De La Hoya Vs. Mayweather

Recommended Posts

Looks to me that De La Hoya lost this fight when he chose Freddie Roach Over FLoyd Sr. When your business partner, Hopkins, has to stand up and yell at you to motivate you then your trainer isn't doing a large part of his job. I still remember how instrumental Teddy Atlas was in the Holyfield/Moore fight. "Your doing just enough to keep him off you, LISTEN you need to throw punches out there,......."This is a big part of a trainers responsibility, motivating your fighter to do what was working in the fight. At no point did Freddy convey the level of urgency needed after the 8th round. When it comes down to it, if De La Hoya had pressed his jab from that round on, he would have easily accumulated the points to win. He may have even caught Floyed with a follow up right/left hook combination. I think it was telling to see Floyd Sr, Oscar, and Oscars brother conversing after the fight and Freddy Roach was no where to be seen. When it comes down to it there is a reason FIGHTERS like Holyfield, De La Hoya, Barrera, and others make the big paydays almost every fight; they fight. "Boxers" like Mayweather exist only to survive a fight and posses such overwhelming speed they win. He should RETIRE because, as a fight fan, I wouldn't pay to see him fight a guy like Coto. I already know he will grab and poke his way to a boring victory like he did last night.
You have got to love the story with Roach, though. After contemplating this for a day I have come to this conclusion- this fight was the biggest scam ever. The reality show- it was nothing but smoke and mirrors for the money, and that is it. So much of boxing is about the big payday it is pathetic, but this was lower than usual. I really think the whole thing, Floyds hatred, Oscars playing the good guy, it was all bullshit and they strung us along for the ride.

Boxing Promoters are the biggest con artist that ever lived. Every last one of them. So, I believe you have hit the proverbial nail on the proverbial head. Still. Floyd didn't fight and could have put forth a better account for himself and I won't pay to watch him in the Future.

After last nights fight, I just watched this fight again, and you just can't tell me that Floyd won. Landed a higher % of 'crisp' punches while throwing less? They didn't affect De La Hoya 'one bit'. Mayweather looked beat up, was on his heels the whole fight, and De La Hoya looked absolutely fine at the end of the fight. I don't know, I think De La Hoya said it best himself:"You have to beat the champion. He did not beat the champion. If I did not pursue him, there was no fight."I understand the technical aspects of it, but Floyd just didn't beat De La Hoya imho.
