here, I would probably bet the flop. I would not tell my opponent what I have... (although I have been known to say that if I had the king rather than the 8 and thought he might have the 9).I would have folded on the turn after getting raised becuase he is very likely to have a nine in this spot by checking hte flop, or he could have a hand like Kx, where x is like <7. My advice, is when you have been playing aggressive and the weak/tight player decides to lash back at you, just fold.If you decide to lead back into him on the river, do not accidentally committ yourself. A bet of 300-500 would have done the trick just right and you could have found out if you were beat or not and been able to save some chips.Even though its 240@3200, I probably would not have called the river. You're only beating an 8 with no kicker and the other hands I would put him on like 55-77 I would rule out because most players raise their buttons with those so I would eliminate those. Basically I didnt like anything about this, sorry bro.

Thank you all....very helpfullMaybe i should have waitedfor a good hand to put him in, and hope my earlier aggression would have him call with just a pair of nines..just like he did. greed sometimes makes me bluff away a good lead.

Definitely, now you gave him back all the chips you stole being aggressive and then some. I see it all the time. Aggressive players stealing all day then in 1 pot they give it all back cuz they dont lay it down and figure well Im in this far. Gotta be aggressive heads up but not reckless.

pair of 8's with a weak kicker, with a nine and king on board. In the heads up situation whenever I have the lead and ready to bury the guy I look at what I have and say is this the best situation to end it. If not fold the hand and move on there will be plenty of chances especially agianst a loose or weaker opponent. If your stuck heads up with a tight player you have to push the action and hope to have the best hand or catch a card.

Did you miss the part of the hand where you told him what you had?
BRILLIANT!!! Seriously though OP, if you've been showing so much aggression then it would seem that maybe you could get some action on a good hand when he thinks you're BS'ing and knock him out that way. Telling the truth about what you have when it isn't that strong doesn't seem like a good play to me. Saying you have the straight flush when the board makes it possible is a good time to tell the truth, people will never (hardly ever) believe you.
