Don't know if this has been posted already, but can someone explain how this is different from online poker?Wireless Texas Hold'em Poker Coming to CasinosHarrah's Brand Moves With the FutureProgressive Gaming International Corporation (PGIC) is set to help casinos make more money than ever before with the introduction of a new way to play Texas hold’em poker. Using the World Series of Poker “Peer to Peer” Texas hold’em game, players will be able to play poker on wired or wireless devices away from the traditional poker table.Players will play poker on a secure intranet server managed from within casinos that have the legal jurisdiction to offer this type of service. This unique service will allow players to play poker in restaurants, clubs, and possibly even their rooms. This futuristic solution not only benefits players by giving them greater access to the tables, but also helps casinos make use of unused gaming space.According to Harrah’s senior vice president of gaming Ken Weil, this product is a perfect fit for casinos around the globe.“We are please to partner again with PGIC in leveraging the most powerful brand in poker worldwide, the World Series of Poker. Many regulated operators do not have poker rooms. The World Series of Poker “Peer to Peer” Texas hold’em gaming system provides operators with the ability to offer their patrons the opportunity to participate in exciting Texas hold’em poker game competitions that capture the excitement of an authentic WSOP experience,” he said in a recent press release.PGIC President and CEO Russ McMeeking sees a profitable future ahead for his company.“We believe that the ‘Peer to Peer’ system, both the wired and/or wireless versions, has a potential global marketplace of over 5,000 legalized gaming venues. We are delighted and honored to partner on this very exciting global initiative, which is intended to leverage our extensive acquisition and development investments in secure thin-client wired and wireless server-based technology.PGIC will showcase its new product in the upcoming global gaming show taking place in November in Las Vegas.http://cardplayer.com/poker_news/article/3364

i smelt something like this coming.it looks like it only takes place inside the casino/hotel.i can only imagine what's next.
I imagine a wireless form of poker that can be played over the internet. Through laptops, personal PC's, desktops, etc etc... In the comfort of their own home, even! You won't have to play at the casinos to play poker.. You can jump in a game, play, leave any time you want... It'll be as convenient as can be, and will pave the way for the future!Oh, wait..

there... that is why they can offer it... it isnt breaking any laws because it isnt over public wire... it is a private intranet self contained within private property.

This had to have been the best 4-post combo I've ever seen, I actually laughed out loud reading this. Which was odd because I was in the library and I'd never would've expected to laugh out lound reading forum posts.

Of course. Since it's run through casinos, the gov't gets a cut. This will happen by Christmas.By Easter, the definition of INTRANET will mean, "Anyone within 1,500 miles of X casino." Wait and see.
Well an intranet can span the globe... so uhhh... yeah. Intranet just means it's private. Yay monopoly! I'm the dog.

Do I understand this correctly? I can now fly to Vegas, pay for a room in a casino, and sit in front of a computer playing poker against people who are also in rooms in the casino? Pokerstars is screwed now. This cant possibly fail. <sw>

Pokerstars might not be screwed, but US players may have a legal alternative soon. The casinos could quite easily get laws passed to make it legal nationwide. The government gets their cut, the casinos get their cut (at a lower cost than B&M), I see it happening.

The more I think about this, the more I think, "well, OK, so at least now Americans will collect taxes from this."I bet this happens lickety-split. Seriously.
