Okay i like to mix up my game and limp in early position with AK or AQ but this river move by villian confuses me. With the turn making a flush and him betting into me why make this move on the river? Why not value bet and get paid. Haven't seem him play enough hands to see if he is capable of making this bluff or not? I probably should have re-raised the turn here to see where I was at.Full Tilt PokerNo Limit Holdem Ring gameBlinds: $0.10/$0.259 playersConverterStack sizes:Hero: $31.20UTG+1: $8.40MP1: $19.50MP2: $22.85MP3: $10.45CO: $7.55Button: $30.45SB: $20.65BB: $28.40Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is UTG with :D:club: Hero calls, 3 folds, MP3 calls, 2 folds, SB calls, BB checks.Flop: :D :D :) ($1, 4 players)SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $1, MP3 folds, SB calls, BB folds.Turn: :) ($3, 2 players)SB bets $2.25, Hero calls.River: :) ($7.5, 2 players)SB is all-in $17.15, Results:Villan???

dela, you've got a pair on a 3-flush, straight-possible board. It's not even top pair by the river. You have to be right an inordinate amount of time to make this river call profitable. Basically, it's not worth it without a really really good read. If he's bluffing, you can wait for a better situation to pick him off.Oh, and by 'mix up your play', I hope you mean that you're raising AK/AQ a majority of the time with the very occasional limp.

raise the turn. if he doesn't have the str8 or flush, sometimes he's donking into you with air, but more often he's on some sort of semibluff. thus, raising does more here than just buy you info (which is good, but make sure there are other benefits). it also protects your hand when you're ahead, and because often he's got enough outs, you're ok with shutting out a bluffing hand. it also often buys you a cheaper showdown.you could very well be crushed here, but unless you've done this before in the past (raising a donkbet against a scare card), i do this a lot for image reasons. i don't want to make it easy for my opponents to outplay me when i have position. it puts more pressure on them to actually have a hand if they want to do this, or resort to fancier and riskier attempts to represent strength, like c/r'ing. but the flipside of this is that you have to bet your draws in position more often, otherwise the move becomes very transparent.
