I'm guessing his raise on the flop = an ace trying to figure out if you had the king. His cautious check on the turn = fear of being reraised if you have the king. Maybe he was just buying a free card. I probably would have folded the flop. Definitely not calling the river.

Don't put in another bet in after the flop. Fold to the raise, you can't have the best hand here enough to make it worth it.I know nobody folds to flop raises, but that's cause they suck. Save bets, let it go and move on to the next hand.

I'd let the flop check through.....if bet flop, its a def b/f.
You have to bet this flop. For all sorts of reasons. No one showed aggression preflop. So we likely have the best hand. But don't let yet another overcard fall so that we are outdrawn.Try to take the pot down now at the cost of 1 small bet.

I'm guessing he is trying to check-raise again on the turn. When Villain check-raises the flop, I don't like my 9's at all.I am likely way behind. And even if I am ahead, there is still a good chance that I won't be by the river.Rather than spend an expected 2.5bb to see showdown with my underpair, I fold the flop when raised.--CM

i dont think you can call that flop
You're doing that to spike a 9 on the turn, right? If you want to stick around, I think you need to bet the turn when he gets quiet and lead the river again if he calls the turn. The way you played it is just spew 99% of the time.

Thanks for the comments guys.....After thinking about it .... I think I have to raise the flop. I showed aggression pre-flop and need to continue. I quite possibly have the best hand. Calling the c/r is questionable. but it is against a tricky player who could quite possibly be playing a PP or a junk hand from BB. what % of this am I beating though? The river call is probably a spew. As i'm probably beat most of the time... soooo. I played it badly then.

It isn't a completely disgusting call if your read is dead-on, but you really need to know he's on a spade draw a high % of the time here for this not to be spew.

Are you suggesting betting and 3betting this flop?--cm

I'm not really sure. This hand kinda confuses me. All I know is that I played it badly.... Lots of things beat me but I beat some hands too.... which hands a tricky player would play is what i need to figure out I guess.

good to see you in Limit Strategy again.Or maybe you are in here often, I don't visit that much.I tend to agree with this. While part of me wants to 3-bet and fodl to a cap because I think aggressive players might do this with TJs, or 88 type hands to get some FE here or on the turn. The other part of me realize that that player knows he needs to hope neither the UTg limper has a suited Ace, nor our Hero has a A/K. From BB's position it's too costly to bet without a better hand here. So if BB is decent, we can let it go.

HU you can make an argument for calling down vs a tricky player but with UTG still to act I doubt BB is doing this with a weak hand to often if he is a good player.
He could be doing this on the flop to limit the number of players in the pot and thus protecting his hand. if he was playing say a flush draw, smaller PP, gut-shot straight draw.... Plus he may get me to fold a better hand at the same time....

yeah, He Could. We're playing based on a read that he's not crazy. You have almost no way to improve. If he does this all the time, start looking him upMost players would not do this vs two players3-betting and folding to a cap is better than calling though, imo.

I can't see calling on the flop to catch a 9. We're getting 9:1 on the flop for 2 outs that aren't clean. If I call the flop, it's at least partially because I think he's semi-bluffing. And therefore I pay off the river, but ISALHE.

If you call flop its for meta purposes and you hopefully spike a 9. I would guess you are sol on this flop simply bc if villain is good and had an f draw this is a bad flop for him to get tricky. Most people will not push a flush draw against pfr with this type of board.

Haven't read replies*****************Anyone just b/f this flop?I'm just trying to brush up on my LHE full ring before I go back to the grind full time.Is this ever < 99 enough to call down?Is this > 99, but will fold to a 3-bet, or 3-bet and continued turn bet? Ie Ax, or JJ, TT?I usually just bet/fold this flop against an unknown, but against someone classified as a "good" player, he could certainly have less than 99 here. I guess it depends on our definitoin of a "good" player.

I would bet/fold this flop. And once again, if hero plans on throwing 2 extra bets to see a show down I would pop the turn.
