What Do I Do?

My remarks today to General McPherson and a bunch of pigeons. Please let me begin by reading one of my favorite Mark Twain quotes. There are few things that are so unpardonably neglected in our country as poker. The upper class knows very little about it. Now and then you find ambassadors who have sort of a general knowledge of the game, but the ignorance of the people is fearful. Why, I have known clergymen, good men, kind-hearted, liberal, sincere, and all that, who did not know the meaning of a "flush." It is enough to make one ashamed of one's species.- quoted in A Bibliography of Mark Twain, Merle JohnsI come before you as a died in the wool, card carrying, Ronald Reagan, conservative Republican and ashamed of my species today.A few misguided Republican politicians in the dark of night, in the 11th hour on the final day of the 109th Congress before this election decided they knew better than 23 million Americans how to manage their private affairs. These few misguided Republican politicians used a wide varity of half truths and trickery to advance their totalitarian theocratic agenda. They said gambling is bad but carved out exemptions for horseracing, fantasy sports leagues and the biggest sucker bet of all - state lotteries. They said money could be laundered through gambling sites but you can go on line and buy a copy of the Koran signed by the Ayatollah himself for a thousand dollars with the proceeds going to his favorite Islamo-fascist terrorist group. They said it was so important to ban us from playing poker online with friends that the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act must be attached to the very important Port Security Act without debate.Which brings me to my quandary today, this is my absentee ballot for next Tuesdays election. What do i do?To be continued ... until election day.

Poker isn't why you should be ashamed of Republicans. More on that in a bit. The whole poker thing is a thinly disguised mechanism to bring online poker onshore and tax it. There's literally billions of dollars of revenue the govt is missing out on. Wait for it to come as casino intranet poker. It could even bust open the whole concept of paying for internet ACCESS. We could move from paying for an access point to paying for access to the points we want to go to. (If that makes sense). Now that I've said that, from another Reaganite Republican, here are the reasons to not vote Republican this year: mismanagement of the Iraq Warspecifically letting the Chi Coms totally pwn us in tradeLetting the Chi Coms use our trade $ to buy a brazillion nuke subsnot either cutting bait or fishing with xx,xxx troops in S Koreamismanaging trade in general dismissive of the impact of trade policies on the American working class no border fencehuge BUDGET deficitminimal outreach to the people about "the plan" (Reagan's strength)ineffective in alternative energy developmentI mean, the Democrats are pathetic alright, but the R's offer ... not a whole hell of a lot more.

I've been a Republican since I was first able to vote as well. A South Park Republican, if you will. Sadly, the last 8 years have opened my eyes. We've had control of all three branches of government, and the country has slowly regressed. Now can I ever bring myself to ever vote Democrat? Probably not. I've looked into Libertarian party and meh, maybe. Until then, I think I simply will not vote. There is no lesser of evils right now, as far as I'm concerned.

I do understand, many things Bush has done haven't been right. But I am totally cool with the Iraq invasion, and his proactive stance on Terrorist.Last time Republicans did a protest vote type thing we got Clinton twice. But on the other hand, maybe letting the dems totally screw up everything again would get some true conservatives to step up. But can we let them screw up with Iran and N Korea rattling sabers?Tough choices man, tough choices.

I have never been opposed to the war in Iraq. I think we accomplished something we should have done over a decade ago. How he's handled the situation, on the other hand, hasn't exactly done wonders for the party. We needed swift action there, not a prolonged battle that has spanned the stretch of his presidency. Americans have short attention spans - after 9/11 everyone was behind this war. Now, everyone is against it.We should have taken a firm stance against Hezbollah and supported Isreal publically. Instead, we let them handle all the heat and build up world discontent before being pressured to withdraw from Lebanon. Where do we stand on Iran and North Korea? They're both going nuclear and have publically spoken out against America. Are we or aren't we the world police? Right now the answer to that question looks like it depends on what day of the week you ask it.We need a president who is not afraid to say one way or another. We can't have it both ways, because all that ends up happening is what we have today.

voting by party is stupid no matter who you are voting for.
I suppose I could do months of research on all the candiates, and weed out a couple of dems I wouldn't want in and it possibly could sway a couple of my votes. In the end, it is much simpler to just go straight down the line. Wouldn't you agree?

This is a list of candidates in my area:http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/content/...ndidatelist.docDoes anyone have any recomdations?
Your vote doesn't seem like the kind of decision that should be greatly influenced by your random friends at a poker forum. They are good at giving advice on whether to raise the turn...but otherwise, the people on this forum probably have political opinions across the whole spectrum, so it's best to investigate your candidates and decide for yourself.Oh, and I used to live in Montgomery County. holla, I guess.

Thinking about voting for Ehrlich in Maryland. He tried to get slots at Maryland tracks to help save horse racing in Maryland but was shot down by the Democrats. I wonder if poker rooms at Maryland tracks could be in our future?
