Poker Player Or Not.....

Recommended Posts

Flame the OP all you want but I think he was just saying what a lot of us have been thinking.I just watched the Tunica event (again) that he won at the beginning of the year and during his victory interview he went on and on about how "2006 is all about poker"Orly?? I, for one, haven't seen it. He played a whole lot more cash games and tourneys in 2005, the so called "slump" year, than he has this year.I guess it shouldn't be surprising that he's played a whole lot less poker since getting married and entering into other business ventures. Marriage has had that affect on a lot of people in the sports and entertainment fields and, as long as DN is happy that's all that really matters.I wouldn't expect that he's going to play more or less or do anything else just because of what some on the forums say, nor should he.I think we all need to come to the realization that poker is not #1 on the hit parade for DN anymore and quit complaining that he's always out playing golf, writing books, pimping video games and running around with former reality show "stars".

it's not the observation that annoys us, which anyone can make.it's the acting like we should care or he owes something or he's lacking in some way.quit putting someone on an artificial pedestalnot you, tiltin, just in general^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^that made no sense reading itoh well

I don't need the "bother" that Daniel and the top pros have to go through at major events.
I'm sure that some of the players in the spotlight feel constantly interrupted, and I don't know Daniel very well at all, but I don't recall a time that he appeared to be "bothered" while in a casino. He seems to enjoy dealing with the public. He doesn't seem to mind signing autographs or posing for pictures while his table is playing a hand. He even spent half of his dinner break at this year's WSOP to sign autographs. As far as I know, he doesn't have to do these things. He appears to do these things because he enjoys it.I could talk about him taking time to spend with little Matt but, unless you've been living in a cave, you already know. Daniel also appears to maintain a balanced lifestyle.

I agree with you Actuary...that's the point I was trying to make...not very well maybe.DN has his life...it's different now than it was in '04 but who's isn't? If most people spent as much time working on making their own lives better as they did judging others on theirs they'd be a whole lot better off.

The answer is simple...winning is funDN is at a point where he doesn't need to grind to eat. In poker terms it's more +EV to stay home and catch up on his writing which is guaranteed money. As far as the big tourneys for a player of DN's popularity having the odd win here and there is financially sound as it keeps his credibility as a top player in tact making him more marketable or at least keeping his market value from dropping. He also appears to be highly competitive so breaking even or busting out of tourneys isn't nearly as fulfilling as shooting hookers in GTA or making a nice shot on the golf course. If he was running good I'm sure he'd play more.
