What Should I Do This Weekend?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I've set my mind on going somewhere this weekend, from Thursday thru Monday. Here are the 4 options I currently have.1. Go to Mexico City with friends.2. Go to San Francisco and visit a friend.3. Go to Las Vegas for poker.4. Go to LA and play in some events in the Commerce Holiday Bonus tournaments.I'm pretty much indifferent towards the 4 options. Any inputs? I understand that there's some unrest in Mexico due to the disputed Presidential elections and the troubles in Oaxaca, but it should still be ok. I've only been to Vegas once and have never been to San Francisco or LA.

Haha, considering that this is a poker forum, the replies I'm getting so far are kinda expected. :club: Anyway, just go ahead and shoot your comments about my options. Some of you might point out some things about my options that I had not considered. Here's my thoughts and considerations.1) Mexico City - I've visited it once and I really liked it. There's a really vibrant atmosphere in Mexico City that I really enjoy. Plus, I didnt' get a chacne to visit the archaelogical sites near Mexico City the last time I visited and I would really want to visit it.2) San Francisco - A really good friend of mine is there and I am really keen on visiting her. However, I'm not really that interested about the city itself. However, there are casinos nearby.3) Vegas - It's VEGAS!!! POKER!!!4) LA - Poker tournaments!!! And some FCPers are planning to be there..

I lived in Mexico city, and I go all the time...I guess it depends what you're looking to do, if you want to party you'll have a hard time finding a cool place unless you know someone that lives there, or else you'll ask a cab driver and they'll take u to some tourist spot like senor frogs and sht. I havent been there in over a year, and clubs change all the time but you can PM me and I can find out for you. If you want to sightseeing...well, I guess you can. Im not a big fan of seeing stuff even when Im in europe and stuff but you can go to "Castillo de Chapultepec" or take a 1hr trip to the Tehutihuacan Pyramids (sp?), thats actually pretty cool... Keep in mind Mexico is going through a crisis at the moment, because one of the idiot presidential candidates didn't like the fact that he wasn't elected so he told his voters to organize a peace strike and a lot of them have pretty much paralized the down town area of the city....Im not sure if this is still going on, I havent kept up really in the past month, but again, I can find out for u....If you're the partying type I would have recommended Acapulco instead, but during this time of the year it's probably 100% dead..Mexico City might be really good for partying at this time if you go to the right places, hottest/classiest girls ever and nonstop drinking is guaranteed.oh also, best food on earth in mexico city...I'd say vegas is a close second for food, but vegas is pretty much good steak sushi or buffet and thats about it....if you go PLEASE do not be the tourist that visits a different country and eats mcdonalds every day, I had freinds like that in Europe and it pissed me off. I could send you the names of good restaurants too.Once you get past the insecurity and dirtyness of certain areas, mexico city is great, tons of culture and you can have fun everywhere...edit: my mom just told me the whole presidential scandal is over with so you most likely dont have to worry about not being able to access certain tourist spots.

I'd reccomend going to commerce....hotel right next door = if by chance you happen to bust out, you drink! and a short stumble back to the hotel. my company's main office is right off that exit, a lil further east of washington....so when i go up to LA, (from san diego) i leave 2 hrs early, play a lil bit, and if im doin well, go back for a session in the evening...great games at commerce, let alone great tournies....best of luck!

Thanks for the info Prty. I actually did a study abroad in Oaxaca for 3 mths and really really enjoyed it and love the place and Mexico, hence I'm kinda saddened at all the crap that's happening in Oaxaca. Was planning to go back there to show my friends around, but had to cancel that plan with all the troubles going on.I'm not too keen on the party scene but will definitely try to visit a club or two. If we do go, my friends and I intend to check out the museums and archaelogical sites. I've visited the Museum of Anthropology and love it a lot. And Teotihuacan is definitely a place I would like to visit since we didn't get to visit it the last time I visited. Also would try to watch a wrestlign event since I hear it can be quite exciting.I'll definitely PM you if we do decide to go to Mexico City and get some info about the clubbing scene.

Yeah, I definitely would like to play at the Commerce at some point since it's the poker mecca. And it would be really cool to hang out with some FCPers as well and if we're really silly enough (or drunk), we could nutbar the 2/4 limit games. That would be some really good times...

commerce is great, not much to do in that area though, pretty ghetto, you should rent a car and go out to santa monica or Hollywood when you're not playing. Go to Crenshaw Blvd, I hear its good times.

I beg to differ sir. Singapore has the best food in the world. Seriously, AINEC.

lool @ wresteling, not making fun, just saying its insane...I remember going as a kid..not that fake at all either, but the people that go are dirty as hell and will literally throw a bucket of piss on you if you obstruct their view...if you go, have fun but be VERY careful...some people in the US arent as open this "sport", and I dont know if its the season for it at this time (but as far as I recall it is), bullfighting is absolutely incredible. Theres a real art to the technique. Plaza Mexico is the stage for the best of the best, and the presence of the packed stadium makes it worth while to go....going on sundays is one of my best memories from when I lived there, definately worth checking out.Heh, I could go on and on...so I'll hold back the forum cluttering until you decide if you're going of not.And yes the Anthropology Meuseum is one I left out, its awesome...And oaxaca is very dangerous at the time so it was a good idea to stay away. Mexico as a country is beautiful, but definately 3rd world, so its only nice to people who can appreciate certain things like culture and having fun etc.. GL either way,

never been, I guess "best place out of anywhere I've been"...what type of food do they eat in singapore anyway?

It's a mix of Chinese, Indian and Malay food. A lot of the food are spicy...since you're Mexican, I'm sure you'll love it just fine. When I found out that Mexican wrestling is pretty popular, I was like "Dude...we have to go watch wrestling". Especially since I grew up watching WWF and how Hulk Hogan body slammed Andre the Giant. I watched some bull fighting on TV when I was in Mexico previously and found it too gory for my taste. Plus, the friends that could be going with me are girls and they are not fans of that.

Vegas Or SF
What's cool in San Fran? The only reason why I'm indifferent to SF compared to Mexico, Vegas and LA is that my friend who's there is a really special friend and I haven't seen her for a while now. However, there's nothing in SF itself that makes me look forward to visiting it, hence my indifference to the SF option.

bullfighting is actually suprisingly really entertaining...at least I thought so when I was a kid in barcelona
yep. People think of it as a really gruesome thing, but i see it as very artistic, from the way they dress to the way they walk and move its pretty impressive. the trumpet music And the "Ole's" from the crowd are some things you have to witness in order to appreciate. At the same time, its kind of like formula one racing, awesome to watch, but deep down you're kinda waiting for the bull to pull one of these :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Chnify-EXyQPS As I was looking for that clip, I found this from a few years back, happend in mexico city , how insane is this ****.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTCUKNOljCY
