11 to 1 0
What would be your idea for the perfect poker tournament? This is mine: The Ultimate International Invitational 1. Run by professional poker players2. Invite 99 players, the best of the best: US, foriegn, B&M, Internet. 3. Entry fee is 100k4. Everyone starts with 100k, and plays 200/400 NL. Play starts at noon and continues until 10pm. Blinds never increase, no antes.5. At 10pm, the play stops, the chips are counted, the top 45 money players are invited back for the second day. Everyone else leaves with whatever they have in front of them. If you lose all your money you end up with zip, if you have 25k left, you end up with 25k. There is no hand-to-hand. If there is a "tie" for 45th place, the top 43 players are invited back.6. Second day, same as the first. At the end of ten hours, the top 27 money winners are invited back. On the third day, the top nine. 7. The last day is exactly the same. At the end of ten hours, whoever has the most money is declared the champion. No lookie-loos, no hangers-on. Just cameras and all the action televised. I want to see every hand, including what is folded preflop. Maybe especially what is folded pre-flop. I want to watch the best players play hold 'em. I want intelligent commentary without editorial content. I really don't care who does, or does not, like Phil Helmuth or how many wives or exd-wives anyone has. I do not need to be entertained, nothing could possibly be as entertaining as watching the best of the best play NL Hold 'Em. That's my fantasy tourny. And Daniel? You got a few bucks and some influence, so do your friends. Host your own tournament. And, let's have the PPA simply make the standard tournament rules structure. That's what organizations like the PPA are for. Whoever telecasts golf doesn't make the rules. If this is a sport, and I submit that it is - then claim the professional high ground now. And do some yoga for your back. It'll do wonders for your golf game, too. 11/
showstopper24 0
so as long as you don't bust you make money?sounds pretty good except one of the stipulations should be that i am included and don't need to pay the 100k
Brunswick14 0
It's different, it's like a mix between a cash game and a tournament. Accept i dont really get why you would do it that way, because like a regular tournament you are working towards the payouts and climbing the ladder but this is just a cash game so there is no ladder to climb. Therefor there is no reason to play in the tournament when you can just play a cash game and do the same thing accept you can quit whenever you want.(If I understand it right)

Therefor there is no reason to play in the tournament when you can just play a cash game and do the same thing accept you can quit whenever you want.(If I understand it right)It's just my fantasy tournament, the one I want to watch. But I do think there would be reason to play. Tournaments supposedly define who is the best, in this case, the best NLH player. But the structures of the events generate a cause/effect in which players play differently than in cash games. The tournament is a false construct. My tourny is structured so players can play their real best game against one another. What's the pay-off? Not money, it really never has been. A pro can make more money in cash games than tourneys; they play for the title. Personally, I think a title from this kind of tourney would have more meaning than Jamie Gold's bracelet. But would there be money? I think there would be. Some players are going to bust out, some players are going home with significantly less than their entry fee. It's always been that we keep score in poker by who has the most money when everyone goes home. To me, real poker is subtle, brilliant, chess with cards. All I seem to see in tournaments today is the Big Stack Polka. But like I said, my idea isn't supposed to be the best tournament structure, it's just the one I want to watch. Stack size $250,000......Excellent, I'd like to watch this one, too. So, what's the hold-up? Schedule this baby and let's get selling the viewing rights through PPV. How about February? Nothin' much good happens then, we need a diversion. You know what else we need? An umbrella organization: the IPA, International Poker Alliance. Then the players, pro and am, have real muscle. Tournament types and structures could be standardized. Decks, tables could be standardized. Mike Caro could get four-color playing cards, if it was so mandated. Pros at all levels could get medical insurance, have retirement plans if they chose. The IPA could build poker rooms completely divorced from casinos. Great facilities dedicated to the sport. We'll open the first one with the Daniel Negreanu Non-invitational 250k Inagural.11/

11 to 1 0
this should be like a wsop event so the winner wins a braceletThe bracelet is taken. Let's see, in golf there are cups and jackets - in poker, so far, bracelets and rings-- at this level something better, something subtle, understated Best of the Best. Could be a pin. The symbol of the tournament, inside a circle, platinum, with the year. Could be worn as a tie pin, lapel, scarf pin, I guess. Not too big. True champions don't have to advertise.Good structure, sick buy in amount. Even if I won a sat. to get in, I might cash it out instead of butting heads with the richest and best poker players in the world for my whole bankroll.I do believe that's the point. DanielNegreanu 141
Satellites could be run very easily for amounts that would accomidate lots of players. You could literally run $500 satellites. For each 50 entries one seat is given away into a $25,000 satellite. Obviously in that satellite, for every 10 entries one seat would be awarded. You could also run $2500 buy in satellites. For every 10 entries, one $25,000 seat is awarded. The $25,000 satellites could be run once a month. To make this satellite system worthwhile, people would not be allowed to cash out or transfer buy ins. You coud also run one tables around the clock. $500, $2500, and $25,000 buy ins depending on demand. Now that I think about it, if this was marketed properly, it would be feasable to see 100 players in this event. Satellites could be run very easily for amounts that would accomidate lots of players.
