fleung22 1
I've met quite a few pros including Daniel but I can easily respond to OP by saying Freddy Deeb.I was at the Rio during WSOP and Deeb noticed me taking a quick snapshot of him while he was on his cell phone but right after he was done he came over to my group to say hi. Every other pro required a semi-aggressive approach before they'd kindly give you a minute or two and some would just say they were too busy. Eveylyn Ng in particular made it obvious she didn't want attention unless you were a friend or part of the media.Freddy, however, spent a good 5-10 minutes just chatting away about this and that and he was totally genuine and friendly. Nothing fake about this dude at all.
RuntCake 0
Great article on him in Bluff.Bart Hanson and Dave Tuchman of Live at the Bike fame were super cool while I was there and I even penned an interview with him. http://lifesabluff.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=225Speaking of Kenna James he even found it and replied! Hows that for personable?
PMJackson21 0
Let's see:Matusow - Really nice guy, incredibly funny. Everyone is a 'nit'. In Aruba he had a hooker with him every day and was constantly drunk...His entrance into a poker room is a sight to see.Greenstein - Very quiet, very polite. Some big name players dominate the table with their personality, but he dominates it by just being Barry.Gavin Smith - Very cool guy, I can see why JC has a man crush on him. Kinda like Matusow (party guy) but not as much of a jackass. Devilfish - LOL, he was probably my favorite that I met in Aruba. He was always wandering around late at night, trying to hit on any female in sight. "Party at the Fish's room, bring a friend!". Annie Duke - She actually came off as pleasant in Aruba, and looked better then I expected. Very flirtacious with my friend...This year at the WSOP she looked horrid though.Freddy Deeb - Seems nice enough, pretty quiet away from the tables. I was happy for him in Aruba because he had made so many FTs w/ out winning, and when I told him that, he seemed genuinely grateful and agreed. He did knock me out though, so obv he can GIFAFI.Russ Hamilton - He's very rich. Has sort of an arrogant demeanor, but seems like a nice guy.Antonio - Like I've said before, he's a pretty cool...but the type of guy, that if he was your friend, you would have to tell him to STFU once in awhile to make suire he didn't take himself too seriously. In Aruba we had some beers together, and then played with him at Bay 101 2k event last year. He was kind of being a prick then to another player (and to the girl giving him a massage), but w/e.Cliff Josephy - Owns my poker soul. And obv an incredibly nice guy. :-)John Phan - Very friendly/talkative at the tables, I can see why so many people are good friends with him. He plays every pot, lol.Brent Carter - Super nice guy, but once he realized I would talk to him, wouldn't shut up. Men - Complained and complained about how the WPT ignores him, and maybe if he acted like Hellmuth he would get more publicity. I guess he was mad about them not showing all of his exit interview at the Bay 101 a few years back.Tex Barch - Seems like a genuinely nice guy, but then again, when you hit a 5 outer on someone to knock them out of the WSOP ME, you tend to be gracious.Scotty Nyguen - LOL, Scotty is great. In Aruba, he always had a beer in his hand, and always had his incredibly hot gf with him. My buddy and he were at the sushi bar together, and my friend asked him how he was doing. Scotty stopped and put his arm around him, "I'm Scotty Nyguen baby, I'm always doing good!". Ha.Johan Storakers - Very nice guy, even though he was very sick all week in Aruba. Also has an incredibly hot gf.Pokerh0 - Suuuuuper nice guy. Calls everyone 'champ'. The kind of guy you could hang out with anytime and have fun. h0 owns, that is all.SDouble/ JOsh Schlein - A bit strange at times, and a bit arrogant, but he was nice enough to me. Team SMD obv owns as well.Devin Porter/ Tranquil Chaos - Very nice guy...If I had a sister, I wouldn't mind if she dated him...That polite/friendly.Hoyt Corkins - in my limited experience, he seems like a nice guy. I have friends that spent more time with him (Hoyt likes to smoke), and say he is great.Hellmuth - http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-foru...showtopic=40656That's all I can think of now.... Shizzmoney 0
