sixhands 0
Veterans day there, remember your vets and thank them...also remember if i'm not mistakes FCP has two or three people over in Iraq nowit's also Rememberence day here in canada on the 11th...If I'm not mistaken, this is also for France, the U.S, Britain and Commonwealth countries. The poppy and it's origin has pure Canadian roots though. For those that don't know about the poppy, here is a quick rundown.During the Battle of Ypres in 1915, Canadian Lt.-Col. John McCrae was inspired to write the poem In Flanders Fields on sighting the poppies growing beside a grave of a close friend who had died in battle. The poem was a great inspiration in adopting the poppy as the Flower of Remembrance. Here's his poem.In Flanders FieldsIn Flanders fields the poppies blowBetween the crosses, row on row,That mark our place; and in the skyThe larks, still bravely singing, flyScarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days agoWe lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,Loved, and were loved, and now we lieIn Flanders Fields.Take up our quarrel with the foe:To you from failing hands we throwThe torch; be yours to hold it high.If ye break faith with us who dieWe shall not sleep, though poppies growIn Flanders fields.- John McCrae, 1915Thank you, brave men and women, for putting your lives on the line so that we may continue ours. WrongWay 0
If I'm not mistaken, this is also for France, the U.S, Britain and Commonwealth countries.Yeah... Veterans day was originally Armistice Day marking the date when WWI ended. After WWII, they were all like...."****, now we have to have Armistice Day, D-Day, VE Day... Nah, screw it. Let's just wrap them all up into 1 and call it Veterans Day."
