Thinking Too Much

Recommended Posts

So I had a thought today as I was driving to work today. I remember my first few times playing in live tourneys and in live cash games and it was exhilirating to say the least. You get dealt these two cards and when you see the flop you are so excited to see if you hit anything but you are trying to keep it under control. I remember getting Pocket Aces and you just feel so excited that you have the best hand and you are trying to stay focused but you are so stoked that you have the best Pre-flop starting hand. Now the question is this (and I hope some full time guys or even DN himself can answer this): Do you still get that excited when you are dealt AA? Or since you have seen this 1,000,000 times is it just part of the day and you play it out like anything else. peace

Mathmatically they are gold, but lately it seems like they've only been about 30% winners, lol. It's really just that I rarely ever win a ton with them, and that makes me not feel so good when I first peek at them. I bet the crap outta 'em though, always, and hope for the best.BTW Daniel, great to see FCP poker back up and you playing again. Very cool. I know those guys worked their collective butts off. they are an outstanding team. :club:

I get more excited by flops and bets than I do by any two cards I pick up. That's not to say AA isn't good, it's just one opportunity among many in a session.

Wow sounds like you guys get beat with AA a lot. I like what desmoines said about the flops. that is where i now have the most excitement as well. I just love to be sitting with a 78s and hoping this is gonna hit me big so I can make some money but also true that it is just one hand out of the session. That is what i was trying to figure out. Is it just one more hand out of the session or is it still fun to get. I only play 2-3 times a month and i get excited all the time when i get big pairs and good cards and even more when i hit a big flop, but it seems that if this was your job it would get redundant. Maybe... i don't know. Thanks for the answers

Excitement in a hand preflop is relative to the field your playing and the position you are in for chips. I've been playing NLHE for about 5 yrs now. I play live 3-4 days a week and online everyday. When I look down at AA or KK, I know i'm strong. I also know I only want one person in on the flop with me. Thats when positioning and the table your at comes into play. Am I in early position, where I could call the blind and hopefully get a raise I can come over the top of or am I in late position with multiple callers I need to filter out of the hand. From there you play the hand based on the board and your opponents actions. Though I like having those starting hands they can also be very dangerous. A player has to remember every starting hand can be beat after the flop. A real player, a solid smart player knows when to lay down a monster starting hand, though it is one of the toughest things for a player to do. Good luck in your future games, J.

AA only gives me half-wood becuase I know that often it's just not gonna be a fun hand. I'm probably playing a small pot with them, or taking it down preflop.Give me T9 suited anyday and I'll have a raging hard-on for that one! Nothing better than medium suited connectors to get me excited about a poker hand!

Like others here, not real fond of pocket As. What I know when I see them is that I am playing the hand, then I am quick thinking how to do that. Most of the time I limp in, unless it's one of those tables where everyone limps all the time, every time. Good hand to steal the blinds with, tho'.

Well it's obvious a delight to see them, but when you are playing limit holdem and 5 other players are in the pot and you've got 3 of one suit on the board on the flop and its not the suit of your ace... you probably should be folding when you have raises and reraising behind you. I had this happen to me in my live game. I didn't even want to see a turn. I made a good play as two people had flushes, so it wasn't that costly. NL is another story... Don't want that many people going into the flop unless they are tiny stacks and can't take much from your stack if you lose.