Juanda is kind of 'not there' if you know what I meanEverytime I look at the guy he seems like he's working on 72 hour bender of no sleep and 2 jugs of coffee.Matusow: Really nice guy, incredibly funny. Everyone is a 'nit'. In Aruba he had a hooker with him every day and was constantly drunk...His entrance into a poker room is a sight to see.I remember watching his interview for the 2004 WSOP (the epidsode where he loses the big hand to Raymer and his AK gets cracked by AQ) with my friends. Mike was entailing his poker life and how crazy it was, and that he won all this money after winning a few bracelets but lost it because he lived a crazy lifestyle, spending it all on, "drugs, sports betting, and strippers". I immediately quipped to some of my friends, "Hey, I haven't been to a strip club in a while, but do they now offer full service?" and we had a good laugh because we all figured he was the kind of guy to get "strippers". Nothing wrong with it though if you gots the dough for the hoes. But he'd seem like the life of the party and a good guy.I don't think I'd get a picture/autograph with anyone except for maybe Doyle because of the fact I admire him so much and he is the patriarch of the game I love. I kind of scoff at how some treat poker players with celebrity, and how some think they are on par with those in sports and movies just because they chase flushes and straights like the rest of us. If anything, I just like to shake their hand especially if I admire they way they play. I have however met some pros and all of the ones I have met are friendly and amicable. At Foxwoods this weekend, I shook hands with Fabrice Soulier, The Grinder, and Paul Darden and all seemed guinine and appreciative of the fact of how they play. At the WSOP this year, I had the opportunity to meet Daniel for 5 minutes and he was a riot, optioning to give him pound as I told him that, "I don't want to shake your hand, I read your blog and I don't want to get sick too!". Also met E-Dog at the table adjacent to me, we talked NFL mostly and handicapping the season as I heard (like me) that's he's a big sports bettor. PMJackson: Hellmuth: http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-foru...showtopic=40656 This, to date, is the most entertaining topic on this forum, IMO. Filled with high comedy. PMJackson21 0
Actually, I've got to correct myself. You've probably met more pros than PMJackson.Ha, I'm sure he has and for the most part, on a much deeper level. Those are just people I've played with, and Aruba is unique in comparison to a normal tournament venue, so you get to know them a bit better then you would at the WSOP for example.I've never approached anyone actually and introduced myself, I'd feel silly and don't like to bother people. My friend on the other hand will go up to anyone, so I got dragged along a lot. Never had my picture taken with a player, and never would really want to. He hooked up the golf with Hellmuth though by being that way, so I can't complain. :-)Correction however, I _did_ approach Bax away from the tables, just because I had played so much with him online and exchanged emails etc. That worked out for the best though too. :-)

gatortom64 1
Been going to Vegas since 1987. Have met several poker players before the "boom". Doyle, Chip Reese, Caro, Benny Binion (He said "Don't call me mister!!!), lots of old schoolers. Got knocked out of a tourney by Men the Master. PLayed with Johnny Donaldson (1st season WPT FT player). Most are great folks, but there are a$$holes everywhere!!!

I guess that's natural. If I had a few major titles and several million in my pocket, me ego would be huge. I'm sure most people's egos would be, you would just have to control it a bit and still be nice.Ha, I'm sure he has and for the most part, on a much deeper level. Those are just people I've played with, and Aruba is unique in comparison to a normal tournament venue, so you get to know them a bit better then you would at the WSOP for example.I've never approached anyone actually and introduced myself, I'd feel silly and don't like to bother people. I don't mind bothering the pros that much if I want a picture or something. I was a huge fan boy when DN was in Toronto promoting the new FCP poker site. When I was at the WSOP, I went up to Doyle to ask for a picture before we started playing the same tournament. I also got pictures with Matusow and Ferguson. By the time that I was at the WPT this year, it all felt pretty normal seeing all these TV pros around that I didn't bother going up to them for a picture or autograph. I just figured that will be many an opportunity in the future for me to see them again. I guess PrtyPSux counts as a pro. He's a pretty nice guy too.
