implied tilt odds

Recommended Posts

Well, no one is posting today, so I thought Id give this a shot. I read something of Phil Gordons which I thought was utterly brilliant, in a downe's syndrome sort of way. Its called implied tilt odds..Have you ever played 3-6 at a casino and found that one player with a mound of chips who is on his A game, playing perfectly because nothing is going wrong for him? Hes pretty tight too, and you cant seem to get him to reliquinish any of his chips...What do you do?You try to draw out for every gutshot straight you can on him, ESPECIALLY when its not a winning play in the long run...I know I know, pretty dumb stuff right? This is a cardinal sin among poker players, but through the genious of phil gorden I have begun to understand the darkside of the poker-jedi mindset.Implied Tilt OddsWhen you hit one of these miraculous draws on your opponent, continue to gloat and tell him how you cant believe he called you on the river, wasnt it obvious what you had? Jesus, how silly. The player should then go ape shit and throw his chips at you in order to even the score, at which point you revert to your normal, tight agressive style and capitalize on his now horrible play.

I'll do something like this if I have enough of a bankroll for the game to absorb some losses first. I'll chase draws I don't have the odds to chase until I hit one, then all the players at the table will start talking about how much I suck. After this I'm in the best situation possible, ANY draw that hits provides me with a huge bluffing opportunity as they will assume I was chasing it, and when I have a made hand and call to the end, if the draw doesn't hit they will move in on me since i didn't "hit". Doesn't work all the time, but it's goldmine when it does.

Implied tilt odds is a JOKE.Yes, I mean that it's a bad idea, unless you're playing for fun. I also mean the the original concept was created for humourous purposes. It's a satire of the way some players justify terrible plays with high-concept ideas terms.Seriously.Implied Tilt Odds (and the converse, Reverse Implied Tilt Odds) are not real poker ideas. If I make a fishy call, the ITO' justifies it - because I am a perfect player.Understand? Now take this concept a step further. If you make a bad play, don't look for excuses like "semi-bluffing", "pot odds", "implied pot odds", or any of that crap. These are all useful concepts, but don't justify bad play. They are only useful for players who have the maturity to accept when they have made a bad play.
