Looking for some input on buying a new poker table..I've seen some that have the hard/wood "race track" around the edge of the playing suface and I need some advice why this is a nice option to have. Looking for feedback, websites, cost etc....I have not seen this topic on here in a long time so some new prospectives might be nice...

I am sure there is at least one other thread about this...anyway i will chime in on your question about race track goodness...personally I hate it, two of the home games I play at have the same wood track outside of a raised felt (1/2 inch when new, and tends to flatten with time) but it can still be a PITA getting cards back on the table when they manage to hit the track. I personally like what you find in most casino card rooms, very wide surfaces with uniform material. Large padds bumper with or without drink holders, if no holders in the padding you can use the "slide under" style. Obviously googling poker tables will open your eyes to a wide array of styles

I find a really good quality round table is your best bet for home games, delaing from the ends on an oval table is a pain.
Hire a dealer? $5 a person, I'm down. Anyway, racetracks are pretty but I've never played on one. The track does seem to make a good bet line.

I have a racetrack style oval table.Benefits

  • I think it looks nicer.
  • Can accomodate 10 players.

Downfalls

  • If your chips are on the track, you need to pick them up to go all-in, you can't just shove your stack forward.
  • If your cards get on the tracks, they might be hard to get off.
  • Hard to deal from the ends, but the guys in the middle just help the dealer.

So we really have to issues here: oval/circle and race-track versus non-racetrack.I like the oval because it's more comfortable for 10 players, which we often have.I can't say that the racetrack adds to the game itself, but it certainly looks nice. It makes a great first impressilon and adds a little class to our lowly home game.If I was to build my table all over again, I'd probaby make the same desicions.

That's a sweet looking table. When are you going to put some chairs around it?
If you are only going to make room for 8 players at an oval table, you might as well make a circle. The guys on the end don't need that much room and a circle would be easier to deal with. The only advantage of an oval is to fit 10 players, otherwise it's a waste of space (IMO).

If you are looking for a very nice (albeit expensive) hand made, no plywood, solid hardwood table, this is where I bought mine:True North PokerTablesIt's the envy of all my home game attendees.DSCF0014editfp.jpg
Personally I don't like chip trays. Seems kind of counter productive in NL HE.And drink holders on the table surface rather than in the rail seem like an accident waiting to happen.I think my dream table would be minus the race track and with drink holders under the table like some i've seen. Though I'm not sure if that interferes with your legs or not. As for the surface I'd love to have a table with the suede like surface they use at Venetian even though it can be a bit stickier than felt.

Doesn't make a good bet line, because everyone keeps their chips on the felt. You may think they won't but trust me, they will.See Royal's picture for confirmation.

Good deal but I bet your table legs are those foldable kind. The bottom part of your table probably isn't much to look at.
Oh, well jacckassss. Yes, they are the foldable kind, I like the ability to fold it up if we have a big bash or something, And yes, i'l admitt, they arent much without solid legs, but meh.

I think it's a nice table for $350, I was wondering how you got it past your mom into the house??

Racetracks are nice for 10-11 players, but if you pass the deal, expect alot of exposed cards when the dealer is on the ends.A large round table is my favorite when you pass the deal.I got an oak one from a 1950's/60's Texas gambling joint on ebay WITH 8 oak bent wood chairs with leather seats for $2200 w/ shipping to California.I'm way happy with it :club:

Sorry Royal, didn't mean to be a jackass, that comment came out wrong. In reality, I wish I had a table like that.

Combat Green.....that is a beautiful table. I wouldn't mind that as a piece of furniture, even when the poker game is not in session.Has anyone seen the show on HGTV with the 2 brothers who made a poker table. Their name escapes me right now. .....DeResta maybe ? They put a bunch of cards and chips on the table and did a clear coat bartop finish on it. The rest of the table was beautifully made, but having chips and cards built into it would be so distracting, IMHO. I could not play on that thing.