PrtyPSux 0
I dont know as many of them as Steve and Pat but Ive played with a bunch and talked to most, I have some stories about a few. A lot of these people I dont consider big pro's but you'd recognize them from TV for sure.John Gale = SUPER nice.Billy Gazes is the same, very very nice guy.Devil fish is one of my fav's too, dude is hilarious. I played with him and Imsolucky to my right for like 2 hrs in the wsop, so we were talking the whole time. He gave us his card for his online site "Devil Fish Poker" ...he clearly had NO CLUE about online poker, just knew it was a UB skin. When I asked him if it gave Rake back he says "I dont know, it does the same things as Ultimate Bet, except it has a little man on the door that welcomes you in...it's really cool" ...For some reason I found that hilarious. Then the subject came up about being mugged came up and he told this story about a cab driver in barcelona trying to rob him, and then he started acting out the fight throwing jabs and hooks around and showing us his brass knuckle type rings that he used to punch the driver...He was an intense dude, I thought he was hilarious though.. Also, as far as poker goes, he reads people like you have no idea.Annie Duke seemed like she'd be a bi.tch, but I agree with pat, she was surprisingly nice... As loosh and I were waiting for valet outside of the rio she asked loosh about making the FT and wished him luck and stuff...obviously something she didn't have to do so it made her seem nice. She still annoys me though.I GavinDannenman although I dont consider him a pro, is one of the few that is a genuinely nice person, doesn't seem all that fake as many other of the poker "celebs" do.One day I was with Steve at commerce and victor ramdin was there, he seemed like an *** but maybe he was just drunk. I played with him in Niagara and he was really nice, he was to my right and the whole table was stalling to end the day, so we were just talking the whole time. Told me about how much Jamie Gold sucked in HSP.Kenna James is by far the coolest guy I've played with. You can tell this guy loves what he does. The second he sat down he streched out his hand and introduced himself to the ones near him, and started joking around with everyone right away. I can definately see how his personality helps his game, as he just totally stomped on the table and everyone he busted left with a smile. I was to his immediate left and I called nearly every raise he made, he'd joke around during the whole hand trying to play mind games, very tough player. Ordered me rum and coke the whole time I was at the table .Chris Gregorian is hilarious, I can see how some people might find him annoying though... he speaks in 3rd person, berrates dealers, and threatens them by saying "You want to mess with Armenian I'll make you dance the Armenian dance, I shoot (mimicking machine gun), you dance around like a little girl". If you can get passed that though you'll have a fun time at the table. Marcel Luske just came up to me (and I think Bizzle, or Mike/nakedcowboy, i don't remember who) and just randomly told us a poker story and then left. Seemed like a cool guy. Humberto Brenes overheard me speaking spanish on the phone and was imediately friendly during the N.O. event. ummm... JC tran is nice, Tom Mcevoy was nice to me but I can see him being "the annoyed old man" type with some. Seif is nice but has an unreal temper, talks **** and has a huge Ego. Scott Fischman was really nice, Gank is really nice and hilarious. Shannon Shorr is vv nice, and extremely sick. Scott Clements AKA BigRiskky is great and has a bracelet and just won the CPO, he's gotten absolutely no ego from it. I agree with Pat about Devin Porter. Hes also way too sick at poker.Sheiky is an assh0le but he was nice to me because I found his ego funny and laughed at his retardedly cocky jokes. I know this thread is about friendly players but there are some Aholes I want to mention :Jean Robert Bellande, is a douchebag and he's TERRIBLE from what I saw, I've heard the same about his game from other people. In one occasion, he has like 8bb's left at the 100/200 level and he makes it 400 UTG, a guy calls from MP, button shoves like 1800 total Bellande thinks for like a minute and mucks leaving himself 6 bb's or so...other dude OBVIOUSLY has to call based on pot odds and flips over a small pair, Bellande freaks out because the donkey folded 77 and the pusher had AK. He then starts berrating the guy who played AK pretty much the only way you can play AK in that spot, he says "Oh, so thats how you play? You're gonna go broke quick playing like that, just moving in when UTG raises like this. But hey, it worked out, good for you".....What a prick....Sam Grizzle...LOOOOOOOL..... that dude is the most bitter person I've ever seen, and I love it. He's a total di.ckhead and is just 100% pissed off at life. He literally grabbed the muck and threw it at a dude because he had AA to grizzles QQ deep in a bellagio 1k, walks away muttering "take the whole, fcking deck, its been slapping you in the fcking face all night"...I laughed so hard.Eskimo clark has to be # 1 ranked as shadiest known poker player ever. That broke toothless idiot James Souza our whatever the fck (dude that was at thunder keller's FT) is a sorry bum. I was playing a 200 sit n go to kill time before the 1k bellagio started and he sat to my left, He went off on the dealer about how he makes in one day what she makes in one year to which I said "and you're in a $200 sattelite?" he then got on my case about how much of an idiot I was and how well he could read me and all the "idiot internet kids who think they got game, but they have no clue when they mess with him" when it got 5 handed he raised someone called and I rr'd him all in with 83 off and when they folded, I showed and laughed "good read"....He got so pissed. Then I got him to call off his stack twice drawing to 3 outs and he got there both times, he literally jumped out of his seat celebrating. I just laughed at the fact he was all excited about a $200 sit n go. The redhead kid that cried during the 05 wsop, is one of the most annoying people I've ever played with. I'm glad I was across the table from him and I couldn't hear alot of the sht he talked all night, i would have lost it.Anyway, those are the ones I can recall playing with. As far as I see it, pros are nice but a lot of them are fake because they HAVE to be nice, they've trained themselves to have a poker personality in order to "keep the fish around", many of them seem to only take people seriously once they have accomplishments. They'll introduce themselves to you very nicely once and not remember you 3 hrs later, its just because they meet so many people. Out of all of them, I'd say the younger or less known successful players are the most "real" either they have an ego or they dont and you can usually tell right away. Most pros, regardless of how nice they seem, have a major ego and can be quite condescending at the table.
